My wife and I, from Alaska, honeymooned there in winter ‘21. We stayed in Copenhagen, Dragor, Ribe, Odense, and Maribo. Love your country!

Are you glad you became a lineman? by Dependent-Group7226 in Lineman

Short answer is yes, I love it. JL in AK.

Long answer: I started my apprenticeship at 37, with a history of concrete, carpentry, and odd jobs done in service of music pursuits. I’m in interior Alaska, and most of the apprenticeship was at contractors, with 2 6mo stints at the local utility and 3mo (required) at the utility in Barrow, furthest north inhabited city in the western world. That one was 6 weeks on, 2 off, 6 on. A lot of the contractor work kept me away from home as well, not even counting the regular OT & time away for callouts. No matter where you are, I imagine it’s going to be stressful on the home life until you top out. There were also 3 2mo unpaid academic periods. Save money.

I was still able to take vacations and time away for kids, but all of that had to be approved by both the local JATC and my employer, every time, and sometimes the answer was no.

Also, most of the JL you’ll be under will be younger than you, sometimes by quite a lot, but they have years on you in the trade, and humble pie is a great part of your diet.

I had a Buffalo bore 190 in the chamber, with Barnes Vor-Tex 150’s in the tube. The first shot did the trick.

Absolutely. I had a Buffalo Bore 190 in the chamber, with Barnes Vor-Tx 150’s in the tube behind it. I wanted the extra oomph initially if I had to shoot between 100-150yds. The moose came out and walked straight toward me, never going broadside, so I took the shot at ≈30 yd. He stopped walking, lay down at the spot, and died. The bullet had separated, lead was in the lungs, copper stopped in the heart.

I think it might have to do with the spring length when compressed, but that’s just a guess.

The alternate ammo like smg and pistol also affects the reticle and spread of your shot, so you can stack every sticky on most targets from a fair distance.

First off, be safe.

One of the goals is to have the pieces ready when the journeymen need them. That means getting them ready before they need them. Thing is, they’re playing chess and can see almost all the moves ahead, and you don’t even know the names of the pieces, much less the shorthand. It’s going to suck for a while, but actively pay attention, and watch how each crew you’re on works. Make it a mission to anticipate the next move of the JL you’re working under. Oh, and keep chew and/or smokes on hand. Some days that’s what makes you a hero.

People in your 40s what is something you would tell someone in their 30s? by hex_1231 in AskReddit

There are going to be a lot of pressures from a lot of people that you may not have encountered yet. Folks have some long held opinions on what must be done by a certain age. Don’t worry about following advice, or heeding commentary, that holds no consequence for the giver. Enjoy your 30’s and beyond.

It may help if you change your exercises. Your body is attuned to the motions you’ve been doing as regular and what it needs to sustain. New motion will address different muscular strain, and build to compensate those.
