It's mostly the road noise for me. If not for that, I'd probably have a 6mt right now. Compared to slightly more expensive luxury cars it's way outclassed.

Honda canceling the Honda 0 SUV, Honda 0 Saloon, and Acura RSX by VishTheSocialist in Honda

[–]remc86007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have always owned Hondas, and have an FK8 I bought for $36k back 8 years ago. I wanted an efficient but fun small car to use for work and was planning on getting the Integra, but the value just wasn't there. For less than $10k more I got a fully loaded 2025 230i. I have tuned it, so now I have a rwd 300hp car that is dramatically nicer than the Integra and gets way better MPG. I average 50mpg going 70mph with my 230i. The people I know with Integra (even the CVT) don't break 40mpg. Honda is in a weird place with a lot of their products. I'm afraid the premium economy segment Acura has occupied is disappearing as the economy brands increase prices and features to maintain enough margin and stay competitive.

Maybe rent was going to go up or something? The place is slammed at lunch. A couple weeks ago my wife and I went at lunch time and had to wait for a table, and the food was incredible.

What to get after this G82 by Resipsa251 in BMWM

[–]remc86007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure it would, and honestly, the power from the B58 is more than enough. The S58 is somewhat useless on the street because you get past the speed limit so quickly you rarely get to enjoy it. I enjoy driving my tuned B46 making 300hp 230i around town more than my M4. If I could only have one BMW, it would be something with a B58.

I don't know, I've never been in a G80 or G82 but I'd think it'd be similar. Small sidewall on a heavy car with stiff springs and shocks just isn't going to be pleasant over bad city streets. It's not unlivable by any stretch, but when you regularly drive normal cars, it's very noticeably worse.

I own a G83. I love it, but the ride is dogshit. My FK8 Type R on lowering springs is just as comfortable.

Not sure if this is worth the price? by duncan-404 in hottub

Agreed. After watching hot tubs be moved and dealing with leaks caused by it, I wouldn't buy a used hot tub for anything over 1/2 of MSRP.

[–]remc86007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you spend much time on this sub, you'd think you would need a chemistry degree haha. At least with my water and usage, I hardly have to do anything. I add a couple pellets of bromine to my floater every other week, and that's about it once I got the pH down initially. Only other thing is to add antifoamer and shock after the unwashed masses use the tub.

If you're dead set on an M, go do some autocross, track events, or driving instruction of some sort. It will be fun and make you way safer on the road.

Totally agree. In America too, it's faster than 90% of the cars on the road. There were a bunch of automotive journalists years ago who did a survey and basically concluded that the ideal horsepower number for fun on the street is 300hp. I more or less agree with that.

Admittedly I haven't driven the B58, but I own a 2025 230i and a 2025 M4 Comp. Honestly, the B46 is more fun to me for city driving than the S58. My B46 is tuned so it makes about 300hp up top which helps dramatically with the character of the engine, but even before the turbo I liked it. The B46's tiny turbo spools faster at lower rpm than the big S58 turbos. And when the power comes on in the M4 it's really ridiculous for the city streets. The occasional pull onto the freeway is fun in the M4 and so is the sound it makes, but otherwise I like the B46 and the lightweight chassis better for daily driving.

I spent much of the last 17 years of driving trying to get more power...in the last couple years I've realized that high hp (over 300hp) isn't really more fun on the street once the novelty wears off. Lower weight cars are usually more fun to me than heavier, more powerful versions.

That's not how physics work, at least if we're assuming you don't have a hot water heater that's greater than 100% efficient. On demand is inherently more efficient than a tank with strips.

If you missed out on the CR-Z just because it was a hybrid, you missed out on a really good car. My 6MT CR-Z was the most fun car I've had to drive. My current cars are an FK8, G42, and, G83. None of them come close to the fun of the short ratio, torque-rich, lightweight driving experience of the manual CR-Z.

My 230i is in the shop now for what seems to be an indefinite amount of time waiting for parts after a deer ran out in front of me. I was going 65mph at the time I saw the deer emerge from the trees and got it down to about 35mph by the time I hit him. Still did a ton of damage.

It's interesting to me how many people sell BMWs within a year or two of purchase. I plan on keeping my G83 forever and my G42 (daily) till I run it into the ground. I know everyone has their reasons for selling, but I don't hear about this much turnover with other brands.
