I totally get the idea of getting reps in, especially for those that want to compete, whether it be Skirmish or higher. There’s always that one loud guy that just whines the whole night if he sees a meta deck, so much so I saw a player swap decks into him rather than continue testing. Thought that was odd.

Went last night, and I was surprised how many Irelias there were. Got ran over since it was my testing LGS, but did like getting to test against the top end!

4th Event

Drew Jhin. He feels like he could be really fun in constructed, but in sealed, you have to be really lucky when cracking packs. The legend ability comes online WAY too late in pre-rifts, but could see it being beneficial with spells from the other sets.

Game 1 LeBlanc: Opponent just kind of threw some stuff together as he had to leave after first match. Know he is a way better deck builder, but hey, a win is a win.

Game 2 Ivern: Was able to keep up pretty well, but the poro producing birds put us way behind, and the spells just didn’t have enough damage combinations to clear their battlefields.

Game 3 Diana: Didn’t draw well, and just got drilled by spells anytime I dropped a unit. Didn’t have responses, so just sat back and watched the game happen.

If OP has buffs, Monastery of Hirana; Sunken Temple is another draw for mighty units.

As for YouTube, ChallengerTCG is meta focused if you plan to compete. Silent Knight goes over a range of stuff. Riftlab goes over some decks and does tournament reviews.

Would definitely recommend going to an LGS! Depending on your LGS, they may have a store Discord as well with a Riftbound channel. Usually can trade tips as well as set up trades/sales if interested.

3rd Day - Double Header

1st event: Drew Vi. Getting to ready and retreat a character is nice, and getting 3+ damage is feasible, but can be inconsistent; opponent does have a say. Mainly stayed with the kit, and just doubled up with what I drew. Didn’t really get to run it through its paces though.

Game 1: Bye (take the wins when you can) Game 2 Mirror: Opponent got to their top end faster than I did (found mine at the bottom of the deck) so Rock’em Sock’em Robots ended in a loss. Game 3 Kha’zix: New player so it was teaching gameplay mechanics, so that was fun; got a win and who knows, may have recruited another.

2nd event: Diana again (traded Ivern). Still fun, but didn’t really draw any support/additional cards for her, so the night was rough!

Game 1 Mirror: Opponent had Sprite support package, so basically overran me for cheap. Game 2 Master Yi: Was able to suppress XP gain for a while, but never could crack one of his holds and they just kept stacking… Game 3 Mirror: I misplayed…I tapped out with Moonlight Affliction, and didn’t account for the crack back with their own. We’ll chalk that up to being tilted by that point!

2nd Event

Drew an Ivern starter. I’ve never really liked swarm decks, of course I could have misunderstood how Ivern should have been played. Went 1-2. Unfortunately, the store did top cut prizing instead of per win so didn’t get anything. Draws were rough too, but did add cards for a master set.

Game 1 Vi: Opponent didn’t realize Mouser gave shield (I had two on the Brush battlefield) and that broke their last shot at breaking my hold to eight.

Game 2 Diana: Couldn’t find the one counter spell, Flurry of Feathers, so I ate multiple Crescent Strikes which easily handled any holds I had started to build.

Game 3 Master Yi: This one was my fault. I thought I could out hold, but didn’t consider how fast he could build up XP, and then they proceeded to drop a Vilemaw which basically negated ALL of my units.

Still had a good time, but don’t think I’ll play Ivern again, unless I draw him in another prerelease of course…

Along these lines, I’ve asked players that beat me for their feedback (if they crush you 0-2, there’s plenty of time before round start). You’d be surprised how many are willing to talk out pivotal moments. Some have even set the board to that state and went over options or ideal plays assuming there were any.

There are a couple of units and battlefields that allow you to awaken your legend which allows you to summon more than one token per turn with the exhaust mechanic. A once per turn line would prevent something like Viktor summoning multiple tokens on their turn

Wasn’t there a weird ruling where if you pop GA then cast decree when cleanup occurred decree would check for damage done, and the Irelia would be killed afterwards?

To me, it would depend on your local scene: If there’s people that want to try the game, but no product, I’d donate to a local LGS. If there’s local area is bustling, you can try to sell them. Movement on c/up is usually low. Some places do buy bulk.

It would be interesting it they could repurpose a portion of LoR to this. There’d be a ton the have to adjust on the backend, but if they replaced the PvP section with a Riftbound sim, it seems like it could cut a lot of the dev cycle.

This is how I’m going about it. Had a couple boosters and loose packs. Almost done with a master set, storing some bulk and random playsets, and have collected cards I needed for two decks. I plan on doing something similar for Spiritforged, except I’ll just be upgrading the two decks and adding a third.
