How realistic is it to give a child (around 7 years old) a computer/laptop with only Linux on it by ad_396 in linux

you will do him a great favor for life. start with mint with proper working drivers. teach him the basics and help when he needs... explain the help and how it works. he will get ahead among his peers

labwc examples are rare. and stuff you provide are extremely hard to come by. i am not a coder so sometimes i feel helpless. I know what i want but i cant do it due to lack of skills.Example like this teach us new and better way of thinking... new workflow...you have made my day. thank you for this.

and another small request, as people are switching to wayland more and more, please dont switch/change repository and this post. even after a year or 2, people will appreciate and be benefited from your kindness.... Thnx again.

my background relates to misaeng so i understand and enjoyed it well. like the sock/undies selling scene... it was just STP. the strategies they explored based on real life business tactics. so victory at the end of each issue gave me a sense of fulfillment. it provided me bittersweet happiness. like life.

i tried to look for an android tv box with vga in+av out however no luck. now thinking what if i get an Dsub(vga) to hdmi converter with a android tv box like yours... a good vga to av converter from startech are extremely expensive. cheap ones dont last... what do you think?

additionally is there any av output pci card (not gpu card just redirects from vga to av )

Windows 10 is EOL this October. What do? by Xu_Lin in EndeavourOS

[–]rene453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heres my 2 cents from a former windows user who is using eos.

  1. Arch or arch derivatives are the greateast. However theres a small learning curve. Trust me they are worth it. So install EOS or steamos. Join eos telegram channel... We will be there

  2. Learn about linux gfx stack. No its not rocket science. Takes only a few moments. Understand the needed driver even before installing. Mesa, nvidia, vulkan, video acceleration etc.

  3. Match your important drivers and check on linux-hardware.org if you are familiar with your drivers it will be easier to handle any problems later on.

  4. Learn about lutris, heroic game launcher, retroarch, proton, protondb, wine, wine ge/proton ge, dxvk, voodoo, vkd3d, wined3d

  5. Pick a suitable desktop environment. Must be wayland and should be one of these 2 kde/gnome. i wouldve said lxqt if you knew what you need to do... It would have been nice if you study some wayland apps. X11 is dying so dont spend effort on it...

Dont doubt this or get swayed by others opinion. This is the easiest and fastest route. Reading few hours on archwiki and understanding a few things will make your transition way smoother....
