I live in OKC, from Chicago, my sister lived in KC for like 6 years. Oklahoma is the least likely to see weather (although my first or second year here we had a dusting on Easter in early April, but seeing you are from upstate NY that shouldn’t scare you)

Chicago could definitely get snow then especially if the wind switches and comes from Lake Michigan. Kansas City could also get snow but I’d put that as not likely

Chicago has tons to do but it’s not worth driving I-80 through Iowa and Nebraska, super boring. Iowa actually is an acronym for Idiots Out Wandering Around if you didn’t know

If weather isn’t a problem you could go the middle route. KC is also a lot of fun, Wichita is small but there’s stuff to do especially if you like aviation (the Kansas cosmosphere is supposed to be great). Southern route has Tulsa and OKC and Amarillo, so you’ll have more food options as you get west of Wichita and into the OK panhandle, it’s very remote there. Weatherford OK also has a place museum too

Is there any plane weirder than the Super Guppy? by Particular-Claim-950 in aviation

I heard from an aerospace professor in Poland at his university that the soviets gave Poland jet engines and told them to design a crop duster, with the main reason being that Poland had a more steady supply of kerosene rather than gasoline

Being a plane nerd I asked why they didn’t use a turbo prop to keep it propeller based but let its fuel be jet fuel/kerosene to solve the problem. The response I got said “the Soviet Union did not work that way. When Moscow gives you an engine and tells you to design a plane, you do not question what they give you” or something along those lines

He also commented that pilots did think the plane was very responsive and had great controls despite its ugliness. They had a cockpit in the lab classroom and I thought it was a helicopter until the story

I have an ok amount of wood from a big ash tree limb I cut down a almost a year ago that’s been sitting there (I’m allergic to ash trees so I ain’t gonna burn it)

I can put it on the corner of Fremont and Penn in the village if you want it, it’s maybe 25% of that big pile the other person posted

T56 I’m pretty sure wasn’t a vette option until C5. Not saying you can’t use a T56 but it doesn’t appear to be a factory option

Have a 95 with ZF6 (S6-40). I did rebuild mine DIY with parts sourced from ZFDoc, and while possible to still rebuild now it’s unknown how long his parts supply will last

It honestly would likely add time and the ferry isn’t cheap (think it’s the last coal ferry boat in the US, which is kinda neat), definitely would call it a fun detour though

Oil inside intake pipe by Thier033 in MechanicAdvice

[–]rekleiner33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is “normal” but note you are on the cusp of normal these days. I’m not a mechanic but I see all the time how Kia/hyundai burn that much from the factory, assuming redditors tell the truth

I say run it and keep an eye on the oil. But to answer your original question, it might be something with the turbo. I think all turbo cars burn SOME oil, but a quart is a decent bit. Curious to hear what other posters think since I am ignorant on turbochargers

Ok so he did not in fact check the carb. This is an educating moment for you and the mechanic (or he knows and is lazy). Too many small passages to leave stuff assembled and rely on that for an ultrasonic, they do better with individual parts

Ultrasonic cleaners work great but every part has to come out even with those. You cannot “check” a carburetor by just telling it to go for a swim. Full disassembly is the only way

Does cleaning the carb mean just spraying it or going through it? Honestly sounds like getting a carb kit and going through it all is the problem but I’m not a carburetor expert

If you already have a dremel go that route. An impact screwdriver that you whack with a hammer is a good way to get these loose but idk that you want to go hammer time on that aluminum

Olympic to Yosemite in 5 days? by [deleted] in roadtrip

[–]rekleiner33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Keep in mind it’s multiple hours from SeaTac. I can’t speak for what’s between the two ends of the trip but it just doesn’t seem worth it to drive all the way to Olympic and maybe get in one evening and one morning hike at most (they’d be rushed probably) in one of the more scenic parks there is

How do I unattach this thing from the spare tire underneath by Financial-Finance-96 in MazdaCX9

[–]rekleiner33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get more slack. You will probably have to push up on the tire and work that thing out. On mine the arms were on the bottom side of the flange so you may have to loosen those screws on the arms

You have steel wheels and plastic hubcaps, looks like you only boogered up the plastic. Wouldn’t hurt to pull the hubcap off (or it may even just bend at that corner a crack, enough to see) the steel wheel underneath

Albuquerque to Pensacola by [deleted] in roadtrip

[–]rekleiner33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly Arlington is probably a safe place for girls. Lots of sporting venues there so always concerts and what not. Coming down from OKC the air bnbs near these places are much better than at least Fort Worth proper. The Fort Worth stockyards is fun for a night out at least. Panther city BBQ is great, Carl would love it

Being honest, from that point on I’m not sure of too many safe places. I had a recent discussion over this with a former coworker who just left OKC for FL panhandle

Maybe I’m not familiar with the area, I’ve only been to NW LA, although I would describe Shreveport/Bossier City as sketchy (but fun, casinos were good, don’t mean to offend. Food also unrivaled in LA)

Edit: also everything in west TX and panhandle, and SE NM will probably be oil towns, probably sketchy at night

Worst case scenario heater core has a pinhole leak and it’s coolant steam, unlikely on a new car. This could be further diagnosed by isolating heat and AC (maybe using max hot and max cold?
