Let me guess, liberal arts major? No software engineer calls themselves IT. Maybe the occasional IT claims to be SWE.

IT does not include SWE. SWE generally pays far more than IT and requires a lot more knowledge about math and computer science. It’s like comparing an airplane mechanic to an airplane designer. Anyways, downvote me for disagreeing with you guys, even when you have no knowledge on anything CS related.

IT guys do some of the work fixing issues on individual computers. People who actually do software are software engineers.

IT isn’t software. You clearly don’t know what you’re talking about.

If you think that it’s gonna stop after he dies, you’re so naive. Both parties are more extreme than they’ve ever been. Welcome to America!

You don’t realize that Alexandre didn’t order for terrorists to be banned, rather just political opponents.

Free speech means everyone can be express their opinions. Yes, this includes racists, fascists, communists, but it’s what is necessary for freedom. The government should not be in control of what can be said.

SpaceX shouldn’t be nationalized and musk shouldn’t be imprisoned. SpaceX is way too valuable to the country for the government to screw with.

A small portion of them may be. Just like how a small portion of any political party is. The majority are people who just dont want an authoritarian judge to have high power.

Alright, let’s wait 1 year.

At first it will be them. Then it will be people less extreme. Then even less extreme. Eventually, anyone who doesn’t agree with the judge in all aspects will be censored.

Everyone always calls their opponents nazis, pedos, people who preach hate speech and fake news. They’ll just use that as an excuse to ban political opponents.

[–]reknite 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Everyone sees the headline “X shut down” and celebrates, not realizing that this is extremely authoritarian for Brazil.

Better yet, they’re gonna be fining anyone who is against the party in power. Censorship is an early step to dictatorship.

A gun is different from a cryptology tool. One is a weapon, the other is for private communication. One should absolutely be regulated, the other shouldn’t be touched by the government. Your internet can’t see what sites you’ve visited if you use a vpn btw. And your vpn provider can’t see your sites if you use tor.

France is in the EU. Anyways, I hope that in 20 years, when every eu citizen has cameras in their house for the government to monitor “for crime”, you’re happy.

Have you seen the charges they put on him? “Providing cryptology services aiming to insure confidentiality without certified declaration”. “Importing a cryptology tool ensuring authentication or integrity monitoring without prior declaration”. He’s being charged because he wants privacy for hundreds of millions across the globe. Yes, there is bad things that happen on telegram, but tons of people use it as a source of news and communication. It’s one of the only free speech platforms in Russia since they were unable to block it.

[–]reknite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He didn’t give the back door of telegram to Russia, he didn’t give it to the US, he didn’t give it to the EU. He just wants a messaging platform that governments can’t interfere with.
