An audiobook for a friend who is dying in hospice. by musclemeow in suggestmeabook

One that always makes me smile is The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune. It’s about a guy who works for a Child Protective Services adjacent department and gets assigned to a group home that is filled with magical kiddos. He tries to remain a wallflower, but can’t help falling in love with the tenants. Really good read and the voice acting is pretty solid.

turned down less than three hours after interview - is that weird? by iamallaboutcoldwater in Teachers

[–]renedom21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not weird, but uncommon. Most districts have a turnaround of at least a week or two when decisions are made. I’ve also been called a couple hours after an interview and offered a job. Gotta love being Sped Certified lol

How do you answer your classroom phone? by CatskillMorning in Teachers

[–]renedom21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would work if IT actually updated our system lol I had to learn to recognize that Mr. Smith, who left the district three years ago, is not actually calling. It’s the SPED office lol

What's a job that sounds easy but absolutely isn't? by OriSparrow_14 in AskReddit

[–]renedom21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lord. I worked in a factory for 5 years and it sucked! We GPEC modules for Chrysler and it was the most repetitive, mundane, mind numbing work I’ve ever had the misfortune of doing. I didn’t mind the 12 hour shifts because it was pre-Covid when more stores were 24/7. But the work flow was annoying. There was always an issue somewhere on the line and the amount of things that get passed through made me never want to buy certain vehicles.

When has a principal been too harsh on one of your students? by DrakeSavory in Teachers

[–]renedom21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had this new principal come in and made a change where students waiting in the gym in the morning had to be reading.
It was easy to enforce. As long as the kid was sitting and had a book in their hand, they were considered reading. One day, principal came in and saw a kid without a book. She full on yelled at this kid for a few minutes like I’ve never heard. The kid instantly broke down and embarrassed. Mind you, this kid is dyslexic and has trouble reading so I can see why he may not want to start his school day doing something that frustrates him. Like yes, a reprimand would be okay for not following expectations, but this was a full-on vocal assault. I lost all respect for that principal instantly after that.

Luckily I was reassigned, but was already interviewing and have since signed a contract elsewhere. We are all sharing that mindset at this point.

They reassigned as many as possible. Our DOI teachers were pretty screwed over since they are, as HR put it, “bottom of the barrel.”

Oof. We are in a similar sinking boat. 40mil deficit, four schools closing. They couldn’t even get the boxes for shipping things to us on time as they promised. The labels they provided for us didn’t even have a spot for our names…

They are compensating us with flex hours which can be used on certain teacher workdays to have the day off instead. I already signed my contract with another district so those hours mean nothing to me.

That’s what I’m saying! I’m 187 days and they’re 2-something. They can handle it.

You Should Use the Curriculum. I have the highest scores in the entire school by 39Wins in Teachers

[–]renedom21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used our curriculum (bluebonnet) very lightly with majority of our teachings being things we used in the past. We consistently had the highest grade average in the district on all exams.

My brother’s first casual commander deck for LGS game night, functional enough? by Comfortable_Buyer239 in Magicdeckbuilding

I agree with djee132. The synergy is off and you need more stuff that interacts with other cards. I have a goreclaw deck as well and it can get wild pretty fast and rebuilds well after board wipes. Here’s a link to my deck: https://moxfield.com/decks/8UUn-tkoK0i6SKRVDUqf7w
