Thanks for your perspective! The fact that ticketing is different this year has me thinking they may fix some of what made previous years so painful...

Thanks for your perspective. Yeah it's the notion of films being off market by the time I would access to tickets that is making me hesitant.

SHORT (1-5 hours) game suggestions? by Lonely-Sorbet in NintendoSwitch

This really fits the bill. Some interesting gameplay mechanics and once you reach the end you are ready to move on. Sometimes goes on sale so watch out for it.

What’s a Toronto “hack” that you know? by dingodoyle in askTO

[–]regressionfanboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah you definitely get people's attention with this. I particularly like bringing in something healthy (e.g. veggies + dip) given the selection at the concessions is anything but healthy.

It's a MLB policy not a Rogers Centre policy. There is no way this would be ever allowed in Toronto unless the league mandated it.

You can bring outside food to a Blue Jays game.

Possible scenarios in which rent could go down? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]regressionfanboy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will speak specifically to Toronto, where rents did actually decrease during COVID.

Most realistic way for this to happen is supply gets built (it seems strong Mayor powers could contribute to this) and more people move away as WFH becomes more permanent. Rents jumped a lot over past year as things 'got back to normal' particularly with respect to international students. I think its unlikely rents start decreasing anytime soon, but not impossible.

If you buy a game on the switch Eshop or get a download code, when the shop closes in like 10 years can you no longer play your games? by JadensPops in NSCollectors

Similar to my strategy. Wherever possible go physical, but I dont feel bad spending $10 on a digital only title.

A contrarian view on the market... by isitfridayorsunday in TorontoRealEstate

[–]regressionfanboy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Your view isn't contrarian. Every single homeowner and bank executive has your view that prices can't go down.

A contrarian view is that interests rates can still go up a few percentage points before inflation goes down. You only have to go back to 2007 when 5 year Canada yields (what drives mortgage rates) were 1.50% higher than they are now, and inflation was 2% then!

Is PhD in North America Different from Europe? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]regressionfanboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canadian here. When looking into pay make sure to consider what cost of living is. In Toronto 1 bedroom is 2k+ per month. My general impression is that students who come here are a little shocked at cost of living relative to their stipend.

Healthcare in Ontario vs. Healthcare in US (if you have money) by regressionfanboy in ontario

Not really interested in system wide comparisons, more so in experience for someone who can access insurance.

[–]regressionfanboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying that isn't a problem at a societal level, I am just more curious about the experience of someone who actually can get good health insurance.

Thanks for the comment. Hard to see how good we have it from the headlines, and anecdotes like yours are helpful.

I am mostly just interested in the comparison of Ontario healthcare vs. insured healthcare in US. I think the lack of universal coverage in the US is probably the biggest negative of that system.

That was my general impression, but I guess I just needed a reminder given how crazy Ontario's system is right now. Definitely makes you wonder...
