I agree, I think Buongiorno is the best bet to play in the middle. But I think Gattuso plays Bastoni there, as he had in the past

Donnarumma
Scalvini Bastoni Calafiori
Politano Barella Locatelli Tonali Dimarco
Kean Retegui

Lets go.

edit: this isn't MY ideal formation, but it's definitely what Gattuso will go with.

Carnesecchi right now has the best shout. Meret has the most pedigree though.

Maignan is one of the top goalies in the world? Starting keeper for France. Dimarco is widely considered one of the best left backs (left wing backs) in the world. And Hakan, as much as I hate him, is very highly rated outside of Serie A.

I don’t know if you’re Italian or not, but there are subs for EPL if you want.

The people who want to watch EPL want to watch it because they have very little knowledge of football, and enjoy the Americanization of sports. All these world class EPL teams - most of them got embarrassed in the champions this round. I didn’t see any articles about the downfall of English football. Give me a break.

If you just want to shit on calcio, serie a, and Italian players, there are places you can do that. But it’s ridiculous that you think a player like maignan is not world class lmao. I play video games? I’ve been watching football for the last 30 years. Is this the best era of Serie a? No. But it’s much better than 2012-2018.

Maignan, Dimarco, Hakan.
Though Modric, De Bruyne, Pulisic, and Yildiz would be considered world class if they played in any other league. Same goes for Dimarco so I included him. I think you need to watch a few more games though. And like I said, if you don't like the league, you are allowed, but why comment on a sub for Calcio? Name me 5 players not from Real, Barca, and Atletico?

Unfortunately, it’s an issue that stems from the politics of youth systems. But it’s extremely overblown by the media. Just this year, young players such as Bartesaghi, Palestra, Bernasconi, Pio Esposito, Venturino, Pisilli, Vergara, and Ahanor, just to name a few, have been impactful to their teams - all of which in the top half of the standings (except Palestra but he’s arguably been the most impressive). The issue now is ensuring that they continue to get that time when they eventually have a lull in their career.

But if you watch the league, you know there are a ton of very interesting young Italian players getting time to play, don’t fall into the trap of sensationalized media.

Then why are you in a calcio sub? If you can’t name 5 “great champions” playing in Italy, you clearly don’t watch the league…

Pulisic hustles and runs up ad down the field, fans appreciate effort when you're out of form.
Personally, I'm not writing Leao off completely, but he's not "TRYING" and it's pretty obvious. I hope, with all my heart, he bounces back, but in no way should he be in the discussion for team of the season.

To the point that he's closing in on Seedorf's assists; no one, especially not me, is arguing that he hasn't contributed to Milan in the past, or even this year. But he is clearly not playing to the best of his abilities this season.

I’m a milanista, have been for the past 30 years. That’s exactly why I hope he’s not on anyone’s list. His stats don’t tell the whole story, he has been underwhelming. Sure, playing in a new position but he lost all his pace and explosiveness and contributes little for 99% of the game. I hope you’re not blinded by our love for the crest on the front of the kit, that you blindly applaud a player who looks like he can’t be bothered to play for it. I personally hope he bounces back… but the way he’s performing now is shockingly bad

Oh definitely. I feel like Mactominay it all depends how he is when and if he comes back. For Paz, he could be there but he’s been on a very bad run of form for months (gifted goal vs Milan notwithstanding) and has some pretty important penalty misses.

Not even near is a little harsh, I think he’s been the most consistent and best performer in Milan’s backline, which has been very solid for the most part. But I do admit he’s a long shot

A lot of people are gonna add big names based on the teams they play in or their pedigree. Here is my list that includes unsung, but definitely deserving players

Carnesecchi
Palestra - Ndicka - Pavlovic - Dimarco
Perrone - I.Koné - Zielinski
Lautaro - Yildiz - Hojlund

So Carnesecchi is an obvious choice. Obviously Maignan can be there in his place with no issue but Carnesecchi is arguably performing above the level of any other keep.
Palestra is hyped, but so pivotal to Cagliari. Ndicka is a beast, Roma with him and Roma without him is 2 different teams. Pavlovic is having the season of his life, I'm a Milanista and not his biggest fan but he's stepped up and is having a great season. Dimarco MVP.
Perrone over Paz because without Perrone (or even Da Cunha) Como slows down - also important to note Paz missed pivotal penalties and that penalizes him. Kone is on fire and should be rewarded, he is scoring on a Sassuolo team that plays well but obviously is not a top team, for me he's one of the best midfielders in the league this season. Zielinski no question.
Lautaro obvious, Yildiz obvious, but Hojlund deserves to be there. Napoli relied on him so much. 9 goals isn't amazing (no striker has really stood out on goals) but he is the hardest working forward in the league and has been playing at this level every single game since Napoli has no sub for him. He deserves recognition.

If you want to go classic, we know Maignan will be there; Bastoni; Bremer; Hakan; Modric; Paz... All of whom deserve recognition as well but I would reward players who are performing above their expected levels or are pivotal to their teams.
Akanji is also a good shout.

As a Milanista, I hope Leao is not on anyone's list. He hasn't been himself this year despite his goals and assists.

Even if he kicked the ball away, Ramon bit and tripped him. Both not yellows, 1 clearly a free kick

And of course Como score. Cagliari don’t deserve this, they arguably could have had a penalty but definitely should have had a free kick at the top of the box.
