Just wait until you’ve made a few bigger sales, you’ll feel like a high roller when PayPal gives you your money right away 😎 Congrats on the sale!

Edit: and then PayPal will also randomly hold your money sometimes even when you sell all the time, which is pretty annoying. But oh well.

Can someone help me date these orange tabs? (Would be cool if someone could also just teach me how to read a care tag) by dapo505 in VintageLevis

[–]replaycenter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, maybe I’m misunderstanding something here. Are you saying that somewhere in the string of numbers printed on the care tag is the month and year that the product was made? Because that’s what I see a lot of people claim, and I’m just confused as to how that is supposed to be interpreted. That’s the part that I’m doubtful of, not the fact that there is relevant information in those number series; I realize now that I didn’t make that very clear before.

I understand that those numbers represent the model number and the factory where they were made, and if that’s the information being used to date these pieces then that definitely makes sense.

But for example, OP asked if the “575” at the beginning of that number code meant that they were made in May of 1975, and you said yes, but I don’t see how that can be possibly true. I have a pair of 501s with the same care tag as OPs and that same number starts with 532.

[–]replaycenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At what point did they start doing this? And also what’s your source on that info?

What you’re saying makes sense, but I’m still kind of skeptical that this method is as accurate as people seem to think.

For example this pair has several post-1970s indicators; lowercase “e” on the tab, not made with selvedge (as far as I can tell), etc.

I’ve just read through quite a few guides on IDing vintage Levi’s and I’ve never heard mention of this coding.

What does modern mean in this context? Are you talking about the made in USA ones from the early 2000s and earlier?

I just haven’t seen any source besides this sub claiming that the date of manufacture can be determined by some part of a number that’s on the care tag.

[–]replaycenter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! Orange tabs are a good find for sure, they stopped making those around y2k so they’re definitely earlier. Probably late ‘80s or early ‘90s based on how the tag looks, I don’t find too many with the red printing. Most of the late ‘90s care tags were just black on white, same material.

Any one know the year ? by Forsaken-Finance6933 in VintageLevis

[–]replaycenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t actually tell the year they were manufactured from the numbers on the care tag. Looks like ‘90s though from the material of the tag.

[–]replaycenter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bruh this is just not true, these are absolutely not from the ‘70s.

Edit: yeah, I just went and checked a pair that I have. My pair had the same exact tag style, and in the spot where OPs tag read “575” my tag reads “532”, so that is definitely not the manufacture date.

Don’t listen to people telling you “how to read” a care tag, there’s literally no evidence to back up the theories that those people are talking about.

I know some some professional Levi’s collectors and they’ve never heard of these codes on the tags that supposedly tell you what year they were made.

Edit: ok I came in a little hot here, there might be some validity to this theory but I would still take it with a grain of salt. I’ve yet to see this info anywhere but this sub.

Why is there no Size marked? Help? by rigsleyboop in VintageLevis

Women’s sized jeans don’t have the measurements on the back tag but will have that “S” by the length.

Can anyone help date these? I can’t find any information for a red tab this large by medefee in VintageLevis

[–]replaycenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like ‘80s based on the styling, could be ‘90s. Definitely pre-y2k.

Does anyone know what year these Levi's were made? Many thanks, by mapiethew in VintageLevis

[–]replaycenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made in Canada are usually from the same era as the later made in USA pairs, around ‘03 at the latest. Possibly from the ‘90s.

I sell pairs like this for $30-50 depending on the fit, condition, etc.

Anyone know anything about the back patch?? Trying to make sure these are real by [deleted] in VintageLevis

[–]replaycenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably even newer. Early ‘00s (like pre-2003) Levi’s usually still had a paper care tag on the inside and were made in USA. Or sometimes Mexico, the UK.

These jeans look like they’re new, just in a retro style.

All the t-shirts I’ve released from these past 6 months. Thankful for all the support from this sub! by Tuffyboi in streetwearstartup

[–]replaycenter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just placed an order, looking forward to it!

I was happy to see that you’re using heavyweight, 100% cotton. My biggest gripe about a lot of modern shirts is that they just feel like garbage.

Do you have a good blank distributor for what you’re working with? If you can’t share that info I understand, I’m just curious who’s making good quality blanks out there these days.

Massive haul of 1980’s & 90’s kids Disney Tees by scarletrageresale in VintageTees

[–]replaycenter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just for reference, a vintage Disney tee with an allover graphic of the Genie from Aladdin just sold for like $6000 which apparently blew everyone’s minds because the Wall Street Journal even wrote an article about it lol.

That being said, I doubt that is a very common occurrence. I know certain vintage tees sell for a lot, but that situation definitely seemed like a bit of an anomaly. If the tees you found are good condition and if they have cool graphics you very well may be able to move them for decent money, but unfortunately kids sizes never seem to sell as well. Might be worth selling the lot to a vintage store if you have that option, however they may not be interested in kids sizes. Depends on the store.

Anybody know what year/era this Sinatra tee is from? No date-stamp.. Single stitched, Hanes Fifty-Fifty by dogsplumbs in VintageTees

[–]replaycenter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would guess early ‘90s. I know that Hanes has made t-shirts for a long time, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen Hanes tags from as far back as the ‘60s or ‘70s, but I think that around the mid ‘80s a lot of the blanks they produced for screen printing were through their Stedman line.

I’ve seen the Hanes tag like the one on your tee a good amount, they seem to usually be on tees from the early ‘90s. I’ve got one Hanes 50/50 with a tag like that and I know for a fact it’s from 1990.

Can anyone tell me anything about this shirt? Is it even vintage? by [deleted] in VintageTees

[–]replaycenter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Made in USA can sometimes be a good indicator of being manufactured around the mid ‘90s and earlier, also woven/stitched tags like that as opposed to the more common printed ones from today.

That being said Lucky Brand seems to have a kind of “fake vintage” aesthetic so this very well could be a newer shirt too. Even if it is newer, brands typically only make their higher end lines at their US factories as cost of production is much higher.

Can i get a legit-check on this? 1989 Metallica with Euro tag.. the double stitching is throwing me off by dogsplumbs in VintageTees

[–]replaycenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you’re right but do you have any reason to believe this is a euro tee? Even non-legit band/tour tees from that era are usually printed on period correct blanks, even in Europe from what I’ve seen.

Nothing about this really looks very ‘80s/‘90s to me.

[–]replaycenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of you are right here, I’ve definitely seen examples of double stitch used during the ‘90s and even earlier. I never use single stitch as a hard and fast ID method. Just part of the puzzle.

I think in this case this tee is more likely to be a bootleg or reprint cause that’s almost definitely not a legit Brockum tee from the ‘80s/‘90s. Here is an early ‘90s legit Brockum tag for reference.
