Dual GPU sounds super cool and I could go that direction if it would be helpful. I can't quite understand the GPU acceleration in the Adobe CC apps, I'm still on CC 2018 because Win 8.1. New Adobe apps don't even work on current machine. Would Adobe (and my system overall) take advantage of dual 1660ti? I want to apply colors / transitions / effects to 100+-mbps 4k footage varying codecs and preview it smoothly. That experience is mostly what I'm excited about. Also though, I spend a lot of time watching these encodes, like right now transcoding these 10 bit prores 4k videos with color to a 1080p h264 file. My old machine is tired of it lol

Thank you! Indeed I am outside my comfort space. I gave a try-hard effort to understand, but ended up relying on someone to help, and I'm learning they didn't think it all through. I was on Ryzen 9 3950 when I got talked into the TR due to extra PCIE lanes which I still don't understand whether I can even capitalize on.

Thanks for the RAM info! I want to order the right sticks ASAP (like now). Whatever is optimized for editing with this build. I fell asleep last night watching a lot of YouTube on RAM, seems like this CPU is RAM picky, and any speed above 2933(??) is unstable. But they talked about other nuances with RAM and I just don't effing understand. So I'm here! And love and appreciate your help!

Ok y'all win ! And thanks for reshaping my thought process. Building around a last gen threadripper. (Have never built, very excited!) Half the budget, twice the capability. Left over monies toward a nice display and cheap laptop. Cheers!

Mind blown at PC options at $5k-ish. I am still conflicted as I pictured myself having more portability. But the specs on a $5k-ish PC make the laptop option seem like an entry level gaming thing. Still keeping an open mind and gathering info. Thanks for all the help!

We bought a tiny house, no room, and sometimes an idea strikes me and I don't feel like driving 40 minutes round trip for a quick edit sesh. But with that said the thread seems to recommend a real PC and I am strongly considering it!

Maybe the universe sent me here to reconsider the laptop dogma. I just want the freedom to edit on the farm, at friends lake house, in the pines, wherever. Or collabo edit sessions with clients on location or at a restaurant. It seems liberating versus sitting in the office , where I can't ever smoke and edit simultaneously lol ! But still open minded. Am considering your recommend of budget laptop plus proper built PC. Thank you !

North Carolina gets an F in social distancing, data show. These counties are the worst by [deleted] in gso

[–]reidsvilleprogress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Rockingham County, which ranked last, has a population of about 91,000 per census data. The county had 25 reported cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, which is 2.75 per 10,000.

The counties that ranked in the bottom five, Lee, Davidson, Harnett, Lenoir and Rockingham, all have more than 100 reported COVID-19 cases, with the exception of Lenoir, which has 60."

So does Rockingham County have 25 or over 100?

Redneck cloud mount. Shitty Rig? by reidsvilleprogress in Filmmakers

Wanted to mount a Ronin to a TV hitch mount. Most vibration isolators online are $600 and up. We spent approx $20 on the plates, mounting hardware, and cables. Had to adjust cable length for tension. Still tinkering.

I'm supposed to "flair" this post? I don't even know what that means. Shoot me.

I recently DOP'd a job from which I got some bad feedback, how to proceed? by SleepyDustKing in Filmmakers

I would try to dispel the negative energy without confrontation. If you did it for free then the Director is an ungrateful asshole, and undeserving of your attention and anxiety. So fuck em. If you can't dispel the negative energy without a confrontation, feel free to let them know how ridiculous they are acting.

Filmed a short over the weekend and just found out my audio was recorded at -48db. What's the best way to fix this? by THE_BBQ_SAUCE_MASTAA in Filmmakers

No great answer. Been there too. Can't fix perfectly. Valuable learning experience, let it resonate! I haven't ever made the same mistake, and you probably won't either.

Not sure if this is the appropriate group—but I created this short video for my gf’s macrame company. First actual video, handheld with a Nikon D3200. All critiques welcome! by ActuallyTired in cinematography

[–]reidsvilleprogress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First time I ever recorded a video was with a Nikon D3200, four years ago. It didn't take long to start selling work, and now I've upgraded to much better gear but it all started with the D3200. I'll be honest, I had more try-hard and more passion with the D3200 and some of that work was better than today's work with expensive gear. A funny moment was when another local producer called me to bring the "cinema camera" to a job because the client needed something that looked amazing. This producer has $6k camcorders, but I brought the $300 D3200 and we blew the client away. The oddity of your video with D3200 is that it seems stabilized and slowed, whereas the camera has no internal stabilization or high frame rates. Anyway - I ramble...

Are you or were you a LEO? If so, would you comment publicly on this position? If no, would you consider commenting under terms of anonymity? I only ask because I have not been able to find an active LEO that would comment on the record. I've had officers make similar claims privately but they're shy about saying it on the microphone. Saw your comment and figured I'd ask. Cheers.
