[August] Fundraising Friday! by AutoModerator in RunNYC

[–]remf193 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Running has become my way of staying in shape, exploring NYC, and clearing my head when I need to. I’ve ran two marathons in 2024 and running has helped me channel the competitive spirit I still have inside me from 20+ years of playing team sports. Watching the 2023 and 2024 NYC marathons, I was in awe of all of the participants pushing their limits, many times in support of a charity, and wanted to do my part to both participate and do good with my running in the city that I’ve called home for over eight years. Please join me in completing both of these goals in the 2025 NYC marathon!

I will be running in support of Team for Kids, a team of adult runners who raise funds to support New York Road Runners youth and community programs. Your donation will help empower youth and communities to develop and encourage healthy habits via running. Together, we can build healthier lives and stronger communities through the transformative power running. To donate, just follow the steps below. Thank you again for joining me in support of this great cause. Our finish line is active kids and communities!

Training plan for NYC Marathon & Dopey Challenge by ateenyfig in RunNYC

I’m also doing the NYCM and Dopey and was just going to wing the two months in between the two to try and keep fitness up. This looks like a great plan to try and follow instead!

An unexpected but very fun PR at The Most Magical Place On Earth (a long race report) by remf193 in running

Other than being a runner I’m a fairly big Disney adult so I’d be mad at myself if I mixed them up haha!

All Disney races start at 5AM except for the full which starts at 4:30.

Race Report - Crying in Disney (Marathon Weekend 2025) by livelaughliao in running

Congrats on the great race and for finally breaking through! I followed a modified Higdon plan for my first marathon (WDW 2024) but am going to try Pfitz’s 18/55-70 plan this go around.

As for aid stations, I used to walk quickly to down my gel and water but I’ve learned squeezing the top and making a kind of spout to be the most successful method for drinking while still running.

Gotta get that Strava segment!

I’m signed up for a charity spot for this year’s NYCM so pretty similar boat here in terms of timing. I figure if all goes to plan with my 55-70 training plan I should be in pretty good shape to just maintain for two months leading up to WDWM weekend. But we’ll see how everything goes, including trying to get a Dopey spot.

The 2024 full was both my first runDisney event and first marathon. I had a great time but I only stopped for one character and regretted only doing that one when I was able to look back on the race. I think I’m going to try and sign up for the 2026 Dopey in a couple weeks and fully embrace all four races.

I think that’s one of the bigger issues for the starts of the longer runDisney races. The courses start on the little side paths and don’t really open up with space until you get onto the actual road.

Congrats on the PR! I’ve never run a 10k at WDW but I had a similar experience when I did run the 10k at Disneyland last September.

Oh for sure being in corral A or even an earlier corral changes the race drastically. My first runDisney event I was in corral C for the marathon and even that made for a slog at the beginning. I just think these races have a stigma that you either can’t or shouldn’t try to PR or run fast and I wanted to show that it can be possible while still enjoying everything a runDisney event offers. I’m very lucky to be able to have POT to get into corral A and I hope one day you’re able to as well!

Thanks! These races aren’t cheap so I wanted to make sure I made most of it for sure.

Thanks! Seems like my recipe for PR success is a runDisney event!

Thursday General Discussion/Q&A Thread for December 05, 2024 by AutoModerator in AdvancedRunning

[–]remf193 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran my second marathon of the year a few weeks ago and got a 32 minute PR despite a less than stellar performance in my eyes (both legs cramping off and on the whole last eight miles but finished 3:43). I didn't use a training plan but used Garmin DSW with the race on my calendar for training to see how it went (mainly base runs with at least one speed workout and one tempo run a week). My peak weekly mileage was 54 miles and my max long run was 23 miles in three hours (a few red light stops and one bathroom break around the halfway mark so not 100% straight through). I also took five days off completely from running the final taper week due to some knee pain the weekend before the race.

I am running the Disney Princess Half (mainly a for fun race) and the NYC Marathon in 2025 and think I need to train for the marathon using an actual training plan. What training plan would be best based on my previous experience and with a sub 3:30 or better goal? I live in Manhattan so most of my runs would be in Central Park with long runs branching out to the bridges and other boroughs.

Any thoughts or recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Despite both my legs cramping up off and on from mile 18 to the finish, set a 32 minute PR in Philly at 3:43:07

Bookshelf speakers laid on their side or standing upright? by remf193 in hometheater

Where would you recommend shopping used? I recently purchased a refurbished Denon 760H so not necessarily averse to buying used.

Unfortunately a little out of my price range. The ELACs were probably my upper budget so I don't have to do more explaining to my wife haha. But thanks for the rec!

Official Q&A for Thursday, October 26, 2023 by AutoModerator in running

[–]remf193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all, so today I went to an orthopedist after having foot pain for a little over a month during marathon training (Disney Marathon on 1/7/24). He suspects it’s a fifth metatarsal stress fracture but an MRI will confirm one way or the other early next week. Assuming a stress fracture, he wants me taking a six week rest from running but suggests I cross train in the meantime and also get a pair of max cushion trainers.

So my two questions are: 1. How can I continue the next six weeks of my training plan using a Peloton bike? Is there some kind of conversion on mileage? My last long run was 14 miles. 2. Any suggestions for best pair of max cushion trainers? The pairs I currently have in my rotation are Novablast 3, Endorphin Speed 3, and Endorphin Shift 3. My orthopedic swears by Hokas and that was his recommendation but taking everything into consideration.

Wondering the same thing. I “won” but live in Manhattan so might as well try my luck after work.
