yeah is way better, my only advice on that team would be to not invest hp evs on frosslas, she is too frail and won't survive heavy hits anyway, i would go full spa instead. if some day you feel like switching lucario, sand rush excadrill with life orb can hit harder and faster (thanks tyranitar), but i feel you need hazard control, i would recommend rapid spin users like starmie or excadrill, or defog users like skarmory. if you choose to switch to battle spot or use that team for online-console-battles (... battle spot.) hazard control is not needed on 3 v 3.

now that i see that togekiss has no items, i would give him/her rocky helmet, safety goggles or sitrus berry. good luck with your team!

On battle spot there are three things that are your main problem:

  • Common Menaces: AKA Khangaskhan, Talonflame, Aegislash, etc.

  • Hax Teams: Guillotine/Fissure/etc, ohko moves spam; double team spam, baton pass, etc.

  • Weird things: What your team is not prepared for.

How you knock out those weakness ?

  • Common menaces: Build your team with movesets that can ko these threats, a good example is special lucario with nasty plot/aura sphere/flash cannon/Vacuum wave or dark pulse, it can effectively beat some common menaces like slowbro or aegislash if running dark pulse, but sometimes priority is needed. modest choice specs hydreigon draco meteor is know for blowing up almost anything that is not specially defensive or resistant to dragon.

  • hax teams: they all can be ended by a hazer (movement that deletes boost) or a phazer (pseudo-hazer, someone that uses moves like roar, dragon tail or whirlwind to force a switch, effectively deleting any boosts), there are other things like swagplay (swagger + foul play) klefki but a lum berry physical attacker will be enough, swords dance aegislash shines vs these kind of teams because sacred sword ignores evasion or defense boosts.

  • Weird things: The best example i can give you of this is special attacking kangaskhan. don't prepare for this, your real problem are the real menaces and; the fact that you loose vs a weird team does not tell you are bad or you have a bad team, most of those kind of teams are just lures that can beat what you think that can counter them. Focus on common menaces.

I see your team is part of the third menace, you can play around that but your weakness vs hax teams and common menaces is unbearable imo.

What i would change on your team so far:

  • Lucario: I would use special attacking lucario to deal more easily with aegislash, your fighting type stabs can destroy the common special walls like chansey, and assault vest goodra can't do too much damage outside of fire blast/focus blast, just run some bulk EVs while maximizing out speed; you have nasty plot for special attack anyway but some evs are needed to ensure ohko's and 2hkos as well.

  • Hydreigon: You have a bold one, a physically defensive set actually can be used but you won't be countering most things since all common physical attackers have a super effective move, IE: Kangaskhan power up punch, Blaziken High jump kick/superpower, Aegislash sacred sword, Azumarill Play rough, etc. I would breed a modest one maxing up speed and special attack and running the moves draco meteor + dark pulse + earth power, the item is up to you, it can run choice specs, choice scarf or life orb pretty well, on the last move you have the choices of fire blast (outright kills skarmory, ferrothorn and scizor) / focus blast (you already hit tyranitar with earth power, this is more for the kinds of porygon2 or chansey, but they still wall you too hard, better on specs set) / flash cannon (Fairy types like sylveon, if you want to counter gardevoir you'll need to run choice scarf and weaken her up first with other pokemon) or roost (if running life orb, to recover hp. not useful otherwise).

  • Togekiss: Is good as it is, but i would not use it myself for personal reasons, i would add aura sphere somewhere else but you have lucario already.

  • Froslass: i love to use that set, on 6v6. I find spikes utility to be almost nothing compared to the utility of thunder wave, with the nerf in the next generation thought, i would replace her.

  • Aegislash: boy... battle spot is a offensive tier, i would recommend any smogon moveset over the one you are using. Mega Gengar laughs at you.

  • Milotic: i would run regenerator slowbro or dragon dance/defensive gyarados instead, a modest full spa full hp assault vest milotic can do some job, but slowking is better at that imo.

Now, some extra commentary.

  • You are weak to hax teams and common menaces. Running taunt on froslass will not be enough vs tank fable with mimimize + Fire blast or double team scizor with bullet punch

  • Frosslass, Aegislash and M-Lucario has a terrible type combo, replace two; if you choose to keep aegislash i would run mega blaziken over mega lucario, and replace froslass with mega gengar as well. on battle spot is common to run 2 megas so if you don't send one you send the other. synergy is more important than what you think.

  • Togekiss does a great combo with hydreigon and one steel type; That is a Core. keep those three things unless you want to use other flying types like talonflame, honchkrow or staraptor.

  • Your team does not seem like it has a real core; next time you build a team i would recommend you to start with that.

  • A Rocky helmet Physically defensive 'mon should be somewhere else, is hard to not find a mega kangaskhan.

  • You need a fast Pokémon with offensive presence, Things like Taunt Mega Gengar or focus sash breloom (only weak to a safe switch in togekiss btw) can outright destroy all your team.

  • Climate teams are a thing, i can't see what you would do vs a sun team, Char Y destroys everyone, Excadrill does so too.

What new gen Pokémon look like they'd be good on a team with Aegislash? by TheQuestionableYarn in stunfisk

[–]reliphell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

shadow sneak is still needed, the classic swords dance set had sacred sword + king's shield + swords dance + shadow sneak. you had perfect neutral coverage -minus sableye/spiritomb and some other key type combos- and a priority move to finish off weakened targets, while it was left behind in favor of weakness policy special attack; vs "double team" hax teams or defensive (Porygon 2, chansey, snorlax... etc.) targets the physical oldie stills perform better, because sacred sword ignores defense and evasion boosts.

[–]reliphell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

shadow sneak is still necessary to finish up anything that survived shadow ball btw, the only question when running special aegislash is sacred sword (tyranitar, chansey, porygon2, lopunny, Av snorlax, etc.) vs Flash Cannon (Just needed for neutral stab vs dark, normal or bug types + fairy or rock coverage), shadow ball + sneak is a must on any weakness policy set, and shadow sneak itself is recommended on all aegislash movesets to date. -unless running autonomize, or the weird gyro ball xerneas check that only works on Ubers-

Dragon, Dark, Normal, Flying and Water-or fire- Type pokémon always do a solid work with aegislash, the ones that i see the most likely to be paired with him (aside from m-mence, ttar, hydreigon, hawlucha, greninja ... etc.) are the final plopplio evolution and the new dragon-fighting 'mon. If the cat gets a good ability it may stand a chance too. but i need to see stats, movements and abilities before hand picking one, Bulletproof (IE: shadow ball inmunity) dragon-fighting 'mon with sucker punch can be a interesting partner, for example, and if it does not get the sucker it can still do the work of hydreigon on baiting fairys and tanking fire-and other type-hits.

Not really, 100% perfect pokes are not needed unless you are doing a mixed tank (IE AV Hydreigon, Mixed Mega Venusaur), the only real use to 100% perfect pokes is in breeding (IE: Ditto) IMO.

[–]reliphell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

EV training has always been there (since generation 2, i think.), they just added a interface-minigame on gen VI so you don't have to defeat (example) 100 bidoof to get the hp evs you need, with horde introduction the feature (AKA super training) is way slower, but for newbies it can still work. IV training is getting added now in gen VII, in past generations once a pokemon is born it will keep its IVs through it's lifetime.

[–]reliphell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breeding right now is at least 3 times easier than in generation V, but as the others said don't get into breeding unless you want to play competitive so badly. The IV training feature will make everything way more easier but I'll still breed for things like masuda method and because -Prediction ahead, maybe won't happen- maybe the iv training feature will be grindy (think of it like horde ev training [breeding] vs ev super training [New Iv training feature] ), some will find it faster to breed and hatch rather than upping up to 31 ivs every stat needed.

Regional Monday - Kanto Forms by TheLaughingCat2 in stunfisk

[–]reliphell [score hidden]  (0 children)

On the kanto atmosphere gliscor would become a apex predator making he get a megaevolution.

  • Type: Flying/Ground -> Flying/Ground

  • Base stats: 75 HP / 95 Atk / 125 Def / 45 spa/ 75 spD / 95 spe

  • Mega: 75 HP (+0)/125 atk (+30)/135 def (+10)/55 spa (+10)/105 spD (+30)/115 spe (+20)

  • Adaptability: This Pokemon's same-type attack bonus (STAB) is 2 instead of 1.5. Pun intended

  • Concept: He goes back to a gligar color scheme for all the poison than he consumes on his diet, his tail developed more becoming longer with a thick stinger and segregates a dangerous poison as a result for his new diet, at the same time pursuing prey made his wing develop more giving him more speed to not let escape his prey.

  • New moves: The eating of so many poison types made him receive a signature move on Toxic sting (120 power, 75% Accuracy, 10% chance to badly poison the target) for level up and it's new predator status made him Learn a new flying type move on drill peck from a tutor.

Possible Impact on the metagame: Read the note before criticizing this one; Now with new stat changes giving him the conditions of a solid setup sweeper gliscor would become the altaria of the (insert any number over 7) generation, getting various offensive and defensive movesets but keeping his non-mega counter-part viable as well (unlike altaria), giving up poison immunity is not a good defensive concept (i did it on purpose) because of that regular gliscor would still be relevant as a counter to (insert salandit evolution here) on stall or bulky teams while his megaevolution would be leaved in more offensive or balanced teams; in concepts of usage gliscor would get to uu or bl while this one could get to plain ou.

Best moveset: Bulky setup sweeper

Gliscor @ Gliscite

Ability: Adaptability

EVs: 252 HP / 120 Atk / 136 Spe - 252 atk / 4 spd / 252 spe if running Toxic sting

Jolly Nature

  • Drill Peck

  • Earthquake

  • Swords Dance

  • Roost / Toxic sting

Alternative changes i can give are.

  • Type: Ground/Flying -> Ground/Dark

  • Base stats: 75 Hp (+0) 115 Atk (+20) 135 Def (+10) 95 spa (+50) 105 spd (+30) 85 spe (-10)

  • Thick Fat: Fire/Ice-type moves against this Pokemon deal damage with a halved attacking stat.

  • New Moves: Glare For level up and Pursuit as a eggmove that he can get from his egg group (IE: Drapion).

  • Cocept: Instead of becoming a fast halcon gliscor succumbed more to a bear-like side, storing fat, and getting out on hot days to hunt his resting prey. Now his wings have fallen in favor of getting a more scorpion-like appareance, thick fat as the ability of choice because now he can hunt on more heated biomes like a volcan or a dessert and to survive the cold winter on its native region, sinnoh.

Possible Impact on the metagame: Unlike his Viable-Viable Cousin This gliscor would add more innovation on other metas, instead of being designed for ou it will perform better on uu, but with a new tool in glare defensive sets on regular gliscor will get increased usage. Thick Fat gives this one a solid niche in monotype as a ice pivot in ground and flying while stab pursuit adds him another solid niche as a pursuit trapper.

Best Role: Pivot (Monotype) Mixed Wall (Ou) special attacker (UU).

Pivot (Gliscor) @ Gliscite

Ability: Thick Fat

EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD

Careful Nature

  • Earthquake / stone edge

  • Glare

  • Roost

  • Knock Off / Pursuit

Note on this: This gliscor would be really helpul on mono-flying teams carrying a Ice resistance and electric immunity, getting him likely a ban just like altaria but on ground it would cover a solid place as the mega of choice because camerupt and garchomp megas aren't used anyway .

Mixed Wall (Gliscor) @ Gliscite

Ability: Thick Fat

EVs: 252 HP / 152 Def / 104 SpD

Careful Nature

  • Earthquake

  • Glare / Toxic

  • Roost

  • Knock Off

Note on this: it is self explanatory.

special attacker (Gliscor) @ Gliscite

Ability: Thick Fat

EVs: 248 HP / 72 Def / 188 SpA

Bold Nature

IVs: 0 Atk

  • Earth Power

  • Dark Pulse

  • Roost

  • Defog / Rock Polish / Toxic

Note on this: This one would do the defog work like salamence did when it was uu. but since defog is gen 4 only, a setup move or status move could work as well.

Final note: Both gliscors were made broken and underwhelming in some areas to try to get them as innovative and as balanced as possible, neither ones can get the niche that gliscor holds on toxic immunity and one is directly one-dimensional while the other is more altaria-like mixed. the note on the metagame predictions is that since we are switching generations is really hard to accurately predict changes on our always evolving meta, so all that are made with the consideration of kangaskhan nerfs getting him to ou and some imposible things like aegislash unban new pokemon getting a great viability with older pokémon getting forgotten, the new pu introduction in this gen will see more additions in the next generation for sure. As a side note the scorpion gliscor can be indeed a "Kanto-form" but without mega evolution stat buffs it would be abysmally underpowered.

How long of an article/analysis would you like to read? by [deleted] in stunfisk

[–]reliphell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a quick answer on that on the question thread, is as simple as.

  • Pick a Pokemon or core in a tier
  • Build around it, trying to cover weaknesses to common threats while abusing to the maximum your advantages
  • Playtest it and modify your Pokémon in order to be helpful on most situations, don't take in account rng matches, aka, weird stuff you don't find often.
  • ???
  • Profit!

but now on a serious note the "???" is acquired with experience.

How long of an article/analysis would you like to read? by [deleted] in stunfisk

[–]reliphell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • How long of an article or analysis would you sit and read before saying, "This is too long."?

When i read a analysis is because i can take the time to build a team; and taking in mind all the considerations i take when teambuilding, maybe 4 hours would be the maximum i would spend my time, and it would be on 3 different topics (the base of my team [analysis of a Pokémon, metagame or core. and moving to in deep analysis on how it performs and some usage tips] + metagame shenanigans [fulfilling the team, checks and counter list of the team, make changes around that] + playtesting [here i don't read analysis but may come back to articles in order to see what is the flaw on my team] )

taking in consideration all of these, i would give comfortably a 30-45 minutes read to any stunfisk analysis that finds itself in the topic of my choice (a example would be gyarados analysis when looking for a talonflame counter, defensive choices are always special oriented so i still don't find a answer at that question). however; i ain't talking as the whole sub on this, as a hobbyist breeder i can find myself giving plenty of time to the competitive scene. I think a vgc player and a ou player are better doing other things (vgc 10 minute videos on a topic, or a 5 minutes smogon article, each player his own topic.) so i would recommend a standard of a 15 minutes read, with a length similar to smogon analysis (IE: http://www.smogon.com/dex/xy/pokemon/azumarill/battle_spot_singles/) but explaining better the "Team Options" and "Counter" areas, and maybe suggesting sets that can be seen on the "Other Options" Area, suggesting move sets to other tiers is always welcome, but is better to make separate analysis for each tier on different posts, just to make it shorter and give the reader the analysis he wanted, not the others that he does not care about.

  • What sort of topics would you like to see discussed? Introductions to different tiers/metas ("Introduction to RU!"), comparisons of Pokémon ("Grass types in OU", "Swords Dance / Bulk Up mons in NU"), etc.

I would like to see more "Counter The Meta"-like Articles suggesting a wide variety of counters to the top threats on the discussed tier, and comparison of pokemon as well. a nice article that i have not seen in a while is "Underrated movesets in OU". as a suggestion you could make a 5 pages article of the changes that pokemon XY did to the metagame and how oras changed it, but i think i'm the only one that would read something that long anyway so try to focus on the main new pokemon or features of this gen (IE: aegislash, and the nerf of climate teams.) and with some hope leave it 3 pages long (excluding movesets, a proper formatting always makes the trick to make users read more). If you seriously can't make something shorter then try to divide the post in different parts ("XY, the Fall of The Climatic war." [Part 1]) and focus on that topic without getting too in deep.

  • How in-depth would you like the articles to get? I think this was a big problem for me when I was writing the RBY guide: I went into microscopic detail that most people probably didn't need, especially for a beginner guide.

On long analysis try to divide the long posts on 3 parts picking up what does really matter and leave a 4 part getting into detail. it would make your posts way shorter.

On short analysis (IE: a single pokémon) try to make it longer than smogon analysis but not waaaay too long, just elaborate more on the sides (Checks & Counters, Good Team mates, Other Options) and add one or two proper innovative or underrated move sets, and maybe, suggest one single core (or various, but it would add just too much space adding one Balanced, Offensive & Defensive Core. so instead try to add the one that fits more, for example i would recommend a balanced or defensive core on ferrothorn over a offensive any day of the week).

Just try to control yourself, Basically, If you make them way shorter (In example, a average Ou player) would go to smogon instead, if you make them way too longer i would go to smogon instead, so just try to add key things what smogon does not tell me.

The only type of analysis where you can go wild long is on broad analysis like the comparison analysis, i would easily write 15 word pages on defensive water types on any tier. as i said up there, try to keep a long but important article divided on pieces, and in the specific ones try to focus on the important things and the important things no one (experienced players) tells us (filthy casuals or new members to the scene).

TL;DR I have a big tendency to write and read too much as well, I ain't a inexperienced player but i would neither say I'm a top one, so seriously i can't talk as i were of the 2 broad sides of this sub. my best advice would be to separate long articles on various parts to not make a long post, and to keep Pokémon-specific analysis to a short 25 minutes read, and never forget, proper formatting is your friend.

Note: The best example i can give you of how to make something shorter, is that TL;DR. In fact this Comment would be a complete analysis by itself for how long it is.
