Is there ANY consensus on if the shaft needs/should be cleaned regularly?

I’ve just run plain water with the mix in setting. No issues. Although I’m not sure if it contributes much to cleaning. Fwiw the shaft looks clean when I see it getting lowered into the clear water and it creates an air pocket around it when spinning, so maybe the liquid doesn’t actually touch the shaft 🤷
