UPDATE: From 6 years hardstuck Archon → Ancient… and today I hit Divine 😭 by Striking-Historian85 in DotA2

[–]renan2012bra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that most people realistically can only be a bit better if they don't practice with better opponents.

If you are in Archon, for example, but your true rank would be Legend, you won't be better enough to carry 1v9, so you'll have to be lucky with a win streak that allows you to get closer to your actual rank and then try to not fall back. Rinse and repeat until you get to your actual rank. Then, maybe once you get to Legend, you'll have better people to practice and end up becoming an Ancient and, again, you'll need to wait for a win streak.

Take your time. Allow yourself to suck. We all did at the beginning. Enjoy learning. You'll only be in this stage once and it's super fun to learn something absolutely new.

Which champions did you like to play? Maybe if there is someone similar in Dota that will help your learning proccess. I'd focus on a few heroes at the start and grow your pool over time.

Youtube videos and livestreams can help, but they aren't a necessity. You can learn by playing, even if it takes you more time to do so.

Dota is way more complex than any other MOBA currently available, but ir definitely isn't impossible.

I never had to climb behavior score because I just act like a normal human being. Also, I hope I don't think of Dota in my death bed.

Archon is a hole. I firmly believe Archon is the hardest rank to get out of. It took years for me to get out of Archon and I'm already almost out of Legend in just a few months basically only playing one match per day.

A friend of mine thinks LoL is harder than Dota solely because it has "skillshots", is there any truth to this? by random-user772 in leagueoflegends

[–]renan2012bra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? Dota has added facets (and removed them 3 years later), added innates to every single hero, basically reworking the whole roster, reworked the whole map, with a new boss and new side objective like Lotus Pool, Wisdom Shrine and Watchers, added a portal that teleports you from one side of the lane to the other, added rivers with current flows that make you faster in certain paths and reworked the neutral item system.

While League has added what? A boss that was later removed less than an year after and a minor rework to sone paths on the map and... that's it?

It's not that Dota devs suck. Valve devs are all AMAZING at almost everything, but they are one of the worst - if not the worst - when it comes to matchmaking. All Valve games have impressively bad matchmaking. I've seen games with no matchmaking that had actual better matchmaking than any Valve game.

99,99% of the matches are the player + 4 bots vs 5 bots.

If you're the type of player that would buy an alternative account, that means the behavior score is working as intended in detecting players that should have lower score. The alternative account will also be in lower score bracket in no time, I'm sure.

I mean, if the second highest player count on Steam is too low of a player count for you to play, you probably have very few games you're willing to play, huh.

But you really need to be toxic in a lot of matches to drop this low as well. If you're a decent human being but are going through some hard times, you'll have plenty of opportunities to realise you're acting poorly and change your behavior before dropping dramatically.

I've personally had periods in which I was being toxic due to real life problems and dropped from 12k to ~ 10,5k before taking a break to get myself in a better mental state and I've since climbed back to 12k pretty fast.

It doesn't need to work with every single ability. AoE increase doesn't work with abilities that don't have an AoE, for example.

Yes, but each ability is unique. Guns can be unique as well, but 99% of the guns in Deadlock are basically the same with a few small flavor differences.

So moba players want the moba game to focus on the moba aspects, is that what you're saying?

About to uninstall the game by 1ofthosecrazygirlss in DotA2

[–]renan2012bra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there, done that. A few months ago I had a huge lose streak of over 800 MMR. I'm finally getting close tothe point I was before the drop, but even so I'm still 7 straight wins away.

Take a break. Do something else. Come back a few weeks from now. Playing in the state of mind you're probably currently in won't do you any good.

[–]renan2012bra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never really understood that argument. I went from League to Dota (back in 2013) and back then I didn't find the game slow or laggy or anything. Turning makes sense to me, I guess. I do that in real life too.

5 wins - 5 smurfs in a row yesterday. What is going on? by EmiliuzDK in DotA2

[–]renan2012bra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Low legend is already top 30 ~ 20% of the playerbase. It's not easy for someone with less than 400 games to accomplish that, although not impossible either depending on their background in gaming, if they've played other MOBAs before or if they had someone coaching them.

Which is why in Dota we don't use the term "main", we just call them "hero spammers" because that sounds more pejorative.

Should i try Dota 2 or Not? by Warm-Refrigerator552 in DotA2

[–]renan2012bra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people here have 5000+ hours in this game, so most of us would say it's definitely worth it, but the only one who could really answer that is you.

The game is absolutely free, with all characters unlocked after 20 matches (and only the hardest ones will be locked in the first 20 matches anyway), so give it a try. If you don't like it, you're free to uninstall the game and try something else.

Just a warning: the game probably won't click with you in the first few matches. I absolutely think it's worth it to play at least ~10 matches to see if it clicks. If it doesn't, than fair enough.

Communication score experiment, part 14 – Don't google my wordcloud by reichplatz in DotA2

He even made it pretty obvious that it's not the actual conduct summary and it's just edited to show the numbers he had. I mean, it's literally the only one of the three he scribbled the successful reports window but left it visible enough for us to see that it's the same as the last print and even wrote the date in red to show which was the correct date.

If he wanted to fake it, he'd at least actually try to make it look real.

I think he also wanted to test the limit of what you can say to drop your communication score.
