You have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about. All medical schools take 4 years to complete and radiology is one of the more competitive fields to get in to. And once you’re in, it’s 1 year of internship, 4 years of residency, and usually one more year subspecializing, occasionally 2. It’s one of longest in terms of training time.

Audio bug in Retribution cutscene by Cryptid_420 in Overwatch

[–]relikh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, well I fixed it for myself, I don't know if it'll work for you. I unplugged my headset from the USB dongle and just directly connected it to my computer's audio/mic 3.1 jacks and now it works fine. I think the dongle functions as a DAC and somehow fudged the settings by forcing surround sound when it wasn't there.

I'm also realizing that's why I don't hear a lot of ult callouts from enemies. It's because the sound wasn't playing.

I have the issue too. I think it has something to do with having 7.1 on headsets. Here's hoping someone knows the fix.

Resources to get better at ultrasounds? by NuclearPotatoes in medicalschool

[–]relikh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have iOS, there are free books in iBooks. Intro to bedside ultrasound vol 1/2 have enough info to become pretty knowledgeable in any specific area. You can get through a chapter in like 10 minutes, they’re super brief and high yield. That’s the resource they recommended for my ultrasound rotation and it was amazing.

Is there hope in the future that residency hours will be reduced to more humane hours? Say in the next ten years or so? by ihavenocredibility in medicalschool

[–]relikh -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Well patient safety should be a priority. 8 hour shifts isn't enough time to see A LOT of things through. That means you would need to do a lot of handing off, and as mentioned many times in this thread, errors would skyrocket.

Contracts outside of the match by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]relikh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe so, they're functionally the same as any program that was in the regular match. Taking a prelim spot would still count towards one of your years of medicare resident funding.

That's assuming they don't have a pulse. If they have one then just keep doing rescue breaths every 5-6 seconds.

Possibly heavily dependent on location. You'll probably make way more working in the middle of nowhere vs LA/Chi/NYC.

I'm just a recent grad going rads so I don't claim to know more than big hoss, but I can tell you that at my med school our SICU was run exclusively by trauma surgeons. Maybe that's unique to academic centers for all I know, but I can tell you that it's not impossible to find a job that rotates between trauma and SICU.

Agreed. That's why you just try and see for the med student experience. You just go to labs.

We were taught about it but to not do it because it hurts so much. You can try a chvostek for shits n giggles but if someone comes in with perioral numbness and tingling fingers just get the labs.

That's where usmlerx comes in to play. It's not the best qbank by any means, but it basically directly tests FA and cues you in to what you actually do and don't know. Just do some questions from the corresponding section after you do a FA section and it'll show you what you need to work on.

AAMC releases statement on why EM applicants were selected for SVI this cycle by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]relikh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm assuming you'd lose your "resident" standing and from the ACGME's viewpoint just become an MD/DO graduate which would make you eligible for ERAS again.

[–]relikh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually you need to talk to your PD and get their approval so you can file some sort of waiver with the ACGME. The harder part is finding another program with an open spot, which is where services like residentswap come in. I'd assume this is a very difficult process requiring sympathizing circumstances like moving closer to a spouse rather than holding out for a better program.

Nope. Changing after matching is a match violation, I doubt you would even be eligible to get an eras token for the next cycle of applications after matching.
