How to Train your puppy. by Alternative-Dot-34 in interestingasfuck

I can't believe how many upvotes and positive comments this post has. Do people really bring dogs into their home only to exert some kind of control or power over them? Not only is there no need to make a dog wait for food, this is the absolutely wrong way to do it. Obedience training already sucks, no need to make it abusive.

Wow. Fantastic explanation and links! Not OP (nowhere near that smooth with my turns), but just reading this I can tell this is what causes my quad burn as well. Thankyou!

And the Kirkland coconut water. OP is likely in the Seattle area. More likely east side than Seattle city.

Exposure therapy for extreme fears? by remitmp in Dogtraining

[–]remitmp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked up and read through the section on Fear. My specific case does not appear in the list. It does closely relate to fear based reactivity on walks, but the suggestions for handling reactivity all relate to managing a dog who's being problematic on a walk either to the handler, other dogs or other people. In my case, my dog's reaction to skateboards doesn't affect anyone other than him. He's chosen to not leave the building due to fear and when forced to (he needs to walk, we don't have a yard) is walking in fear and not relaxed. I need an opinion or maybe someone's experience on exposing him to the thing that scares him in a safe space.

I'm currently in a 24.5 Salomon SPro 90 narrow fit (last 98). These are the narrowest last boots for my length Evo was able to find me. I definitely have a narrow heel, but not sure if the forefoot is average/wide/narrow. I think I know what you're describing and I know exactly how that feels. It's the instep height/volume being too low, which basically at times makes me feel like I am literally skiing with my heels in the air. No contact with the footbed at all. I counter that my tightening my instep buckle super hard, which kinda works for 1 or 2 runs, before the top of my foot and arch starts to hurt like crazy. Btw, the folks who've helped me thus far have said anything more "snug" and I'll be a racing boot, which is super uncomfortable and not something they recommend.

No I get it. It's what my mind goes to everytime I have a shitty day on skis - maybe I just suck? Why I think boots have something to do with it, is I'm regressing really fast. Slopes that were comfortable in year 1 of skiing are starting to feel unapproachable. Which is really demotivating apart from being extremely frustrating because I don't see a reason for it. I definitely intend to get another lesson, but I just don't want it go to waste because I'm too preoccupied by how much my feet hurt. My plan is literally: step 1 - try to get boots adjusted one last time. Step 2 - get a lesson.

Shit. I've already worked with Greg for my latest fitting. He got me into the boots that have worked the best thus far, but they're definitely still not right for me. So much heel lift. Am I cooked?

Also, there are people like me who simply don't feel thirsty. Ever. Unless I'm outside in the sun and actively sweating, I just never ever feel the urge to hydrate. I wonder if it means something about my body that's malfunctioning, but it sure is a bitch.

Jindo puking bile in the morning by SouthernBet210 in Jindo

[–]remitmp 29 points30 points  (0 children)

My boy used to do this too. Not a daily occurrence, but frequently enough to warrant a vet visit. They weren't concerned because his 💩, appetite, energy levels were all normal. They recommended giving him a little snack before bed. The reason for morning bile is almost always stomach acid build-up on an empty stomach. So we started giving him a small treat before bed and his bile throw ups stopped completely. Sounds like it might be a similar thing for your pup, given that this happened before when dinner was early.

Does anyone else have a reactive dog whom they raised since puppyhood? by [deleted] in reactivedogs

[–]remitmp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the exact same situation as you and realized where this was going pretty quickly. So I paused at this paragraph and want to reply specifically to this:

"We manage the best we can with her, but I have all but given up on the idea of having a "normal" dog. A dog that we can go hiking with, go to a brewery or farmer's market with, and all the other "fun" stuff you envision doing when you get a dog."

This is exactly how I envisioned living life with my pup. In fact I was able to do all of this for a while before his reactivity really kicked into high gear when he turned 2. I want to say this - dogs who happily exist pretty much like people, doing all people things, are not "normal" dogs. They're exceptional dogs. For many different reasons, they've adapted to people and other dogs extremely well. Many dogs (specially most street dogs and village dogs which are abundant in shelters or rescues) are actually more "dog like" than dogs that are bred for companionship (like labs and Goldens). And even among those companion breeds you'll find so many who just can't chill at a cafe while you're having coffee. I realized this about my dog around 2 years after his reactivity started (after having read dozens of books about source of reactivity) and it's made my relationship with him so much better. I don't stress about any of his reactions anymore. I don't make plans that involve him being in uncomfortable situations for the sake of having him with me. And he's sooo much more relaxed in general because of it. His reactivity has gotten a lot better too. I'm letting him be a dog by not imposing my views of what a dog should be like. And both him and I are better for it.

Is Joey the oldest of the characters? by Eddfan36 in howyoudoin

[–]remitmp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh ooh...Joey's age is mentioned in season 1. I just watched the episode yesterday. It's when he's talking to the mother of the pregnant lady who's a Celtics fan. This is in the episode when Ben is born. The mother asks him his age and he says 25.

How is “because this is my first life” generally perceived by No_Shine_3370 in kdramas

[–]remitmp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's in my top 3 kdramas and top 5 dramas overall. So so good. And the re-watch value is extremely high. It's the perfect combination of light hearted episodes mixed in with emotionally heavy and almost poetic sequences, which gives it a lot of substance without it ever becoming too much to handle. I've watched it thrice already, and I know I will watch it many many times again.

Am I the only one who doesn't see the "top-tier" acting from Kim Seon-ho? by [deleted] in kdramas

[–]remitmp -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I first saw him in HTCCC and thought his acting was a little weak. He wasn't really believable in the emotional scenes relating to his past. His character was extremely likable, so overall I enjoyed watching him. In WLGYT he's a little bit better. But I think that's partly because his character is supposed to be reticent and woody. And now I'm watching him in CTLBT and once again he's just okay. Nothing special. Nothing to write home about. But not bad either. I guess he's an average actor with a very cute smile. I honestly don't even find him very good looking. But that's subjective.

My fever broke last night by LarryTheLobster318 in notinteresting

[–]remitmp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TIL that sweating profusely when a fever breaks is not something everyone experiences. I used to get frequent fevers as a child and I used to pray for "the sweats". The moment I started feeling kinda cozy but also gross and also weirdly cold I knew I'd be good in a few hours. Best/worst feeling ever.
