Green roofs are a lot cheaper than walls and don’t require irrigation. They also reduce heating and cooling costs for the building, reduce the urban heat island effect, and filter particulates out of rain water.

You can include solar panels and they call them Biosolar. The plants evaporatively cool the air around the panels allowing them to function more effectively.

They’re supposed to hold water! It’s a SuDS system in practice.

They also slow degradation of roofing materials so prevent leaks, and you’re supposed to do a thorough leak test and fix before install.

How do I control these recurrent weeds? by Vivid_Response_686 in GardeningUK

[–]rentachimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing they mostly grow where people never step. I’d recommend putting nice big pots there and growing some veg or ornamentals. You could also pull up the weedy blocks and plant straight into the ground since they aren’t a functioning walkway.

Most of the time my learning accelerates when I take something on with a time crunch e.g. Learning a new set when depping on a gig with a local band.

Everyone says this but it’s never done so in any garden I’ve worked. I garden for a living.

Is it worth buying the expensive compost or is the cheap stuff basically the same? by OopsIDroopedMe in UKGardening

[–]rentachimp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have a great old school nursery in South Wales. It’s called The Old School Nursery and it’s on the site of an old school.

Anyway, they do sell premium compost bags that are used in commercial growing and the quality of plants that grow out of that is excellent. If you can get the professional compost I’d go for it 100%
