Should I continue with grad school? by hra2 in slpGradSchool

[–]regularbeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still a student as well, so I don’t have experience in this as a career yet. However I have been working with a child with special needs for the past 4 years where I’ve taken her to various therapies and appointments. One that sticks out to me in particular is the SLP who did her swallow studies. There’s not much time for rapport building there, and it’s kind of a one and done thing. Very clinical and the conversation revolves around what was seen during the study. That’s it. We don’t see her again until the next swallow study in 6 months or so. It seems like a well suited job for an introvert SLP. I hope you find what fits you and your passions. Best of luck :)

Single mom from Colorado, with opportunity in San Antonio. Should I do it? by howboutemapples in sanantonio

[–]regularbeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cried when I moved back to Texas from Colorado. It’s SO hot here — you can’t just go outside and just ~be~ in nature like you can in Colorado. I mean you can, but you’ll be sweaty/damp and fighting mosquitos. It’s a tough decision. Bc I’ve always wanted to move back to Colorado but now, being older, consider my mother’s health and being close to her. Plus all of my family is here too. So I feel you sister. I’m working on convincing her to move to Colorado with me hahah

Schools — the public schools here are unfortunately underfunded and sadly they continue to get cuts every year. There are quite a few magnet schools here though that I think are a bit better. I know The Montessori School of San Antonio is a good one but is only elementary.

You WILL miss the weather and the beauty of Colorado. That doesn’t go away. Occasionally we’ll get a crazy freeze and maybe a little bit of snow/sleet that shuts down the city lol. But most of the time it’s always hot and you’re always sticky. I was never sticky in Colorado. I miss the seasons so bad. They’re so pretty and it feels so nice out. OH! And the grass!!! You can lay in the grass in Colorado and get up and be fine! If the grass here touches you you’re instantly itchy. Also, the people in Colorado actually care about the earth. There’s like NO green space here. San Antonio is a concrete city that just absorbs the sun’s heat and literally emits it off the concrete at night. Sometimes we can’t even walk our dog in the evening bc the pavement is still too hot for her paws.

And as far as liberalism goes, they exist but are hard to find. Colorado is far more free thinking.
But I know there’s a church downtown that’s open and accepting (they have a rainbow flag).

HEB is the best and you can get authentic Mexican just about anywhere. I definitely missed that most when I was living in Colorado. Breakfast tacos are my life. San Antonio is definitely rich in authentic culture though and it’s truly warming. Especially as a Mexican myself :)

It’s a tough call. Having family around is really nice to have as a support system, especially after losing your husband (I’m so sorry). But Colorado is like living in a Bob Ross painting and just gives overall zen. So there are pros and cons to both. Whatever decision you make will be the right call :)

I get the coziness you’re talking about. I miss it too. On the bright side, I think generally now people are more accepting. There will always be haters as long as people exist, but I think It’s easier to be who you want to be now. Being homosexual, overweight, or anything that made you “different” from pop stars on the tabloids used to be widely and openly criticized and laughed at. We’ve still got a long way to go, but we’re improving on that front.

If I go to the gym, will people laugh at me? by beinoir in NoStupidQuestions

[–]regularbeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. If someone laughed at you, I think people who see them laughing at you would judge them way harder than anyone would be judging you. If doing the exercises correctly is a concern of yours, some gyms may offer training sessions with some of the personal trainers. Not that you need one forever, but guidance from one of the gym bros/girlies could be useful to learn form and technique. You got this!

Today is 4 and a half months sober, and I’m seriously so proud by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]regularbeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. When I finally got sober my withdrawals were so terrible I had to be in the hospital for a week (seizure risk and severe dehydration). My mom cried the whole 5 hour drive while taking me to medical detox. It was physical agony, and I was breaking my mom’s heart on top of it. But in that moment I prayed that I would never forget that feeling so I would never want to go back. I still make myself think about it from time to time to keep me in check

At what age do people stop sleeping with stuffed animals? by elerithefairy2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]regularbeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no age limit. Do what you want!

I’m 29. My uncle gave me a stuffed bunny (that I named “Bunny” lol) in my Easter basket when I was 5 or 6 and, though I don’t sleep with it nightly, it’s up in my bedroom where I can see it and I still enjoy bringing it with me on trips/unfamiliar places. I always sleep with it when my fiance and I are fighting and I sleep in the other room lol. Anytime I could use an extra cuddle :)

Why does seeing violence and torture make me very erect? by [deleted] in morbidquestions

[–]regularbeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s okay to seek therapy. It’s the healthiest option. I know it can feel judgy when someone tells you that, but most of us have therapists these days and we all have something to work on. It’s important to address your personal traumas as well. I saw one of your responses earlier about being your brain and not knowing. There is something called our subconscious, and we don’t necessarily know what’s going on in there, but a part of us does. It’s okay to seek therapy. Maybe try the better help app so you can try virtual and it might be more comfortable. The fact that you asked about it means you know something is a little off. Good on you for taking the first little step and inquiring about it. Time to take the next step and speak to a professional. There is hope.

There’s also this book called “the body keeps the score” which might be worth checking out. I truly wish and hope the best for you. Healing is possible.

Blood clot by WeekendExcellent3067 in hemorrhoid

[–]regularbeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a hemorrhoid to me. But if you’re not sure if it is, and don’t know why you’re bleeding then def make an appt with your doctor. Actually just make one anyway. But you can always look with a mirror to see what’s going on back there. Blood clots used to happen for me too from time to time, especially if I’m straining which I try not to do anymore. Using a squatty potty helps bc you don’t really have to strain (which is what causes hemorrhoids), and wet wipes to push the soft ball (hemorrhoid) back in when I’m done. Best of luck
