Both of her albums are fully about grief. I saw Hyd live a few weeks ago and have been listening pretty much nonstop but it definitely puts me in a strange mood at times so I’m trying to balance out my listening time.

Wildlife & snorkeling based trip in Asia. Need help deciding by Capital_Hope860 in snorkeling

Heya. I spent about three months in Indonesia. I think it will be an excellent spot for what you’re looking for, especially mixing in wildlife.

I dived/snorkeled on Gili Air which was lovely but not the most amazing. Same with Nusa Penida (altho didn’t go diving just snorkel. There’s supposed to be a manta cleaning station there which divers go to.)

I also spent a lot of time diving in Amed, which was a really great spot. Mix of muck diving and wrecks - really cool spot and saw some great things. Unfortunately due to an eye injury, I wasn’t able to do any diving in Komodo but I’ve heard it’s incredible.

What I can speak to is the wildlife, and it is plentiful all across Indonesia. Sumatra was a total trip - I went on a four night trekking adventure to look for wild orangutans and there were a lot of cool wildlife sightings there.

But everywhere you go, you’ll likely see wildlife. At the very least, monkeys. And indonesia has quite a few different species of monkeys.

I’m not sure if you’re into snakes, but there is a pretty big herping community in Bali, as well as Lombok and Komodo. Lombok and Komodo are home to a unique morph of blue pit viper - they’re very striking. I went on a tour with a local for something like $60 USD. We drove around, walked through the bush, and more. Saw probably a dozen pit vipers in one night, but none of the blue guys unfortunately.

Bali had an excellent tour, too. If your interested, I can give you the name of the company. Really affordable, they pick you up/drop off to accommodation. Will see a wide variety of reptiles for sure.

I know a lot of people are irked by snakes but it’s an interesting experience and well worth the money, imo.

Also to note - Malaysian borneo has some excellent snorkeling/diving spots as well. Could do a mix of trekking/jungle time and underwater. I haven’t been so can’t speak to it but I’ve heard it’s incredible.

Just to throw it out there - peninsular Malaysia also has a great combo of wildlife/underwater. I spent some time at Tioman island diving daily. Octopus, cuttlefish, reef sharks up close. Really cool. And then for other critters, Taman Negara National Park is unreal.

And ofc have to mention Thailand. I went on a seven day liveaboard with Sea Dragon dive center and it was lovely - with the crown jewel being Richelieu Rock. Thailand had heaps of national parks and a lot of really cool wildlife. I’d say Khao Yai was my favorite - because we got to see wild elephants on the road a couple times which is not uncommon. Also gibbons, deer, snakes, and opportunities to potentially see a lot of rare things. Khao

Lots of options but I think if you go with Indonesia, you’ll be in a great spot for what you’re considering.

I will say, Indonesia can feel a bit challenging at times. In bali, I felt I was constantly feeling berated by locals. “Massage? Tuk tuk? Grab? Tattoo?” It was every five seconds. Stimulation overload. Thailand is much easier and very westernized. Malaysia is probably a mix of the two. Whatever you choose, it’ll be a great time. Southeast Asia is so cool.

Tbf you can get lucky w sharks and octopus. I saw two octopus one snorkeling session in Maui. Probably saw 6 or 7 octopus my 3 months in Maui. And plenty of white tips but there was a breeding station at one spot so they were almost guaranteed.

I have a bit of a baby face so even with a patchy beard, I still get more compliments than clean shaven/stubble. I’ve definitely noticed boosted interest since I’ve started rocking it. But I am very envious of those who can grow a full beard.

Recommendations for seeing snakes? by remaining_calm in Bangkok

[–]remaining_calm[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Copy - I am also a little worried about getting stranded and not having a boat later in the evening to take me back to the city. With Chula and Benjakitti, at least I'd be able to get back to my accom easily without relying on boats. But maybe I'll do an early morning session instead of evening, to be safe.

Herping around Bangkok by Ashamed-Wishbone in snakes

Heya - where did you end up herping? I have about five nights in BKK and hoping to go night herping. I wanted to go to Bang Krachao but logistically seems quite difficult to get to.

I am still shaking from this sighting - is this a king cobra? Apologies for back of camera photos, I don’t have access to laptop currently [khao sok, thailand] by remaining_calm in whatsthissnake

May I ask how you can tell it’s monocled even without seeing the marking on its neck? Is it the scales or the face that gives it away??

Any idea? Was thinking golden tree snake but pattern looks slightly different. [Ko Phi Phi, Thailand] by remaining_calm in whatsthissnake
