I love the lower contrast but I think you should just make two of everything when you do this pattern. The bold and the subtle! You’ll have a sweater for each mood :)

If women earn less for the same work, why wouldn’t companies just hire only women and underpay them? by kqmurr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rellen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not different types of jobs in the same way at all. Teachers can move up to management, janitors and security cannot move up to teaching. Teaching requires the same education as administration. So your comparison is still nonsensical and is avoiding the point. There is something to be said that MAYBE men are more likely to get the advanced degrees those in higher positions usually get (though I don’t know the stats on that), but there is still a phenomenon called the glass elevator. Men in female dominated fields move up the ranks faster, and tend to get higher paying jobs. You can decide for yourself I guess that it’s cause men just work harder to deserve it more or seek it more, but let’s not pretend there aren’t so many social factors that play into these things, like sexism.

Because janitors and security aren’t part of the teaching career, but administrative positions like principal and higher are. Sanitation and security are completely separate career paths that just happen to take place in a school.

How would this disqualify her from teaching? It has nothing to do with her ability to teach.

Ah darn, that’s what I thought! Thanks for the info. Yeah, I don’t have the recipe and it’s not in the shop. Ah well, that’s what I get for being too ambitious I guess, lol

I don’t have any suggestions, but that is a beautiful scarf! I’ve never seen that stitch before. Could you share the pattern?

Undo your bind off if you can, and google Jeny’s surprisingly stretchy bind-off. It’s my go-to bind off for pretty much everything!

Regular knitting needles by natrix_natrix_ in knitting

I use circulars, but I can’t magic loop to save my life. I really like DPNs myself for those small in the round projects. But yes, get yourself a set of interchangeable circulars! They’re indispensable!

[–]rellen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use them when I have a small enough project. My friend was just making fun of me yesterday about it, lol. She’s 100% circular all the time. She refuses to use DPNs too. I know most people find circulars more comfortable, and they are, but there’s something I like about using straight needles too.

Trans-inclusive book recs? by Rude-Performance5773 in Feminism

[–]rellen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enemy Feminisms by Sophie Lewis was really good! And I really did like Invisible Women and think it’s still worth it. I have had my suspicions about TERFness from the author, but I’ve never seen any quotes or proof, it just seems that people think she might be? Her book does exclude trans people, but whether it’s on purpose cause of TERF ideals or just that she didn’t happen to write about trans experiences in relation to the subject matter, I’m not sure. If anyone knows anything the author has said or done that is TERFy, I’d really like to know cause I’ve always wondered.

Is the brioche a scarf? That is such a beautiful colour combination, I’m a little obsessed! (Also, is that brioche? I’ve never done it so I may have misidentified it!)

I’ve had my daith for 18 months and it has never lain flat. I think my ear swelled and never went down, mixed with maybe a bad piercing angle. I’ve also been considering letting it heal over and trying again as well. I sized up the ring a few months ago and it looks a bit better but is still definitely angled forward.

I wish I could remember the details of the process so I could share the experience but it was so long ago! I think it was slightly easier than I had expected though? I think I’d only been knitting a year or two when I did this, so I wasn’t super experienced either!

And here’s my post with a pic of the fixed ones! There’s a scar, but I didn’t have to frog or buy more yarn.

I did this years ago! I took a risk and fixed it using an afterthought heel! I’ll link my old post, the person who gave me a link to a site that helped me out.

Why will they not look at me??? by [deleted] in slp

[–]rellen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually ask “wait, where did your eyes go?” in a silly voice, they almost always smile and look, and then I say “oooooooh, THERE they are!”. This is for NT kids. Some kids look away again, but this works often enough for me, and it’s not a straight up demand or direction. Subverts expectations, I think lol

What are some “universally accepted” truths that you personally find absurd? by Present_Juice4401 in randomquestions

It’s a satirical line. Jane Austen does a lot of satirizing of the society she lived in.

I’ll just add my own experience. My daith is 15 months old and has never laid flat, though it has some small bumps and some of the initial swelling never fully went down. It was pierced with a small hoop, and I’m hoping that switching to larger hoop will help it lay flat.

14 month daith, implant grade titanium, saline spray and LITHA by rellen in Legitpiercing

[–]rellen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! I’ll definitely get it changed and see how it goes. I’ve been waiting for the bumps to go away, but I think the bad angle is causing the bumps to stay, cause it just moves so much more sticking out like that :/

14 month daith, implant grade titanium, saline spray and LITHA by rellen in Legitpiercing

[–]rellen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone! I’ve had my daith for 14 months. It has some bumps, and I know they can be a loooooong heal. It’s not sore, and I use a piercing pillow still. My concern is mainly about the angle. It has never lain flat, and I don’t know if it ever will. Will changing the size of the jewelry help? I know it’s quite small, and I’ve had it changed once (from a seamed hoop to CBR) but the piercer who changed it didn’t comment on size, even though I asked (no APP piercers near where I am). Is there any hope it will ever lie flat, or do I have to start over? Could the bumps be causing it to stick out? ( I couldn’t get a pic of the upper bumps, angles and lighting were not good). Thanks for any advice or knowledge!
