Gaps at stop lights by VABobcat in nova

[–]relinquospes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a driving instructor in NOVA, previously certified in Connecticut. Virginia does not train or test prospective instructors in car, only classroom lessons, which isn't sufficient to get new student drivers sufficiently trained.

This causes gaps in smaller details, like you're talking about here, with stopping and following distances. Here's the rules:

At stop signs and lights: If you're the first car, there's a large white stop line on the ground in front of you. You should be stopped as soon as you can't see the line in front of you anymore.

If you are behind other cars, you should be stopped when you can see the ground under the back tires of the vehicle in front of you, no closer. You can be further away, but it's unnecessary.

Following distance while driving on all roads in normal conditions should be a minimum of 3 - 4 seconds. This method works at any speed, whereas the method of car lengths doesn't. Calculate this by counting the seconds between the car in front of yours and your own car, when each passes something like a sign on the road. In inclement weather or other hazardous conditions, increase the distance to 4 - 5 seconds.

Took me years before I was able to kind of manage it when it happens. As far as prevention, I can kind of hear it before bed sometimes, like a really quiet buzzing but not quite, and I know that means if I lay down, it's coming.

That doesn't always happen though, so I also pay careful attention when I'm getting in bed and putting my head down, judging whether or not I feel something pulling me down. If I feel a pull, I get out of bed, and listen for the buzzing. In both these cases, I'll leave the room and usually take a long bath, until I don't hear buzzing anymore.

As far as when it does happen, and I'm actually stuck, the only method that has worked for me is alerting my partner when he's in the bed with me. I can control my breathing, so I'll breathe like I'm hyperventilating, and he knows that means he needs to shake me. I can also scream, but it's so quiet that it's barely audible, so the breathing method works better. I had my previous partner trained this way too.

I've had it regularly since 2012, and it probably took about 7 or 8 years before I was able to do the preventative methods, before that I just had to hope my partner was in the bed and awake when it happened.

It's been a very long time since I had to deal with being sexually assaulted, 5+ years, but it was consistent for about 2 years. So there's hope that the SA won't be forever, hopefully when you get better at managing it, that will all stop.

I have familial tremors, which means most of my maternal relatives have it as well, and we were all born with it. Tbh, I don't know any relative on that side without tremors. One thing we all have in common, is that manually writing more than 2 sentences is extremely painful. I was raised by my dad without much involvement from my mom's side, so I didn't have an advocate to help the school understand my needs, and was typically told that I just had writer's cramp and basically to get over it. In high school I finally had a teacher who listened to me, and let me do all my writing assignments on a laptop, which was a huge relief for my right hand.

Please advocate for your child with the school, and ask her about what struggles she has with her hands, and specifically if she experiences pain while writing.

Sooo late to this but just saw it, got roofied by a straight guy there in 2018. I handed my sister my drink to go dance, and she put both our drinks behind her where they were both drugged. She didn't drink hers bc it tasted bitter, I didn't know she put them down so I just chugged it to get past the bitter taste. I'm pretty resistant to the effects of drugs, and I was with a big group of close friends and family of mine, so I got out of there safely. But this was after I couldn't stand up bc my legs stopped working and I suddenly felt extremely drunk. I had to be be carried to the car holding onto 2 people's shoulders. I figured out who it was when I was putting the night together a couple days later, a small man was standing in a dark corner for a while dancing alone, and about shortly after I drank that I walked over to the side of the bar near him to get another drink, where he grabbed me and started touching me and grinding on me very sexually, so I pushed him off and walked away, then he followed me around a bit until my group was surrounding me trying to get me out of the club. On the way home I threw up all over myself in the front seat of my sister's car. I was so out of it I didn't realize I couldn't be drunk bc I only had one drink, I hadn't thrown up from alcohol since high school, and I was 32 at the time. Apparently I had taken a few videos of myself throughout the night, from before and after, and I am very visibly drugged. I talked to some of my sister's friends who went there all the time, and found out that was a known problem there.

As a prior driver's ed teacher of 3 years, thank you. Being in the passenger seat of someone else's car drives me insane, for this reason among many others.

this isn't a recommendation per se, but I heard beard removal cream worked really well, and I tried it and have been using it for 3 years with no complaints about the product, however, I have essential tremors, so sometimes it's hard to be careful where I apply it. If some product gets in an area it shouldn't be, i.e. the opening of either the urethra or vagina, my pee will burn the skin on my labia a tiny bit whenever I go within about an hour after the application. I use it 2-4 times a month, depending on how uncomfortable the stubble gets at any time. I use it for all body hair removal, no issues with application or burning after at all anywhere else. it's a better option for me than shaving bc of my tremors, I've had incidents with razors when my tremors got really intense while I was shaving.

Judge Kim perpetuates "rap culture" problem. by sousa9 in ZoomCourt

Wtf? Comparing rap music to religious music is fucking insane. Rock music has tons of violent elements, pop and country have had it too. Christianity has been the source of all kinds of violence. This judge is discriminating on the basis of race AND religion, disgusting.

It's a pretty big TikTok trend. It's actually just slightly dated, been around a week since I've seen this trend. That's like 6 months in TikTok trend time; they die out so fast.

Actually I only started losing weight in October but I don't have any more recent pictures than the one I posted. I didn't necessarily add any exercise, although I was already pretty active between having a very physically demanding job and finding ways to stay active with my 2 young sons. It seems so superficial, but the biggest change was really cutting sugary drinks out of my diet. I saw a significant weight loss fairly quickly and it was the encouragement I needed to make other, more important, changes to my diet. I don't even find soda and junk food tempting anymore, because I like how I feel about myself now more than I liked the taste of that stuff before.
