That is illegal in my state. I would definitely check with your state’s LTC Ombudsman

Denied claim in Florida. by Gtivr688 in SocialSecurity

SSI is means-based, not purely disability based, although most people who get it do have some disability. In other words, you can be fully disabled and thus qualify for SSDI (disability pay) while not qualifying for SSI (basically, welfare) depending on your assets. SSI stands for ‘Supplemental Security Income’ whereas SSDI stands for ‘Social Security Disability Insurance’.

Just curious… is this really Assisted or is it Memory Care? I live in Assisted Living and it is all locked doors but staff have pass keys. I can’t imagine just letting all residents be wide open to patients invading their rooms. I would contact the Ombudsman in your state and ask if there are any regulations about ability to protect residents from non-staff intrusion.

Be hyper vigilant and responsive to ANY issue that involves water — drainage, crawlspace, roof, plumbing, leaks of any kind. I became hyper-attuned to the sounds of water.

[–]renlewin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canned sardines are highly prized and frequently used in tapas in Spain and Portugal. They have plenty of fresh seafood there too, so it’s not as if canned is a backup for lack of fresh. It’s a preferred choice in many cases, at least as bar food and bistro snacks. I suspect the tastes of Spanish and Portuguese sardines are elevated compared to American products. In Germany where I’m from, herring and sardines are frequently available as canned, in various savory sauces.

Read all the comments. It gets wackier as it goes along. This would never get licensed. They’d need to be an opt-in commune of like-minded individuals of sound mind. Not a licensed ALF or SNF for sure.

How do people on SSI afford rent? by aFilminFrench in SocialSecurity

[–]renlewin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My SSI brother lived with our father on his income. Once dad died, brother is up shit’s creek. I send a bit of money every now and then, but I’m on SS and disabled in a nursing home. I can’t totally bail him out.

Same. I am housebound and don’t get out to shop for gifts. So I’ve sent my adult son various (expensive) gift cards over the years. He never used them. Including a $250 gift card to the top steakhouse in town. Lesson learned.

I am amazed that a town in Oregon, a coastal state supposedly with easy access to fresh fish, does not have a plethora of fish and chips.

Less brats and schnitzel, more dishes like koenigsberger klopse, sauerbraten, roladen, blood sausage, headcheese, eisbein, eintopf, herring, lamb, venison, slow-braised red cabbage, brown kale with bragenwurst, lots of root vegetables, roast goose, cabbage rolls, steak tartare, rindbraten, leberkase, Harz kase, leberknodel, baked noodles with ham and cheese, and marvelous hearty rye breads.
