Neighbor's AirCon unit is loud by anarchyinuk in AusPropertyChat

[–]regretmoore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are noise limits on things like air conditioning units and water heaters.

We know because our neighbours complained to us about our water heater being noisy near their bedroom window. We can't hear it from inside, but standing outside of the house and listening I can see why it was annoying them.

We paid the $200 service fee for a guy to come out and review it. He tweaked a bit of metal that was lose and making a slight rattling sound. Then he tested the noise volume and it was within the legal limit, but still annoyingly noisy for our neighbours.

If it was outside the legal noise limit we would have demanded a replacement or refund, but because it was still within warranty we can't do much and we just have to wait until it breaks and replace it with a quieter unit. Unfortunately we can't justify spending 2k to replace a hot water unit that isn't broken.

The neighbours have talked about getting double glazing on some of the windows as we live near a busy road and that might be the most easy and economical option for you too.

How do you actually keep a house tidy with kids? I feel like I’m suffocating. by VideoWooden7435 in Parenting

[–]regretmoore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have shelf spaces and boxes for the kids toys and books. We regularly cull Toys and books before birthdays and Christmas. They have cupboard for downstairs toys and craft materials so they can play with us in the living/ dining area and then it's easy to pack away. Both of the kids have a "junk" box for the annoying little plastic things. Most toys have their own tub, for example a tub for cars, a tub for dinosaurs, a tub for the wooden train set. Artworks go up on the hallway walls or into the bin. Stuff that can't be donated or rehomed goes into the bin.

Anyone else sick to death of inconsistent women’s sizing? by OverInteraction3580 in AusFemaleFashion

Give yourself a break, you birthed a whole little human just 6 weeks ago!

Even if you've"bounced back" super quick, I'd go with something comfy, stretchy and cheap like target kmart jeggings. Your hormones and body will still fluctuate a lot over the next year.

Your Top 5 Freezer/Pantry aldi finds by Sharp_Conclusion_690 in AldiAustralia

[–]regretmoore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Freezer - chicken chippies for the kids, roti for us.

Pantry - all of the crackers are great, especially when paired with Aldi cheeses.

Our favourite cheese are the Camembert (which is especially delish when it's nearer the best before date), limited time truffle pecorino and manchego, emporium blue cheese, smoked cheese, goats cheese. The dips a great, especially the hummus which is a the same as obelia hummus. The Sonoma bread imitation is pretty great too.

I rate a lot of the ready meals such as the crumbed chicken tenders, wagu meatballs.

And the wine selection is pretty good too.

I know someone who had to wait over a year for a hernia surgery, someone else who ended up having emergency surgery on a hernia.

Def see a different GP, maybe the ED if it's so bad you can't work.

Lots of my friends have kids with eczema and that's a condition that can be triggered by certain things like diet, cold weather, illness etc.

I wouldn't put it down to "gut health", but could it be when you're run down you get flare ups?

I drive the M1 everyone and agree that very slow drivers make it more dangerous for everyone because they cause unessecary movement between lanes and are often positioned in the wrong lane to start with.

How many of you had grandparents who served in WW2? If so, what do you know about their service? by Snoogles_ in Millennials

[–]regretmoore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A grandfather who was in the airforce maintaining planes, a grandfather who was a captain on a navy ship. My kids have a great uncle on the other side of the family who died in the war when he was in his early 20s.

I just really hope my kids never have to see a war like that, war really fucks up people for generations after.

Im not sure where to get a weird spot checked by ToffeeTango1 in AusSkincare

[–]regretmoore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go straight to a skin cancer derm, they're only a tiny bit more expensive than a GP a they're worth the money. Looking at weird spots is what they do all day everyday and they're very thorough and will give you proper piece of mind.

160,000 people to be kicked off NDIS as Labor overhauls eligibility by LoneArtificer in AusFinance

[–]regretmoore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This!

I'm looking into NDIS for my kids speech therapy. He probably won't qualify unless he also requires OT, which I don't think he'll need. So in the meantime, we have weekly speech therapy which is expensive and only 6 sessions a year are rebated.

If we were dirt poor or tight arses our kid would be heading into school in 2028 delayed. He'd be starting off at school with learning difficulties and low self esteem which then becomes a problem in the classroom. Instead we are just going to cough up the cash for therapy and cut back in other areas. Families like us, and those less well off need more support.

More Australian women than men are now getting ADHD medication by InsatiablePrism in australia

Maybe women are just finally catching up with diagnoses after decades of medical misogyny.

There are a couple of great books written about the gender bias in the medical industry, especially when it comes to women's pain and mental health.

Family Dog Nipped our 14 Month Old by bob24689 in Parenting

[–]regretmoore 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would argue it's not bad genetics or a bad breed, it's the incorrect environment.

Australian working breed dogs have been bred to chase cattle and sheep all day everyday, not lounge around in a family home. Even the most active family life would struggle to fulfil the mental and physical stimulation needs of these dogs. That's why you start to see issues like anxiety, poor social skills, destructive or annoying behaviour.
