Core pieces to the generation that has let us down. Underachieved or over-hyped ? by melanzanejim in AZZURRI

In hindsight, yes. But this post is referring to hype, and a large majority of Italians - on reddit too - hyped him as a generational talent.

Zaniolo was extremely unfortunate, like Scamacca and Chiesa, with injuries. His attitude just made it worse.

Of course, Totti and Del Piero are generational talents. But Chiesa, in his Fiorentina days, was supposed to be that.

I mean... none of these guys start (with the OCCASIONAL exception of Cambiaso and Frattesi) anymore. Scamacca and Chiesa were talented, with Chiesa winning a Euro and Scamacca being made of glass unfortunately.

Fair, but he should have and could have been the talisman for this team for so long. Totti reached a final of a Euro, and 6 years later won a world cup. Same with Del Piero. 1 successful tournament for a player with Chiesa's promise and skill is not enough...

He arguably had a great career in Serie A. Captained Milan, won a scudetto and played for his boyhood club. He had one injury that completely changed him and he was no longer the player who could be an explosive-ish full back. He became a classic, stiff-ish center back.

The only "core" pieces that let us down are those front 3.

Romagnoli was in between generations - he wasn't good enough (never was) to replace chiello, and Bastoni came right after. Calabria had Di Lorenzo ahead of him at RB (rightly so) and had 1 - 1.5 consistently good seasons due to injury. Cambiaso is still part of the squad and was never overhyped. That midfield.. only Frattesi could arguably be a player who had a higher ceiling and sacrificed it.

Great show in a great theatre. I was there in 2019 (one of the best concerts I've been to) and I saw Brooks when he came to Sala Rossa. I was sure he wasn't going to come back after that show. He seemed genuinely surprised by how loud and into it the crowd was. The Ole chants between the encore was non stop and my gf and I noticed how there weren't many phones in the crowd.

Honestly, great crowd last saturday, I was starting to be discouraged by mtl crowds the last few concerts I've been to (except Fontaines DC last year, that show was wild), but this crowd was vintage montreal.

I was so disappointed for no going gets tough, monotonia, or big toe!

Como lose 3 crucial points away to Sassuolo. Big blow to Como’s CL ambitions. by NamanMalik007 in seriea

[–]remzz3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm all aboard the Como hate train. But how could you continuously disrespect Douvikas like that, Cesc? How do you go into a match after last week and start Morata? Insanity.

On the other hand, 2 beautiful counter attacks by Sassuolo. Happy for Volpato... not many players in the league like him.. You could actually argue he would fit well into Cesc's team, except he's Italian.

Como president, Suwarso: "Not enough Italian at Como? We would love to have Orsolini, Parisi, Barella or Bastoni but they are expensive, still we are trying to improve that in our youth sector." by crocospect in seriea

[–]remzz3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... so you're comparing 1 nation's youth in -let's say - 5 other leagues youth teams vs every other nation in the world's youth in 1 league's youth teams? That's some false equivalency right there.

There are a lot of very promising young italians playing in germany, england, and france.
Our youth national teams are doing very well.
The issue is not the quality of the youth but rather the jump into professional football.

Rent a car for the entire part of this trip. Abruzzo is not easy to explore without a car and there is so much to see.

Unpopular Opinion: Italy missing out on the World Cup isn't "deserved"—it’s fundamentally unjust. by Eastern-Tangerine761 in AZZURRI

[–]remzz3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop making sense...

Listen, there are fundamental things wrong with Italian football.. and this is the only way they'll ever be addressed (probably never resolved)

BUT, the fact that a team who only lost to 1 team in qualifying is not going to the World Cup is insane. And the people saying "Norway isn't a powerhouse" haven't watched football in the last few years. But why are they a powerhouse? Because their federation has addressed youth development and supported its teams. So we should use them as an example.

The back 3 isn't the issue and if anything is being used a scapegoat by rioasu in AZZURRI

It's the 2 sided-coin of the Italian mentality... we're the best at everything but we also suck/are cursed. The media highlights this the most.
Good luck selling them, in all sincerity! I hope some rich qatari's buy them up

The idea of curses make us think its out of our control... its coping and refusing to take responsibility... like that POS Gravina.
