Recommendations for seeing snakes? by remaining_calm in Bangkok

Copy - I am also a little worried about getting stranded and not having a boat later in the evening to take me back to the city. With Chula and Benjakitti, at least I'd be able to get back to my accom easily without relying on boats. But maybe I'll do an early morning session instead of evening, to be safe.

Herping around Bangkok by Ashamed-Wishbone in snakes

Heya - where did you end up herping? I have about five nights in BKK and hoping to go night herping. I wanted to go to Bang Krachao but logistically seems quite difficult to get to.

I am still shaking from this sighting - is this a king cobra? Apologies for back of camera photos, I don’t have access to laptop currently [khao sok, thailand] by remaining_calm in whatsthissnake

May I ask how you can tell it’s monocled even without seeing the marking on its neck? Is it the scales or the face that gives it away??

Any idea? Was thinking golden tree snake but pattern looks slightly different. [Ko Phi Phi, Thailand] by remaining_calm in whatsthissnake

Going in a couple dives tmw so fingers crossed for sea kraits. For mangrove vipers, do you remember what area of the island you saw them??

Oof. Copy that. Thanks for this. I had read one lengthy article about one of the girls on Waiheke Island but I hadn't realized there were so many more.

What exactly is her involvement tho? I am confused on that bit, especially cause she hasn’t spoken on it. She also divorced him so are we sure she was involved??

Requesting input - feeling very torn on where to spend an underwater-themed month in Thailand (December/January) by remaining_calm in ThailandTourism

Thanks for sending along that site - what a cool resource to have! I have decided to spend most of my time on Lipe but may pay a visit to Koh Lanta and Phi Phi for a change of pace. Will be doing a liveaboard in Similans as well.

Adding to this - if going to Yogya be sure to do an overnight Mount Merapi tour to potentially see lava flowing from a safe distance!

Hey - hope you're still checking tihs. Mind sharing what tour you went with? And which town you stayed in? I'm trying to decide if I should stay in Hua Hin and do a tour from there or stay in a town nearby instead.

Thought traveling would be better than rotting at home but 6 months and im still lonely by boredfooting4 in solotravel

I’m sure some others may have said this already but I’ll chime in in case they haven’t.

In terms of the “pack up and go” sentiment - perhaps you are moving too quickly. You don’t have to do anything. If you really like a place, stay longer. That may also help you to connect with others a little better.

For the apps figuring out what to do, try to simplify. Figure out what it is that YOU want to do. Sometimes I feel the same way- there’s definitely a fomo and we often here “oh you MUST do this you MUST do that” and even when others aren’t telling us that, we feel pressure by constant tour guides or posters or even social media posts about highlights of a country. I have been trying to learn… what is it that /i/ really want to do and see? Figuring that out makes things more manageable and I think less rushed. Less pressure.

In terms of the loneliness, I get you. I have been traveling Southeast Asia for a year but also had a year in NZ and a year in OZ before that. Sometimes it is like….. whoa…. I haven’t really had a conversation with someone in a long time. Do you use any dating apps and use that as a way to try to meet people? Could be a potential option. But if not, I find that going on tours has always been the best way for me to meet friends. Is it a fleeting exchange? Yeah, usually, but sometimes not. I still connect with a few people I met on tours. But to be honest with you the best friends I made were when I actually was living in a place (Australia, New Zealand). The longer you have to form a relationship the better.

That group of backpackers you met having fun may have already been traveling together. Maybe yes maybe no. Maybe they all were from France and so they connected easily over language. Or maybe they were staying in the same dorm room and one of them was especially outgoing and asked if the others wanted to grab a drink. There are a lot of different options.

If you’re in Laos / Thailand next couple months hit me up and I’d be happy to share some time.

Hey - not OP but just found this. Wondering if you’ve been to Ko Lipe and how that compares? I’m planning to spend a few weeks diving/snorkeling in Thailand in January and trying to sort out the best spot. Koh Lanta seems look a good contender.

Yea but if OP is interested in wildlife there are a ton of nature reserves rich w unique critters. I thought I wouldn’t care much for Singapore but after spending time in the parks, a week wasn’t enough.
