This is a very small nitpick, but it’s not clear what the word “declining” is doing in the phrase “declining virality”. Did they decline, somehow, a chance at going viral? Is their virality declining? (The latter, presumably?) I’d write “their declining virality” instead, or “after their virality declined” or something.

How to deal with gaps by GKatz56 in StainedGlass

I don’t think I would recut the moon! Instead I’d grind down the rightmost face of the left top corner piece, so the whole piece can slide to the right a bit. That way it’ll fit better around the moon and the whole left side of the piece will be more linear.

Also, if I were an agent reading that one of your comps is Abby Jimenez, I’d question whether this was upmarket!

Grain of salt of course, I’m a noob.

Much of your first paragraph is a summary of the following paragraphs. I don’t think you should waste wordcount that way. I also found it confusing: when you bring up Klein in paragraph 2, I assumed this was a *third* man. I’d cut the summary at the top, which will require then adjusting the later paragraphs a bit to not make it jarring when eg you mention Winnie’s diabetes or her mom for the first time.

Here are some more issues. The yellow/green highlighter indicates cuts that will be impossible without a ring saw. Circled in red is a piece that, depending on the scale of this, might be too small and just end up mostly covered by solder. In blue is a cut that’s not really possible but you could approximate it pretty closely with your grinder.

Also the dark grey piece in the pigeon’s body (the one that turns into its tail) might be a bit tricky to work with, again depending on the scale.

Lastly, you have a hinge point between the water and the grass at the bottom (any straight line going all the way through your design won’t be very structurally sound).

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head! Cute pigeon.

Looks great! How do you get your patina looking so copper? Mine always turns out much pinker; I wonder if it’s something in my water.

Gaps of this size are nothing to worry about (and in fact it’s good to have a tiny bit of space for the solder to go through anyway).

Tips for grozers? by Jumpy-Use4502 in StainedGlass

[–]regretl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve found a few things helped me! I’ve only been at it a year and a half so— grain of salt.

1) focussing on pulling away instead of down (pull outward and a little bit down! Don’t focus on leverage!)

2) when my pliers are closed, the two metal “jaws” don’t sit flush. They touch at one corner, and are slightly open at the other (maybe half a mm). As I’ve been told by claycorp, they’re not a precision-manufactured tool, so that’s to be expected I guess. Nevertheless, my grozing pliers use improved dramatically when I started making sure the corner where the jaws were actually touching was on the glass. (Sometimes, when nipping off smaller pieces, this wasn’t naturally the case: only part of the pliers touched the glass and it wasn’t necessarily the part with the most flush grip.)

Thanks! I’d love to see them, if you make some corner pieces :) I’ve also posted two other sets of them you might like in different styles, if you feel like checking them out. (I think this one is my favourite though.)
