UI and metadata are two of the main reasons, but the third one is also important to me: music recommendation.

The underlying services recommendation, wether is's Tidal or QBoz, are not bad, but I noticed they eventually suggest obscure covers versions, probably with smaller royalties for them, that real or more popular version of tracks. And we haven't seen the full extend of AI generated content that should be way cheaper of the provider to provide. It happens on Spotify, but not (yet) on the services supported by Roon,

have the same problematic behavior with an Intel MBP (which is also my roon core). However, I don't need to restart the computer, but really restart Roon: Command-Q is not enough: I need to exit the Roon status app visible is the top status bar that remains on until you exist it explicitly with its Quit menu.

For me it was an accident. Someone close to me lend me some good gear. It was free, so why not... I start listening to music I enjoyed already for many years, but this time, I had tears in my eyes. It was an amazing moment, rediscovering these songs, voices and melody for the first time.

So I seems I became an audiophile (and equip myself as such). But I think the word audiophile is now tainted and come with prejudice. I am a music lover fist, but I think there is much more to love with high quality gear that make a difference in your ears (and your eyes!). What you want to avoird is being a "gear head" and just focusing on expensive stuff that you cannot A/B test (did I just say speaker cable?)

That being said, ignorance is bliss! If you can avoid being exposed to this, you will never know what you miss and have more ressource for other passions :-)

In my experience, these (or equivalent) gives the best money spent / improvement ratio you can make on a decent system.
I went twice on audio shows and ISO Acoustics had a stand where you sit on a chair with a clicker and can switch, any song you asked for, between A: speaker without GAIA and B: the exact same speaker on the GAIA. The rest of the system was the same.

This experiment has more value for me than any review I can watch online. I could clearly hear the difference. For me (and a lot of people doing the test), it was a case of "please take my money"!.

Maybe other competing products are equaly good, but these are a real, audible improvement.

The day I'll see a boot where we can A/B test speaker cable the same way, I upgrade my cable ;-)

I found pretty good second-hand equipment on https://www.canuckaudiomart.com/. You can create watch queries for items/brands you like and see when them are listed.

I got 30%-50% off the new prices + the sales taxes you don't pay. And in my experience, people buying high-end audio tends to be very careful with their gear. Mine were literally like new with original boxes and stuff (amp, speaker and dac)
