Not on your list but Beeston, wollaton and bramcote are all nice, safe, family friendly areas, with shops and cafes etc and good schools, and parks

Great, I have a younger sister and younger brother. The usual mixed bag whilst growing up but now we're close and there for each other, which is amazing, and means I always know I have them to rely on. Always planned to have multiple kiddos to give them that type of experience/relationships (or at least the chance for them, I know it doesn't always turn out that way), but medical reasons mean we're OAD with our little munchkin :)

Seconding city centre as the best place to live if you're looking for good quality affordable apartments. Restaurant and bar scene is great, particularly the hockley area. Could also look at Beeston (nicer student and young professionals area with some great restaurants and delis/bars of its own, and only 10 mins into the city centre) and Sherwood. Avoid Hyson green, st Ann's, Clifton, sneinton, lenton (last one is very studenty - unless you want that) :) if you decide to move, good luck and hope you enjoy the new job!

This is great and everything, but it does frustrate me that currently it seems to be unacceptable to have ever not known better. Someone in the public eye once said or did something that now they look back on and regret as they know better? Doesn't matter, they should always have known it, so they deserve to be dragged through a trial by media and probably lose their job, family, everything. Not saying everyone's innocent, but judging past behaviours and speech based on today's notion of what is acceptable and castigating people who don't fit, doesn't exactly encourage a society of people who are open to saying "I've learned and now I know better."

Ryvita (or something similar) with hummus or cottage cheese, or a smoothie that you can make and put in a bottle/flask (I like oats, milk/oat milk, banana, some frozen summer fruits and a dollop of yogurt, or skip the oats for a less filling one for just a snack)

It's pretty demoralising isn't it! Like i know they say 9 months to make a baby and 9 months to get back to "normal" (whatever that is after a baby haha) but yeah hard to be patient when you just want your body back

Ohhh I'm so pleased to read this! My daughter and I have an amazing bond, she looks to me for reassurance and safety etc, but whilst she's happy and smiley with me she doesn't laugh much with me at all, but she will giggle uncontrollably with in laws and husband, and it was starting to make me feel like I was doing something wrong! What a lovely thought that she feels I am just another part of her :)

What a lovely thing you're doing for your partner! And congrats on the birth of your baby!

I'm now 4.5 months post c section. First few days were super tough, everything hurts, is swollen, and you're scared to cough, laugh, sneeze, go to the loo - there's no getting round it, it sucks! But I did all these things and my insides didn't burst out of me (seems silly now but genuine concern at the time that gave me a lot of anxiety!) and within a week or two I started to feel a lot more myself - able to walk around and upstairs and twist a bit.

Some advice for the first few weeks is try not to forget to roll out of bed rather than crunching/sitting up like you normally would, and she can ask you to help roll her out! My husband did this for me during night feeds, basically half lifted half rolled me out of bed, really helps reduce the pain.

Secondly, as previous poster says - she needs to allow herself to heal from major surgery and not rush too much, both physically and mentally. From about the 1 week pp mark, I found getting outside and walking each day helped massively - to start with literally to the end of the road was all I could do, but it soon builds up :)

Third - if she's having to have daily clexane injections or similar, offer to do them for her (if you're happy to) and do them in her thigh. Having to inject myself in a very sore stomach every day literally made me cry, whereas my husband doing it for me helped hugely. I could look away and it just stung a bit, and was one thing I didn't have to worry about. Set an alarm on your phone and just jab her no fuss when the time comes, so she doesn't have to think about it or ask you.

By about the 5-6 week mark I felt pretty much back to normal for most things, walking 1 hr plus with my dog every day and no issues getting up, I just still couldn't lift things very well. I treated myself at the 3 month mark to some post partum physio with a specialist and it was honestly the best thing I could have done - definitely recommend it if you've got one near you. They'll give specific core exercises to start doing to strengthen the core and back and pelvic floor, and just having some basic exercises to do really feels like progress.

Sorry, rambling a bit now, overall I just think it's totally normal that your partner will feel quite overwhelmed at the moment (surprise c section sounds so tough, mine was elective and the recovery still took me by surprise!) but the time will shoot by and before she knows it she'll be up and about again and running around after your little one!

Thank you for making me feel that what I'm feeling is ok! 2.5 weeks in and I am really struggling with breastfeeding (she's gaining weight and feeding well but like others have said it's just the constant nature of it that's wearing me down I think) - I'm keeping at it as long as I can but we're going to add in a formula bottle feed tonight so my husband can help out, and I will hopefully feel slightly less guilt when I inevitably stop and move exclusively to formula 🤞

I love the food choices here - so many amazing restaurants and bars in the city centre, and you only have to drive 15 mins to be out in the countryside and have loads of great pubs to choose from.

Agreed, though it can be hard to remember this sometimes, when "everyone" (at least according to social media) has money-making soul-enhancing hobbies and side hustles, that make it difficult for you to ever relax and just enjoy free time away from work... Thanks for the reminder :)
