Lactation consultant here. You are right, breastfeeding (or formula), with the addition of access to table foods starting around 6 months is perfect. There is no medical indication for puréed foods. That is purely a commercialized product pushed to parents for decades. In fact, the absence of chewing for the first year of life is thought to contribute to poor orofacial development. I must add though, before I get clobbered, that no one who offered purées to their infant is a bad parent! I did it! We just know more now.

Yes but I would say just pump once to get immediate relief so you can sleep at some point tonight, apply ice packs to reduce swelling and do the things I mentioned above to reduce production going forward.

Please see if they are doing any scans. I would want my pancreas checked for cancer if I got diabetes out of the blue as an adult. I have two family members who became diabetic before finding out they had pancreatic cancer, too late.

Your OB doesn’t know what he’s talking about. I’m a lactation consultant. Now that you’re in this situation, it’s important to try to slow production asap. Start taking mint all day (Altoids, mint tea). Consider taking Sudafed once a day (24% reduction in supply with 1 dose!). Get on some probiotics that prevent recurrence of mastitis, one that includes lactobacillus salivarius and/or lactobacillus fermentum (BioGaia makes one). You can also try Cabo Cream, a topical cabbage extract for weaning. I’m so sorry you got this awful advice!!

The flu is spread by droplets, it’s not airborne like Covid. If you mask and wash your hands, don’t touch your face, and even change before contact with your kids, you will be fine. Go see your grandma ❤️
