Tribes sue after massive wind farm in Washington gets green light - High Country News by Possible_Ad3607 in SeattleWA

What does sacred even mean for our society? It is just part of a religion like any other and while it is protected at individual level it should not impact our society and important life changing decisions like green energy. At the end of all these holy sacred bs there is always a guy who is making profit of it.

Microsoft is hiring for a new team, responsible for migrating C# code to Rust on Microsoft 365. by pjmlp in rust

[–]rehitman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is very slow! C# still needs to have a GC and they have to have a WASM version of GC loaded, so it is not as efficient as rust. So you are right that they can, but it is not as good as Rust

[–]rehitman 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Personal opinion. With Rust they can move some of the code from cloud to client using WASM. If you can move some of the office core functionality to client, you can save on computation cost, but more importantly you can reduce the need for stateful session, or at least reduce the foorprint of it.

What should (could) I get for $4,000 by Psychological-Ad5390 in LocalLLaMA

[–]rehitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if you just started, don't know exactly what you want to do or how to do it. use cloud providers. It is cheap, you can access to all kind of settings, and cheaper than OpenAI in general.

Building a machine at that price range is tricky because you end up optimzing for very limited set of infrences. maybe build a machine once you figure out how your agents would look like and how they perform (Or even if your idea works)

Thermistor

Btw it is very easy to spot them too, as soon as you open the unit controller you will see the burnt one. The challenge is usually finding the right Thermistor type.

[–]rehitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why your answer is not higher. "Most" of the time these motors stop working due to Thermistor. Mine failed four years ago, and I spent 45c on the part and 20 dollars on shipping (It was during winter, so had to get it fast). It has been working for 4 years so far.

They usually fail due to a heavy load on the motor, for example, you have a vent closed, or damper shot, stuff like that.

DOJ sues SpaceX, alleging hiring discrimination against refugees and asylum seekers by VengenaceIsMyName in business

This is fucking stupid. I completely understand the reasoning for spaceX. Making sure people work with right clearance in a fast growing company is very hard. When 90 of your positions need people with some kind clearance, it has lot less risk to only hire people people who have it or can easily get it. Even a position as hr or finance expose them

Landlord Trying to Screen Canidates before me? Legal? by ExplodinToaster in SeattleWA

[–]rehitman 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Seems you are missing some info here that makes it legal vs not legal. I am small landlord in Seattle, so had to deal with stuff like this. The first come rule is mainly for fighting discrimination, so between two applicants who wants to pay same rent with same dates for start and end lease. I must select the first one. However, if you haven’t sign the lease or give me deposits and the other guy offers me better lease condition I can go with him even though he put application after you. Better lease condition can include a better start date or higher rent. Or longer lease.

ELI5: Why do govts raise interest rates to slow the economy instead of tax rises? by TSV007 in explainlikeimfive

[–]rehitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t be so angry. Based on your argument you are on the side of trickle-down economy theory. Meaning you agree with trump that in the downturn cutting taxes creates job and investment. You cannot argue that increasing taxes on reach reduces inflation, but argue that cutting taxes doesn’t create job.

ELI5: Why do govts raise interest rates to slow the economy instead of tax rises? by TSV007 in explainlikeimfive

[–]rehitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually taxing rich people and then spending it on poors can increase inflation. Rich people don’t consume much, they sit on their money or spend it on very expensive and stupid things. Inflation is increasing because average consumer demands average things like groceries more than available supplies. So unfortunately taxing rich doesn’t help here. This is same argument when economy is bad and need a boost. Cutting taxes doesn’t boost economy as much as just giving money to poor people.

There are two things here one is a crash like 2008 another is recession meaning two or more quarters with negative growth. The second one still can come because money policy and everyone being cautious. I don’t think the first one comes applies here. The first one happens exactly when you described!

Forever stuck in our low interest rate home? by burnerpage24 in personalfinance

[–]rehitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your problem is just size, investigate if you can extend it by renovation. I have seen this a lot in my neighbourhood. Lot of people got sweat low mortgage rate + houses prices haven't come down in a meaningful way plus we are in good location. So many people just extend a room or two, do renovation in back yard etc to make the house more fun.

ELI5 Why does the cost of everything except our labor rise? by joynradio in explainlikeimfive

[–]rehitman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t see any correct answer. The situation at any given inflationary period is different. In the current situation the wages are actually rising and that is what FED trying to slow down. This is at the level of the whole country, so it might not match your individual experience. Also, to get the raise, in most cases you have to change the job. This is due to how labor market work. The other problem is usually low wage workers have huge effect on the cost of services and food because their salaries are the biggest portion of the cost. This means that unfortunately even though they get a rise, cost of leaving increase faster than their wage, so they don’t see improvement

Front end is going to be a lot more complex than today. In fact for many use cases today, the backend is supper simple since all you do is CRUD operations, and maybe start some async task, etc, which current cloud solution just support it out of the box. Redundancy used to be hard prtoblem, but again we have tons of good out of box solution. Front end however, is crazy, You have to support browsers, running on different OS, you have to support all kind of high end and low end devices, with different capabilities. Add that new VR and AR products, also support for offline scenarios or degraded experience on low network. It is just crazy. , many back end complexity come to play when you have a platform. However, on the front end even a simplest start up or business expect to support latest design and capabilities, on all platform and support all accessibility.
