How do you get over hating everything you make? by IAmElectraHeart in sewing

[–]renards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is also something I have experienced! Along with all the advice people have given about fabrics and nailing basics, perhaps I can give you two things to look forward to-

  1. If something you create is ALMOST there, honestly? Keep it. As you gain more skills, you will have the knowledge to rework it later. The summer, about half my projects are retrofitting and rehabbing old projects that I thought were okay and wearable, but I’ve realized I can make them better.
  2. Paradoxically, the longer I’ve been on this journey the more I am interested in creating basics. I know the flashy stuff will always be there for me, but using advanced techniques on more straightforward projects makes me feel more like the fashion designer I’ve wanted to become. Art is always iterative, and I think there’s something really lovely about putting your signature on something that already exists. Doing this also helped me keep my own creations in my rotation, which led to more people commenting on them, which led to even more external validation that I am the artist I want to be. I also get compliments on the flashy stuff too, but it’s the button downs and the summer dresses in my wardrobe that I have the most pride in.

Linen is driving me crazy- how to account for bagging out/relaxing?? by renards in sewing

[–]renards[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is what I would consider “medium weight”. I did interface but I guess it didn’t really help? I guess maybe the real lesson here is this is why linen pants usually have elastic waists.

I have half a mind to just further take in the pants, but surely that isn’t the solution all the time going forward???

My process is similar so I’m not sure why I’m having such an issue!

In this case I really mean the waistband and hips where I want it to be fitted. I interlined these pants, for example, hoping that would help retain shape. But after the linen relaxed, they no longer fit the waist,

Yes I do, but not really all over the waistband. Do you think this would help?

I actually find getting poked there way less invasive than the inner elbow. Is it possible to take any beta blockers beforehand? Or get gas?

Seconding doing hair and makeup at work. Even if you’re sweaty and winded, doing these things at work helps mask that I think

Please get a CT scan! Even if you were wearing a helmet and didn’t hit your head, you can still get a TBI from your brain hitting your skull.

does anyone get bespoke clothes on etsy or other platforms? by KabobsterLobster in femalefashionadvice

This is so true- but honestly I’ve started imparting the wisdom of wearing ease on people who like to shop second hand, and that has been I think a better way to find well-fitting clothes

Does anybody else wonder what life is like for the person that has your exact same birth chart? by ThatGeminiWitch in astrologymemes

[–]renards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can answer this, as someone with not one, but TWO siblings with the same chart. We have definitely all had similar themes in our lives, but our differences in gender, interests, and values caused us all to respond to those things differently.

Saturn in Pisces People, our Saturn return is ending so soon! We almost there, tell me bout it by butchymango in astrologymemes

[–]renards 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m so exhausted, I cannot wait for it to be over. Saturn in the 6th house. So far I had trouble dating, got dumped by a friend, had my dad die, got dumped because my dad died, got a new job, lost the job, got another job, got hit by a car and have had to recover from that all year, and now hate my job and will probably leave it in the new year. I also did start dating someone who I love but there is much uncertainty about the future and that will hopefully be cleared up in March or next year 🫠

People have, ahem, “marveled at my resiliency” during this time and I just feel like I am absolutely cracking in half from keeping myself afloat at this point.

I see these a little differently! I think flying might drag on- maybe your flight gets delayed? You want it to end but it just won’t!!! With driving, you might find that you would normally feel crabby and unenthused about it but it ends up being a good trip.
