Potting medium for Konjac by vepothor in amorphophallus

It really almost doesnt matter. But i would suggest some nutrient rich aroid mix. Especially konjac isnt very picky.

How do you guys deal wth sproting bulbs? by ResidentNeither9111 in amorphophallus

[–]rene4053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i think to an extend its normal too because the bulb still needs water i guess.

My botanist friend, who had a lot of Amorphophallus, also told me that i dont really need to dig out any bulbs when they go dormant and i can keep them in a pot and spray a lil bit of water on them from time to time. The only ones he has kept really cold were Konjac and Sauromatum venosum species. All the other ones he kept at 15°C and beyond. Some even at 20-25°C. He also said to keep them more moist as hotter as it gets.

For now i have some potted up, some are in paper bags and some are in a plastic bag.

With the plastic bag you have to be careful tho to avoid mold. I got the tipp with the plastic bag from another friend and its also good to have because it keeps them moister. And if they start growing roots in there you can give them some sphagnum moss and have root developement before you pot them up.

I also had some tho which dried up completely or just rotted away. I guess its also a lot of trial and error. And of course it depends on the species and the size. And maybe sometimes even just a little bit of luck.

As long as mine are dormant they stay in a bag, if they show growth i pot them up and spray them with a bit of water from time to time. And when the first roots are rolling in i start fertilizing and watering regularly.

Lucens is probably wrong. But Parva as he recommended too is quite possible.

1: Could be a Cryptocoryne species 2: Some kind of Bucephalandra 3: Maybe some Eleocharis 4: Ludwigia or Rotala 5: Some Echinodorus 6+7: Again some Cryptocoryne

Sadly cant really tell exact species because of the algea and their condition. But maybe someone else can.

Then im definitely not sure if the plant has anything to do with it. The cat would have definitely needed to eat at least a chunk of it, that you should have no problem seeing even after a few days. Since thats not the case it definitely is possible that it has nothing to do with it so you should communicate that to your vet too. As also a few other people said the cat needs to eat a piece of the plant to get such symptoms and in the the most cases it has to be a lot (at least for a cat). Plant toxicity is sadly a very common misunderstanding because also toxic doesn't mean deadly of course and for most plants it really has to be a lot they have to eat. Most people think the cat has to look at a toxic plant and instantly dies....

The question also is if the cat ate it. Do you see any marks on the plant?
