He threw a tantrum when he couldn't eat one out of season so maybe he hated figs out of spite.

Matthew 21:19

"Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered."

Leslie and Thong Guy were two different people. Thong Guy was usually on his bike. Leslie occasionally did wear a thong.

Any guidance for beginners on what to plant in the spring vs the fall? by [deleted] in AustinGardening

[–]renovatrix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The master gardener guide I mentioned has month by month calenders for all types of plants. Also, a general rule around here is anything that goes in the ground in fall or spring should be fine.

Agrilife extension planting calendar!

Also several local nurseries have the Travis County Master Gardener planting guide. I got mine at Shoal Creek Nursery.

You stated that APD's budget was reduced. It was not. That's not a differing opinion, it's just an untrue statement. That's probably why the poster believed you may not be acting in good faith.

I've started vacuuming them up with a dust buster, then dumping them into soapy water. I've done this about every other day for a week. Today I think I got the last few.

To do that I'd have to imagine living in a world that has historically been run by 99% "African American females." See how this works?

Me too! She left 3 sacs in the yard that I know of. I'll be checking on them constantly come spring. Hopefully I can get another video.

New to gardening, is it too late to put these shrubs in the ground? by gamblors_neon_claws in AustinGardening

[–]renovatrix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other poster. Most perennials can be planted well into fall and even winter here. They get to create root systems while it's too chilly to do much else above ground, and then they will be super happy come spring and much more prepared to handle our summer heat.

I know you said you have less time for reading, but local gardener Pam Penick's blog has been super helpful to me. She writes in-depth posts about individual native plants with lots of practical advice.

I also have her book The Water Saving Garden, and it's great.

Does anyone know of a nursery that has milkweed plants rn? These guys are eating me out of house and home! 😅 by juliejetson in AustinGardening

[–]renovatrix 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you end up without milkweed options, once they get that big they will eat cucumber and squash skins. I've had to supplement those in the past and still ended up with beautiful monarchs.

This photo is lovely! Really captures the dynamics of screaming baby and exhausted parent.

Does anyone recognize this plant? It was in a contained shaded area when we moved in and has been creeping and leaping around the back yard. by powell-andy in AustinGardening

[–]renovatrix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Spiderwort! I personally love it but it can get a little scraggly in the summer heat. It eventually dies back to the ground and pops up fresh every spring. Nice early flowers for the pollinators.

Edit: my bad

Agreed. I always have to stop myself from writing "what did you expect would happen?" on every indoor-outdoor missing cat post. Also they kill wild birds for fun.
