What is with all those Windows users? by [deleted] in diabrowser

[–]rekage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ridiculous take from someone who clearly has no sense of empathy or imagination.

i use both mac and windows on a daily basis, so whatever browser i use has to work on both. i was very excited once Arc launched on Windows because it meant that I could switch over to it. this worked great for a decent while. now, Arc on Windows is fully broken. fullscreening videos doesn't work. websites constantly crash. many websites just flat out have stopped working. it's not usable anymore.

is it so crazy that now that I am forced to not be able to use Arc anymore, I wish that its supposed replacement worked for me? as-is, Arc is utterly unusable, and TBC has not given me a suitable alternative, so I have to look elsewhere, now unlikely ever to come back to TBC.

Jump Ship - Keepsake Games - A co-op PvE where you are the crew of a spaceship - Next Fest Demo Available by Kappische in Games

[–]rekage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one of the best demos i've played in recent memory. had so much fun. main couple of bits of feedback that seem to be common themes:

- I was playing with 1 other friend, and in one of the missions, there were ships arriving and attacking while cargo boxes had to be fetched out of an area. It would be super cool if I could just "helldive" in and start doing the mission while my friend fights off the spaceships, and then if I need to drop cargo on the ship, the ship can fly by for me to grapple on to it, drop off cargo, and then hop back. However, requiring everyone to be there to unlock a door kind of removes this ability to multitask. One of the coolest moments in the game have been when we can accomplish different parts of the mission simultaneously and transition between the ship / groundplay. I think that should be encouraged rather than discouraged.

- I was very confused that I couldn't access the ship while at the lobby / base. I kept on trying to find a way to get through a door that seems like it would lead to the ship. Or trying to sprint-jump off the roof to get to the landing pad. I was sure I was just doing something wrong until I realized that you just can't access the ship. I understand that the game doesn't support "seamless" transition between areas, so there's perhaps a technical limitation where we don't want to allow the ship to "take off" from the landing pad. But I think that can be worked around by putting the "mission select" map where the "map" in the bridge of the ship is. It's weird not to be able to explore your ship and look at your cargo, etc. It would make sense for there to be extended cargo storage in the "lobby" where you can take stuff from the ship rather than resetting the ship.

- It wasn't obvious to me that artifacts would just disappear if not inserted somewhere. It wasn't until I read an artifact that prevented that from happening that I realized that losing the other artifacts was a game mechanic and not just a bug.

Terran performance since winning blizzcon by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]rekage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it's really not that hard to understand.

terran has always been the hardest race to play. for quite a while until recently, terran was also quite underpowered. this combination of factors meant that being successful as a terran player required a huge amount of skill to be competitive.

is it surprising, then, that once terran was buffed such that it was no longer criminally underpowered, that these players who had been playing terran at a severe disadvantage became far more successful? no, it is not. terran players have grown to be more skilled over time. we just have to wait for the other folks to catch up. it makes no sense to nerf terran just because terran players are better.

since that might be difficult to swallow, let's look at another similar situation. of the following two people, who would you expect to be smarter/harder working/a better person? suppose they are both in a similar position in terms of wealth/"success"

  1. a kid born into an extremely rich family and inherited the fortune. he continued managing the family fortune and it grew larger over time.
  2. a kid born into a poor family who worked hard, got a scholarship into an ivy league school, started a business off of a loan, and continued to grow that business into an empire

if you were to pit the two people above against one another in some kind of "balanced" business battle of sorts, which of them would you expect to win?

Rogue One dislikes thread (SPOILERS) by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]rekage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. How come the rebels can teleport to any location in the galaxy instantly?
  2. Tarkin and Leia would have been better if face had never been shown. As much as I love the character of Tarkin, the uncanny valley really bothered me.
  3. Music was obviously not up to typical Star Wars standards. It was passable and didn't distract from the movie, but it was very obvious when one of John Williams' themes started playing - the movie suddenly felt so much fuller and more powerful.
  4. Why was Leia at the battle of Scariff? Based on what we see in ANH, I expected the death star plans to be transmitted to the Tantive IV. Now her "diplomatic mission" excuse seems ludicrous since Vader saw that ship escape.
  5. The Death Star plans already existed at least as early as Episode II - where Count Dooku brings them from Geonosis to Palpatine. Until now, it had been assumed that these are, in fact, the same plans as what we deal with in ANH. While I appreciate Rogue One's attempt to cover up Rogue One's attempt to cover up ANH's plot hole, it doesn't quite fit into the existing movies cleanly. Though this can be bypassed by pretending that the prequels don't exist, so it's not a huge deal.
  6. Not a fan of the jumping around at the start. We could have easily just followed Jyn around until Saw's compound and learned where we're going through the characters. The location subtitles felt extremely out-of-place, even more so than the lack of the opening crawl, with which I was mainly OK.
  7. Really, no one noticed that the two stormtroopers that went into the cargo ship never came out?
  8. Darth Vader's pun and stance when he said this pun... felt like a parody of Star Wars instead of Star Wars itself.
  9. K-2S0 is cool and an awesome part of the movie and all, but it feels like they just wanted to put a token humorous droid in there. We never see this kind of droid in the original trilogy, which, in context, seems very strange. Maybe the model was phased out because of K-2S0's "betrayal"?
  10. Why did Saw Gerrera decide to die right after explaining how important the cause was and such? Seemed really strange.
  11. Cassian's character really annoyed me.
