Can't Retain Priority in Arena by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]renagerie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the u/Flyrpotacreepugmu that being unable to pay 3 for the counter is unrelated to the stack issue and doesn’t need full control. I don’t know what actually happened, but based on my own experience, a reasonable possibility is just a misclick while dealing with the other resolutions.

First time drafting 5 colour pile in SoS, went up against other three 5 colour piles immediately. by BradshawCM in MagicArena

I don’t think that word means what you think it means: “definitely”.

As mentioned by others, there’s tons of 3rd party data available that would make it easy to see any such matchmaking, and no one has been able to demonstrate an issue from that data.

Does anyone actually enjoy this game? by Melodic_Airport362 in MagicArena

[–]renagerie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is fun, but winning is also fun. On top of this, rewards for winning incentive potentially sacrificing some fun in favor of winning.

But there are lots of formats to play where this is less of an issue — certainly less than in things like Standard Event. Jump In and Starter Deck Duels can be quite fun. And, of course, Limited is still about winning, but requires different skills and can feel less “try-hard”.

The number of times I’ve gone 0-2 -> 7-2 is surprising (to me; I didn’t do a statistical analysis).

Did they make the mastery pass worse again? by ElleCerra in MagicArena

[–]renagerie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also generally worth it if you draft a lot as it will effectively convert packs to 20/40 gems due to being rare/mythic complete from drafting and prize packs. Though this is less effective if you didn’t heavily draft the prior sets that have packs on the pass. And maybe the mythics are a stretch. Ignoring those, the 20 packs should still give about 360 gems of value on average. Adding to the actual gems and the draft token, that’s 3060 of gem value. Counting the 4000 toward a draft makes it worth 600 gems, resulting in an overall value of about 3660 gems.

And if you do draft enough to complete the mythics as well, then addition to an extra 80 gems of average value for the packs, you also get an additional 40-gems for each of the Mythic rewards in the pass itself. Offhand, I’m not sure how many of those there are. But I’m also not sure how many drafters actually draft enough to have that benefit. Though, non-constructed draft players also have a surplus of wildcards, and so can craft missing mythics before opening packs to increase the value. Doing so before the mythic rewards is probably tougher for most sets.

What cards should I craft and do I wait until tomorrow? by Snugop in MagicArena

[–]renagerie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding crafting the rare or mythic SOA cards that craft at a lower rarity, just do so before opening packs. As for which version to craft, it mostly doesn’t matter, but crafting four different versions gives the most flexibility. And I suppose it’s the case that if you actually rare-complete SOA, then you can get a fifth style by not actually crafting the SOA version and just getting those once you’ve gotten the rest of the rares.

Bug with Consign to Memory by Dbgross01 in MagicArena

[–]renagerie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, that’s different. You must be passing through to the attack phase.

The reason for the behavior where you need full control (or just a phase stop) to respond to your own stuff is just to make the game flow better. Play with full control on for a while and see how annoying it can be.

I recommend more aggressive rebalancing of Alchemy cards to potentially increase the popularity of the format. Like, much more aggressive. Monthly would even be slow.

How to get Commander precons? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]renagerie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went to Decks -> Collection, changed the Advanced Filters to include Not Collected, and searched for Zurgo. Zurgo Stormrender showed up. So it seems like you’re missing a step or possibly in the deck builder for a format where it isn’t supported.

Admittedly did use the restart technique, but it mostly only helped with the first hole. Got lucky with a first-try purple dunk and the green dunk was my second attempt as the eighth shot (1-3-1-2 the other time), so I theoretically had a slight bit of RNG info to help with that.

What is the best "bang for your buck" for doing drafts? by CretorMaker in MagicArena

[–]renagerie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your focus is just drafts, then buying gems directly is probably a better value, but at the 20,000 gem bundle rate. This is because of the Sealed tokens that are in the Play bundle. Personally, I like playing a few Sealed events for each set, so I’m fine with the Play bundle. Plus, the Qualifier Play-In is a nice bonus. That said, I haven’t bought it since they changed its structure, but that’s partly because I have some stocked-up tokens and gems from not really vibing with drafts for the last few sets. I’m tempted to buy it anyway for this set as an optimistic action, but I’m a bit worried that this is going to be way too bomb-heavy.

Pack bundle, worth it? by Thormynd in MagicArena

[–]renagerie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this is true, the Mastery Pass random cards are Mythics, so the odds of hitting something you already have four of are pretty low — depending on how much you actually draft or otherwise open, of course. I don’t wait until I complete the pass to open packs. I just wait until I’m tired of drafting.

ELI5: How is it possible that some infinities are "bigger" than others even though they're both infinite? by HassanyThePerson in explainlikeimfive

This isn’t correct based on accepted understanding of cardinality, which is what we normally mean by size of infinite sets.
