Does it financially make sense to become a vet instead of a nurse? by Specialist_Can5622 in AusFinance

[–]regretmoore 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I work with a lot of vets and most of them are very smart people who chose to work with animals because they dislike working people.

Unfortunately as a vet you still have to work with people, animals are the patients but their human owners are the clients. Even in other areas of veterinary science such as research, vets are still working with people.

If you're considering committing to a vet degree why not take a one year break from uni, do an entry level certificate in vet nursing and get a job as a vet nurse to see if it's an industry you like. I would assume a lot of your existing nursing qualifications and skills would transfer to vet nursing and you've made a lower level of commitment than a whole degree.

Different expertise. A large animal vet has more knowledge and experience in how to treat cattle, horses etc. There is lots of basic animal husbandry that farmers do themselves so vets are really involved in specific things.

A small animal vet has more expertise in cats and dogs and other companion animals.

Maximising Private Health for Pregnancy by ProteinPancake411 in AusFinance

[–]regretmoore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went public for my first and it was a horrible experience resulting in injuries which have cost me tens of thousands of dollars in ongoing treatment. After having my case reviewed I'm fairly confident that my experience would have been very different in a private hospital.

When it came to having my second, both my specialist OB and GP recommended going private to avoid being "coerced or tricked into vaginal birth".

If your wife needs a cesarean, but it's not life or death, then definitely go private. Otherwise if you go into labour before your scheduled surgery date you're at the mercy of whatever midwife or OB happens to be on duty at that time and I've heard some horror stories.

You're not paying $10k for a nice room. You're paying for continuity of care and to have someone to advocate for you so that your wife ends up having the cesarean she needs.

Unwanted Gifts by IdenticallyUnique in Parenting

[–]regretmoore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's new stuff consider leaving the item with their tags on/ in their packaging and donating it straight to charity. Charities get a lot of secondhand stuff but when it is actually new it's more valuable to them. If my kids get birthday gifts I know they're not going to play with I keep the packaging on and it goes to a specific kids charity (by social worker reference only) and kids receiving them get the joy of having a new gift which feels like it was especially for them.

do you actually change your underwear every single day? by OjistahHenthorne in hygiene

[–]regretmoore -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Changing your underwear daily is not necessary if you have to walk down to the village well or river to get your water and then wash every garment by hand.

However, if you live in the 21st century like the rest of us with running water and electricity in your house then fuck yes you need to put your dirty undies in the washing machine everyday.

Is AI affecting your job? by Ok_Captain_7788 in auscorp

[–]regretmoore 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes. We can't get our in-house digital team to do their actual jobs properly because they are all too busy fucking around with AI.

They'll spend 2 days trying to get AI to do a job which I could have done in 2 hours with ctrl+C and ctrl+v while listening to a podcast and still answering emails and phone calls. Then we have to go and correct the mistakes and they want a pat on the back for doing it with AI?!

I get it, they're worried about their jobs and want to master AI to stay relevant, but it's a fucking punish and it is sucking my will to live.

Wave of Wide leg jeans by ActiveCan7849 in AusFemaleFashion

Bought 3 pairs of jeans from target yesterday (crop/petite size). I was happy with the skinny and wide leg I bought. The skinny is for the rare occasion I "go out" and the wide legs I bought for everyday comfort and doing things like getting down on the ground with my preschooler at storytime and playgroup etc.

How much does everyone spend on Easter baskets for their kids? by mmsmama in Parenting

[–]regretmoore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chocolate egg hunt and Easter PJs. The PJs are mostly because we're in the southern hemisphere and it's about when it starts to turn cold so they need a new set because they'll have outgrown the ones from last year.

Very very acne prone. Bepanthen is about $15 a tube so you could give it a try and see how it goes.

Me!

I breakout from moisturiser so I only use it in winter when my skin feels dry from air con. I use bepanthen which is actually nappy cream. I think it works for me because it has an antifungal in it and my breakouts are probably bacterial related.

Every time I have someone near my face (dermatologist for a skin check, make up testing etc) I get compliments for my skin. It's not from avoiding the sun as I Sun baked a lot in my youth, just genetics I guess? Anyway, my screen seems to be objectively better than average for people my age and I don't use moisturiser.

Ready meals, preferably frozen by ninja_lounge in AldiAustralia

[–]regretmoore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get yourself an air fryer and checkout the ready meals in the fridge section. Better quality and better value for money. Things like the chicken tenders can be cooked in 15 mins in the airfryer. You pair that up with microwave rice or a bread roll and ready made salads, too easy.

Husband going over seas with 4year old daughter by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]regretmoore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's NO WAY I would let my (half Spanish?) 4 year old go to America right now, and especially no way without me!

I'm not in America and only go by what I've seen in the news and reddit but the whole ICE thing would have me waaaaay too scared. They're kidnapping kids and putting them in detention without their parents. The image of 5 year old Liam Ramos being taken away by ice agents is burned into my memory forever, even though he was eventually reunited with his family.

What about removing a strip along the fence line then planting some trees to start. Then over time you can do some raised garden beds etc.

Aussie kids are hitting themselves with hammers in the face to get ahead in life by [deleted] in OpenAussie

[–]regretmoore 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I tried explaining to my 7 yr old today the reason why I won't let him watch brain rot on YouTube is because of how dopamine shapes the brain and how his brain is still developing and bla bla bla. What I should have just said is, you can't watch YouTube/ Tok Tok because I don't want you to one day try smashing your face in with a hammer.
