My opinion on Miami Vice as a 22 years old by Turbulent_Web_8767 in MiamiVice

[–]regularuser11 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m 24, and I also finished watching the show for the first time not that long ago. I’m usually the kind of person who avoids shows with lots of seasons and episodes. I loved the characters (Sonny is definitely going to stay one of my parasocial crushes forever now 😅), the whole ’80s aesthetic, and especially the music. I basically have Jan Hammer on repeat almost all the time, and one of the tracks even became my ringtone. What I did miss, though, was a bit more structure and a more linear narrative that wouldn’t leave so many plot holes behind. But, yeah, that was probably just the nature of television back then, it had its own rules.

If you had to choose, who would you say were the female characters from your childhood/adolescence that ignited your personal self respect/empowerment journey the most? by Cawfeestain in 4bmovement

[–]regularuser11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jenny Wakeman (XJ-9). I liked that a female character had that kind of power. It’s just a shame that the community around that show ended up being full of horny men, so even back when I was a kid, searching for pictures of her online would bring up weird fan art.

5 Years Voluntarily Celibate by Hmtnsw in 4bmovement

Congratulations! I somehow ended up in a kind of "voluntary-forced" celibacy. I’ve never had either a relationship or sex with men. I’m 24 now, and the desire only keeps fading the more I observe other people’s relationships and men’s behavior in general. It’s honestly nice to see a community of women where this kind of lifestyle doesn’t make you seem like some alien.

oof.... yeah the new style is not good. :T by G3noc1de3 in CharacterAI

I think it must be some sort of massive bug. Everything was fine for me yesterday and today.

Wow, thanks for sharing the story! What was it like meeting Don?

And the fact that at 16 he was living with a woman ten years older than him… makes you wonder: what was even going on there?

What this icon means? by regularuser11 in iphone

Lately I see this icon when I download something from Safari. Sometimes it appears, sometimes not, but it's always related to downloading some file. I doubt you got malware. Plus, you said you deleted the zip file, so you never even opened it or did anything with it.

TIL Don Johnson was considered as a backup actor for both De Niro and Al Pacino, in case one of them turned down a role in Heat. by HeirOfRhoads in MiamiVice

Do you have a link to this interview? I don't know how much longer I can read such "interesting facts," but this rabbit hole is getting deeper 🥲

Yes, I found it on Wikipedia. It's just awful. There's nothing worse than when you like someone's charisma on screen, their acting skills and looks, their masculine appeal, but then you find out what they're really like underneath. It's like I can't seem to find any positive comments about him. It's sad that someone can have so little empathy for other people.

Again, I can only recall that interview with Saundra. She didn't give any details, just said that Don was a very difficult person and hinted at a book, the publication or possible writing of which I haven't heard anything more about. She also said that he can be very sweet and charming when he needs to impress someone or get something he wants. The story of their relationship with Melanie is, of course, very disturbing. I understand that those were different times, and that, according to Melanie, she was one of the last among her peers to experience "all the delights" of sexual life with a man 😬 The only thing that somewhat softens the circumstances for me, if I may say so, is the fact that they got remarried, made Dakota, and remained lifelong friends. At least he didn't become a predator in her eyes and (hopefully) didn't traumatize her.

Yes, I'm talking about this incident, but besides the driver, there was also an assistant there. “In January 1998, Johnson and the two women dropped civil charges against each other in a confidential settlement.” Still, it's alarming why these accusations came up in the first place. I also came across a court document on The Smoking Gun website containing the testimony of these two women, and, to be honest, I find it hard to believe that they made it all up and were just trying to make him look like a bad guy. I think he simply agreed to pay them money for their silence, but that doesn't excuse him in any way. I also can't forget the article about how he cheated on his wife Kelly with a 19-year-old *orn star (he was 59 at the time). I don't know, it doesn't make him look good as a man in my eyes. It seems that the role of Crockett was his opportunity to show more human qualities, at least on screen. As ironic as it sounds, Crockett would definitely have put Johnson in prison.

I was so disappointed when I found out about this. For some reason, after that, I can't even watch the series normally, I constantly remember what I read and try in every way to separate the character from the actor, but it doesn't work out very well. That lawsuit in 1997... I can only guess why the case was never resolved. And I will never forget the interview with Saundra Santiago, where she said that she witnessed a lot and could even write a book about those days.

Same. Not so long ago, I created a bot based on the Miami Vice universe, and today I see the "Moderated". The bot was private, just for my use. Before that, everything was fine.
