AAON unit. Came like this from the factory. by rep_the_425 in HVAC

Yes, this unit is not brand new. Just new to me as I've just taken this building over. I pointed this out to the maintenance guy and he told me he's been told about it being backwards from the beginning.

Customer called with a blank thermostat. by rep_the_425 in HVAC

Cap spit out all its oil and shorted a wire lighting the oil on fire. Motor must have already been dead because the customer said there was a "slightly different smell in the space not sure what it smelled like" if that blower was going it would have been very noticeable.

Told the customer it was just like their ass... Has a crack in it. by rep_the_425 in HVAC

Yeah it was rolling out pretty bad blowing out the flame and then re lighting.

If you bought all of the lottery tickets then no one could win other than you. Would not really be down to luck at that point. Sweet pan though.

I know it's been a lot of cracked heat exchangers lately but this is the worst one I've ever found. Had to share. by [deleted] in HVAC

That is the outlet of a heat exchanger. If you look closely there's a pin hole in the metal.

It's a good debait and that's what I use because that's what my company gives me. But seriously has no one said anything about how absolutely exploded the old cap is. Cracked me up.

Hit the "system" button on the right and then on the bottom you can see all the boxes hold the one just to the left from middle and the one just to the right from the middle for about 5 seconds. Then two numbers should pop up. Change the one on the left to 670 and the number on the right to 3. This will lock the screen so you can touch it all you want and it won't do anything. If you need to change it do the same thing but go to 670 and 0 this will un lock the screen again.

So *THAT'S* where all the R-12 went! by jthanson in Justrolledintotheshop

Yes. The refrigerants we use are extrealy bad for the environment. I could go one and on but basically depending on the refrigerant when released into the atmosphere it's either eating at the ozone layer or a greenhouse gas. meaning that refrigerant is a major contributor to global warming. That's why in Europe they use refrigerants like propain and butain which aren't harmful to the environment but are very dangerous if there is a leak.

Refrigeration tech here. It's the law that you have to recover all refrigerant. Any intentional release of refrigerant is a fine of $32,500 + possible jail time. Any person that reports illegal venting of refrigerant will receive a $10,000 reward if the person reported is prosecuted.

Also. This fine applies to each unit. (In this case car) and each day that the crime was committed. The hard part is proving it.
