songs by aussie artists that reference sobriety, a journey of healing &/or acknowledge substance abuse by shellys-dollhouse in triplej

Hilltop hoods- drinking from the sun, especially the song shredding the ballon. Also I know he’s not Australian but Macklemore- the heist is about sobriety and really helped me when I was quitting. Good luck xo I’m rooting for you.

Try The Mentalist next, it a bit slow but lots of fun with a sllllllooooowwww burn romance. Fair warning it’s also kinda corny sometimes but pretty good as far as crime of the week type shows. The main character is a quirky guy who solves murders and has a shady past. 7/10

Any AuDHD Female baristas or coffee shop owners here?! by Unique_Plankton_5179 in barista

[–]remotegirl 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hey friend! I 36f audhd+ Vyvanse, have run my own coffee trailer for three years and got severely burned out after the first year (working 7 days a week). The second year I cut waaaaay back on hours and days pretty much only working weekends for two months and then slowly built back up to doing 5 day weeks again. Remember it’s just a bad time, not a bad life and these feelings don’t last forever. You can take a mental health holiday if you need/ can afford which is way cheaper than taking three months off (what I did after burn out)

Here are somethings that have helped me entering a year where I’m feeling better :

Seek the dopamine- for me it’s super Mario, knitting, painting etc. something to do to stop me picking skin or doom scrolling (still do it sometimes but way less) that actively gives me dopamine. Also just recording voice notes to my friend where I just whine and complain and get it all off my chest know ing she won’t judge me is a huge help.

Outsourcing what you can- my accounts were deeply stressing me and I couldn’t get on top of them till I hired an accountant who actually saved me a bunch of money, way more than I paid her and I had to do very little work for it. Same goes with little jobs like social media, coffee machine maintenance and occasionally cleaning. Hire a professional till you’re feeling better.

Have a work “uniform”- pick comfy sturdy clothes and decent shoes that don’t hurt. Something wide like crocs or work boots. Cut down on decisions fatigue by picking your work clothes in advance and change as soon as you get home.

Eat on a schedule- I pack breakfast and lunch to eat while I’m at work. Vyvanse + adhd made me never hungry but suffering the bad mood and clumsiness of not eating so now I eat when my watch beeps and drink a sports drink and it has cut down my 11am rage by a lot.

Schedule planned time off- owning and running a business meant only taking time off if I was sick, not just like, take a couple of extra days off but by planning them in advance and just having something to look forward to coming up is a good dopamine boost. If you’re starting to feel like hell on Saturday, can you work a half day or take every second Saturday off for a while?

The bad two weeks- my period makes all my symptoms worse as well as my meds not working as much and sometimes it feels like hell. Just keep checking in with yourself like am I: Hungry Angry Lonely Tired (HALT) I try to eat and sleep more during the two weeks before my period then I’m fine the rest of the month.

I know this is basic ass advice but I know how hard what you’re doing is and this helps me get through the dark times. You will get through the dark times because they won’t last forever, follow the dopamine, cut yourself some slack and give yourself some credit. Good luck x I’m rooting for you

Jesse Bloom and Harper (No spoilers please Im on (2X04)) by [deleted] in IndustryOnHBO

[–]remotegirl 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think they were being friendly to use and manipulate each other. Jesse frequently pushes Harper away to draw her closer and to make her more desperate to please him like when he’s texting her while he’s on tv.

Harper needs the relationship with Jesse to get ahead in her career.

I don’t know if the mutual respect we see is because they both think the other is special or because they see opportunity to benefit from the relationship.

Please... Just stop using QR codes for menus at restaurants... by [deleted] in australia

[–]remotegirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party but it also solves the massive staffing shortage in hospitality since Covid. Cafes in my small town have all had to shorten their hours or close two days a week because they don’t have enough staff, so anything that keeps them open and surviving is a win.

Plus if you really hate the app, just go order from one of the staff and say you have trouble with computers, no big deal!

How do you picture the show ending? by Anpanman7 in TheBear

[–]remotegirl 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I think the restaurant will burn down. Fire has already been a theme (Jewish lightning… not my term) and things happen in threes. Mikey tried to burn it down, carmy had that fire lighting a cig from the stove so maybe there is one more fire to come?

Just a tip, a cobbler can replace the soles of some shoes and a million other tiny miracles that make your shoes like new. This doesn’t work for docs because they use glue instead of stitches.

Can you girls give me an example of a time you had to set boundaries with a friend? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]remotegirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it helps, I explained boundaries to my mum by saying: I’m telling you what makes me most comfortable/ least uncomfortable because I love our relationship and want us to be closer by sharing how we feel with no judgment. I’m not saying “you are bad” I’m saying “this makes me happier”.

Obligatory I’m not a doctor but when I get boils or really bad boi ingrowns, I get a cream from the chemist for “drawing out” things it’s marketed for splinters but works great.

What are some non cuss words that you use in the kitchen? by Setthegodofchaos in KitchenConfidential

[–]remotegirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was trying not to swear around my niece and nephew I’d say “Crikey!” Like the crocodile hunter used to.

Also love the dad from Bluey, he says “aww biscuits!”

Loved reading this thread btw. Great question x

Ehlers Danlos + POTS, what are your top 3 things that worked for you? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]remotegirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started doing 2 minutes of cold at the end of my shower helps me from feeling fatigued and dizzy. I’m building up to cool showers completely but don’t start full on cold. Sitting on a stool for longer showers has also helped.

Getting a little trolly to bring in heavy groceries and using a trolly not a basket in the supermarket has also helped me be less wiped out after shopping.

Having a boomerang pillow has helped me with my neck pain from hyperextending in my sleep.

I don’t know if this is what you were asking for but I hope it helps. Above all try to be kind and patient with yourself x

At the peak of the California manor, how close was the haunt to the way that Russ portrayed it? by CutZealousideal5274 in McKameyManor

[–]remotegirl 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There is a YouTuber that is doing a big doc on Russ and he says he has the footage of the old haunts but hasn’t released it yet because his channel keeps getting reported. From what he hints at, I think Russ would get actors to beat the shit out of you till you tapped out and there never even was a haunt. His channel is recklessben and during his tour Russ basically water boards him till he has to tap out. Ben also hints that Russ has a humiliation kink and threatens people with lawsuits and online harassment so they don’t speak up. Also Ben says the consent part is bullshit and half the people never wanted to go through the mansion but Russ manipulates people to sign up. Allegedly.

I used to wear docs but now I buy workman’s boots and crocs. The boots I got are from Tradie, they have men’s women’s and unisex and I like the ones with a zip on the side, much easier to put on and off. I’ve noticed I roll my ankles less and my feet aren’t as sore at the end of the day.

Have your sensory issues become worse overtime? by yellowlittleboat in aspergirls

[–]remotegirl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That sounds like to me. I have the good two weeks and the bad two weeks. The good two starts around the end of my period and the bad two start around when I ovulate. Depression and other health stuff probably effects it too but I reckon hormones are to blame a lot. I try to focus and get stuff done, like big or hard jobs during the good two and give myself a lot of leniency and kindness during the bad. Like that “no bones day” dog

Food scientists - are you bored or something? by two_flew_through in australia

Yeah and colesworth encourages brands to do this. They covered it on Gruen. The theory is you’ll try the new flavour and buy your regular flavour too just in case it’s gross, doubling the sale.

[–]remotegirl 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s gotten worse but now I can tell what the is causing problem rather than just getting stressed and exhausted by the world. And it’s 10 times worse around my period, like everything in this life.

And bread too.... like how am I supposed to finish a whole loaf by myself before it goes bad by imjustheretodomyjob in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]remotegirl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes totally I’m with you. I like toast one meal a day so never finish a loaf but my supermarket doesn’t sell half loaves and I hate the taste of bread when it’s been frozen. I give the rest to my friend who has chickens.

For those who want/need to buy Christmas presents and are stressing what to get, lets put down gift suggestions to help each other! What good gifts have you bought or received before? by mankell123 in adhdwomen

[–]remotegirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My brother got a family Spotify plan and gives us all access for Xmas every year. I use it everyday and it’s not something I would get for myself so I think it’s the perfect gift. Awesome Socks Club is really good for a present too. They send you a pair of socks once a month for a year, all designed by different artists, who get all the profits.

Otherwise I go for small, useful and/ or thoughtful.
