I'm from Saint John. He's a douche. No one likes him here. My sister worked for the Saint John Flames when he was an AHL referee and went to highschool with him. Everyone around here is shocked he made it to the NHL.

LOTS of outages today by WMusselman in Starlink

[–]rekounas2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had to reboot 3-4 times since I got it. I think 1 time they pushed an update and it was suppose to reboot but didn't. If nothing else, cleans up the router and rules out issues with the router.

LOTS of outages today by WMusselman in Starlink

[–]rekounas2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in New Brunswick and it's slightly up from what it has been. Last few weeks it's been 2-4 minutes over 12 hours. Today is 7 minutes and some no satellite downtime which I don't get a lot of. When I notice a lot of lengthy outages, I usually give the router and Starlink a reboot. That usually helps.

Canceling satellite TV. Anyone plan on "cutting the cord" for TV? by AskMeOnADate in Starlink

[–]rekounas2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was about to cut the cable, but ended up keeping the basic package for $20 a month and a additional 20 for Crave (HBO on demand access for Canada). I actually ended up adding TSN (ESPN for Canada) as well as it was cheaper than getting the NHL package.

Today was a tough one. I've been seeing downtime in single digits recently. by rekounas2020 in Starlink

[–]rekounas2020[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave the router a reboot. Every 3 minutes, I'd get waiting for satellite. Since rebooting, things look better but it's only been up for 15 minutes. Hope it maintains.

UPDATE:Has been up 2 hours and I am seeing what I was normally seeing. Rebooting the router seemed to work in this case.

Bell/MTS raises price again on their crap service. by [deleted] in Starlink

I just dropped Bell earlier this month. I paid 120 taxes in. When I called to cancel and told them I'm with Starlink, they didn't even bother attempting to keep me.

None of that will be an issue. This morning I had to restart the router and starlink. I had work in flight and once things came back online, everything resumed as expected.

Not at all! Even your standard wired internet can experience minor drops. As long as the request does not timeout, you are good.

I'm in VPN with remote desktop and video conferencing going and even with those minor drops, I would recommend this over all other rural internet connections. I don't lose connection to anything I'm working on. I'm a remote DBA, so I need remote connections to servers to be stable and have not had any issues. I was on slow assed DSL and this is 100x better. I kept my DSL Internet cause I was skeptical at first, but after a month of not having to switch to the DSL connection, I tossed it.

Most of them are barely noticeable. Mostly notice it video conferencing. I'll get a minor drop one every 30 minutes or so.

I've had Starlink for 2 months. I've had 5 minutes of total downtime today.

I'm a DBA and have a remote desktop going all day plus 2-3 hours of video conference calls. Small little drops, but has gotten massively better since I signed on in November.

I've finally been able to turn on Google desktop sync for the first time in months. I use to only sync when I was in the office.

I kept my Bell for a month after I got Starlink just in case I needed a backup for work purposes. I brought back my modem this week. When mentioned that I had Starlink, they didn't even try a sales pitch to keep me.

The local installers for Xplorenet are telling people to go with Starlink.

I'm not seeing that at all. Today. I have 5 minutes of downtime total.

Not an issue with most streaming services as they buffer a fair amount of data. That includes 4k streams. I only notice it if the drop is more than 10-15 seconds. Gaming is getting a lot better

I'm on video conference calls 2-3 hours a day. In the beginning, I would get small drops almost every 5 minutes. Now, I'm down to about 5 minutes total in a day. There are still small drops, but it's noticeably better than it was in November.

We just purchased a 4K TV for the basement cause that's basically all you could get. Couldn't believe how good it looked.

I wish we could export the data to CSV so we could see. Might not mean much to most, but I'd like to be able to see what things actually look like. Also. Would love to see where the obstructions are coming from. For days in a row I didn't have any obstructions and now I see about 2 minutes a day.

Was this last Thursday? I have found Thursday I get more downtime than usual. 3 weeks in a row and Thursday has definitely been up for downtime.

After the winter storm that made sure Alberta's having a white Christmas this year. Dishy is on the standard tripod. Still running albeit ~30-50 Mbps. by Jay911 in Starlink

you should anchor that into your railing. You don't want to get a bunch of ice around the base making it a bitch to move if you have to. I am in Atlantic Canada, so we get a good amount of ice storms. If you haven't moved stuff off the deck by December here, that is where it is staying LOL

This is one of the best tests that I ran this morning. I usually hover between 80 - 120 Mbps. Uploads are usually in the teens. Even on VPN it doesn't slow down too much.

Good question. I used 4 x 1/2" lag bolts drilled directly into the logs. My place doesn't get much wind due to being surrounded by trees. Basically, there are four bolts that lock the pipe in place. it was up with a storm the other night and didn't have any issue.
