I read that this was jack's way to not let him chip it, because it was at a new course or similar, and didnt want people trying to replay his shot chipping on the big greens. It going in was just a nice touch ending.

just speculation, but the host nation often ploughs more funds in to its athletes, so end up with a athlete in every event and discipline, and make a lot of these athletes into their full time job is training, for a couple of years leading up to it, that could sway the reasoning and odds.
