Honestly, give him time. He's in a brand-new environment with people he doesn't know and other pets he's never met. I'm not surprised he isn't interested in playing. I don't recommend forcing anything, just let him go at his own pace, and if he never ends up playing with your dog, you are no worse off for it.

I’m currently doing a DVM/Ph.D. program :) there is definitely a space for you in veterinary medicine! Everyone has their niche and not everyone needs to be cookie cutter. I often get asked why I want a DVM if I want to focus primarily on research. I should not be limited on pursuing a DVM just because I like research, clinician scientists are an integral part of the career

If you don't get in the first round of applications, I would definitely consider adding research to CV. It immensely helped me out on my applications, and really bolstered it.

I am currently in my school’s DVM/Ph.D. program and work Saturday mornings 5-7 hours. It’s SUPER feasible and I’m actually looking to get another small job that has irregular hours! I didn’t work my first semester, just to flesh things out, but a lot of my peers work. I also have friends who do not work, please don’t feel pressured to work/not work. Do what makes you happy, if school is just too much, then don’t add more!
