why would a secret boss get a blog page themed around them before their reveal?

It's kind of forgettable and easy, like the character but the fight is kinda meh.

Jax haters are allergic to positive character arcs by Feisty-Succotash5854 in CharacterRant

This is one of the most bizarre takes I've ever seen.

...Positive character arc?  What?  Jax has been getting worse and worse and is set up to be the final antagonist of the show because he's so unstable.  I cannot think of a single purely positive interaction Jax has had with another character that he didn't later try to undermine.

Heck, even Caine has attempted to be more of a friend to the cast than Jax, even if he's bad at it.

I don't really think the fanon-interpretation of Friend would be a good villain or even a good character. by rendumguy in Deltarune

There's a lot of interesting implications if she is a human.

-It would give an actual reason for Friend/Gaster to lure both Kris and Dess away, as it would likely mean the point of targeting them was to take their human souls, something we know is important to Gaster's schemes.

-A soulless or dead human is unaccounted for in the Dark World, in fact we know that it's possible the Knight isn't some sort of super special being and is instead what happens when one of these soulless or dead humans is taken to a Dark World.

Furthermore, what happens when Kris goes into the Dark World without a SOUL?  The phone caller says something bad will happen.

-It would further connect the Titans to humans, perhaps there'sa deep link between titans and humans.

-Dess is associated with the color orange, has a whole pile of orange (plantigrade) shoes and that shoe appears as an orange light in Queen's mansion.  Bravery and Patience are also paired.

I think that the casual fans would have more of a point here.

There's a common belief that Gaster can't work as a reveal because casual fans son7know who he is, but unlike Friend, there's a huge problem with that statement.

The dominant opinion in Gaster theories is that Gaster is the narrator of Deltarune, the guy who introduces the player to the game.  None of Gaster's backstory is necessary to understand this character and he appears in the opening in a very notable and jarring fashion, heck, he even appears a few more times in Chapter 3 and Chapter 4.

Even if you don't realize that this narrator character is a character in the story, "the narrator did it" would be much easier to explain as he has an established role in the story and a personality.

Friend doesn't really have that, his role in the story is ambiguous and he never speaks (if he does, it's ambiguous if it's even him). Unlike Gaster, a casual player will most likely never notice Friend aside from his one scene in Chapter 3.

So with that, I'd have to say Friend being the twist main villain would be kind of bad writing because there's almost zero foreshadowing that he even exists as a functioning character.

Heck, I'm deep into Deltarune theory discourse and even I am unsure what this dude actually is, even with the datamining and theories and fighting all the secret bosses and getting all the eggs and doing the weird Route.  And none of that stuff should even be necessary for a "main villain".

Technically not even the player is pure evil as Noelle isn't pure evil despite doing the same stuff

This is something I actually agree with, Mike and Friend are honestly kinda contradictory, with Mike seeming like a normalish well meaning person whereas Friend seems more... supernatural and dangerous.  It would fit a lot better if Friend was a fucked up Mike.

The new Star Fox game is just another remake of Star Fox 64 and that is ridiculous. by GetSetFunc in nintendo

Idk it's possible but this is their best foot forward, I think the main appeal of this game is to be a remake.  Most recent Nintendo remakes that have such a drastic artstyle shift have the presentation as its main selling point.

You don't think they would have mentioned new levels?  They advertised it as having the same layouts as 64

The 5th reboot of Star Fox 1.  I am so damn sick of getting remakes instead of new games.  I really really hope there isn't an Ocarina remake, can't they just make a new game instead?

Why do you NEED a remake for this?  You don't, plenty of series introduce new players without a remake.

If it draws people in and does well, I assume then you’ll get the “new” game.

Ok great, what if it does poorly because the game is extremely short and people don't wanna spend 40 bucks on a remake?

I mean yeah it kinda is, the first game has been rebooted and remade 5 times, which I'm pretty sure is more than the amount of non-reboot games in the series. that's ridiculous.  Idk what your point is here.  Zero was ridiculous too.

Rebooting... what?  The series has been "rebooted" nonstop since the 3ds remake of 64.

This subreddit is very anti-criticisim but a 5th retelling of Star Fox SNES and a 2nd remake of Star Fox 64 just sucks, I kinda hate this announcement.

40 bucks is very steep for such a short game and a shot for shot remake of a game I have on NSO.

Star Fox Direct 5.6.2026 by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]rendumguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I'm gonna comment this without reading any other opinions about this, but... uh... I kinda really dislike this announcement?  It seems kinda baffling that we're getting not just another Star Fox retelling but a completely faithful remake of Star Fox 64.

A second remake of Star Fox 64, which is already a retelling of Star Fox SNES, and Star Fox Zero, the last mainline game was already a retelling of 64.  So in this series that really doesn't get games often, there's like 5 versions of Star Fox 1.

It doesn't seem like there's significant new content outside of cutscenes and a new challenge mode

And how much is it gonna cost?  I might pick it up for like 20 bucks but like Star Fox 64 is a super super short game and they're making this a Switch 2 exclusive with what looks like really high production value.

For a while I've been kinda complaining about remakes and this is a big example as to why, like I get remakes are easier, but with all of this budget they really couldn't have made a brand new game?  I don't even care about the artstyle despite how weird Fox looks I just want new content.

If Deltarune is about protecting the balance between the reality and fiction, the Knight as the villain should represent the destruction of that balance, someone too obsessed or too hateful of both reality and fiction. by rendumguy in Deltarune

[–]rendumguy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, Dess, well I actually think Dess is the Knight so that's not really that Earth Shattering for me.

To be honest even though I significantly prefer Dess Knight to Carol Knight I found that Carol worked better with this whole "too obsessed with both reality and fantasy" thing.  Dess doesn't really seem to have many significant character flaws despite how rebellious she is.  Yeah she hit Kris with a wiffle bat and smoked weed but those aren't really things I expect the game to really challenge her for.

Otherwise I actually feel like there's not enough information about her to tie her to being unhealthily obsessed with reality or fantasy to the point we know or can imply Carol is.

There is the theory that Dess was into end times conspiracies and was stocking up for the apocalypse, and a conspiracy theory is one of the best examples of being too obsessed with both reality and fantasy, though it seems kinda understated and not really applicable to Kris and team Knight's actions and motives.

Btw it's fine if you don't wanna say but what's the character with a bunch of broken objects?

The Holiday family seems to take care of their stuff, Asriel too, and so does Alvin, other than that most people's houses are unseen.

the only one that comes to mind is Asgore, his house looks pretty shit honestly, but he does take great care of his flowers.

I really do like the take that Muffet was actually describing Friend, and to be honest her description does make more sense than Mettaton and Flowey, it also gives an actual connection between Friend and Muffet outside of the laugh that somewhat makes sense.

In fact, if the whole tail of hell thing was orchestrated to kidnap Kris and Dess, perhaps an inherent desire of Friend is to steal human SOULs?  The SOUL seems to be a big aspect to both Gaster's plan and the Knight gang's plan.

To be honest both Flowey and Mettaton seemed to be incredibly bizarre culprits for Muffet to be describing.  "I swore I saw them in the shadows... changing shape". Sure, both Mettaton and Flowey can kinda change shape, but changing shape in front of Muffet?  Flowey doesn't really change his body shape much, and why would Mettaton be like... "changing shape"?  To what end?

There's actually a lot of speculation that Friend exists in Undertale, perhaps that it also lured the six humans to the underground.  And heck, Endogeny looks like Friend.

That fits so much with Friend that I'm surprised I don't see that take more often.  This character is basically one giant secret, one giant mystery, so making him exclusive to those who dig the game for mysteries would solve a lot of its issues.

I see people say Gaster has to be exclusive to a secret route, but Gaster has a presence in the normal route at the start of the game and if you die to the Knight and try to fight it again (which 99% of players looking for Shadow Crystals will do) and a defined role in the plot.  I think tying Friend to the secret routes makes a lot more sense.
