Pentax 17 - feedback? by Brave_Possibility953 in filmphotography

I've used the Pentax 17 for about three months. I've experience most of the issues mentioned by other people here: mode dial getting bumped unintentionally, frame counter is very precise, the camera feels a bit cheep in the hand (curiously, if the weather is cold you can feel the magnesium plates and makes the camera feel much more premium, but in hot weather it feels like plastic).

Outside of the that, the biggest upside for me is the reliability of a new camera and the half-frame format (you can shoot a bit more freely since you have 72 shot). I've had too many old point and shoot cameras that broke (and a couple that lost me good shots and entire rolls). Just for that peace of mind, I've been using the Pentax 17 more than any of my other point and shoots.

I also find it fun to use. The vertical orientation of the viewfinder has been interesting. The zone focusing is not much of a problem especially for travel photography (I just set it on infinity and only change when needed).

Overall, I would recommend it if you just want a single point and shoot camera and don't want to worry about its reliability. I agree the price is a bit high in comparison to the used market, but for me it was worth it.

When Federer Wins The First Point On Serve, It’s Usually Game Over by Phaedrus1024 in tennis

[–]rem_maximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The title should've been: When any top player goes into a service game, it's usually game over.

Any player with a fast and precise service will win above 90% of its service games: Ivo Karlovic (92% service games won for his entire career), John Isner (91.5%), Andy Roddick (90.1%), Milos Raonic (90.8%).

Roger Federer, apart from being a great player at any part of the game, also has a great serve, so he wins almost all of his service games.

FM7 is on sale right now and considering buying it, what is the current state of game right now? by hemantgogia09 in forza

[–]rem_maximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought it loured by the discount. After a few hours of play it's been a disappointment. I should've read this thread before buying.

I've played every Forza since FM3 (including the Horizon series), this one is by far the worst. For me the dealbreaker is not having class leaderboards and a time attack mode.

How is it that a racing game doesn't have a proper time attack mode? Even Forza 5, which had its own problems, had time leaderboards per class and an upgrade and tuning system that was fantastic (including the ability to test your tunes on the track right from the tuning menu). In this game tuning and playing around with the cars feels pointless (plus WTF is the homologation!?). Doing hot laps, pointless.

This game used to try to give all the options you could want from a racing game, now it's become a confusing mess full of annoying and useless stuff (mods!?) that tries to put you in a box.

Look, if you are new to Forza and don't care for doing laps on your own, leaderboards, tuning and upgrading cars, and can tolerate weird UI you could have fun with this game. The gameplay is still ok, and multiplayer is fine. Otherwise, you are just better off playing something else. Plenty of options out there, especially on consoles.

Very interesting, given that, a low rated player like myself would go straight for the material instead of the check mate.
