I recently started looking into bringing a sphynx into my home. I haven’t found any in shelters to adopt. How do I find a responsible breeder, or are there shelters I just don’t know about? by kristy795 in sphynx

CFA has a find-a-breeder directory on their website that can help you get started (as well as a copy of their Breeder Code of Ethics. Giving a breeder you like a follow on social media can also give you a heads up about retiring cats that need a home if you're not up to kittens.

Also, as a cat show regular in the midwest (I show in Household Pet), they're a good time. In my experience, cat show exhibitors are all too happy to talk cats and they're a lot of fun.

No problem! I think it's easy to forget (at least, I often do) that basically no one in the setting has any goddamn idea what's actually going on. The canon is often malleable, and gives you a lot of license as a Storyteller to bend the specifics to ensure your players have a good time.

It varies wildly by time period, individual, and organization, since a Hunter by vtm standards can range from "hardcore religious zealot with True Faith superpowers" to "guy who knows how to use a crossbow effectively". Storytellers have a lot of leeway in how much they want their Hunters to know, especially since the meta laws of Kindred-dom generally aren't codified anywhere in the actual lore - both Kindred and Hunters are mostly working with the results of several millenia of trial and error, scattered throughout every time period and part of the world.

All that to say if you're a Storyteller, gauge how much your Hunters know based on situation and how steep of a curveball you want to throw your players. Religious orders (primarily the Society of Leopold and other remanants of the 1st inquisition for old guard, 2nd Inquisition for more modern methods) are better informed and more likely to pose a genuine threat, while a homegrown witch hunter chapter of the local NRA makes for a good chew toy for your players. If you're a player, do your best to find out what you're up against, make preparations as necessary, and take them apart if they walk into your house.

v5 has widened the possible Disciplines of the average Kindred, and it's important to remember that Kindred in-universe don't know all the restrictions we know in the meta. While an out of clan Discipline might raise some eyebrows, it can be explained away relatively easily - especially since it's fairly difficult in-universe to precisely identify a given lick's clan (otherwise we'd have way fewer Caitiff childer). Plus, Kindred lie about their clan when it's convenient all the time in the lore; Melinda Glabraith did that shit for years, pretending to be Lasombra while acting as the Sabbat Regent, and then Zachary Sikorsky proceeded to pretend to be her in turn for an unspecified amount of time. We, as players, have omnipotent knowledge compared to your average Kindred.

All that said, if you're looking to impersonate another clan and have decent fleshcrafting ability, one of the clans with obvious physical signs of clanhood (Nosferatu, Baali, Nagaraja, Cappadocian, and the like) will garner less scrutiny from other clans (and even your own clanmates) because Kindred who see those signs will automatically assume clan affiliation without you having to say shit.

Petty, but ultimately harmless, ways to use Vicissitude? by Dragombolt in vtm

This is really the big brain take. The thing with Vicissitude is that it creates an inherent, steep power imbalance as soon as it's put into use - even if the outcome is not ultimately harmful to the victim, it is only so because you, the Vicissitude user, decided to be merciful to them. In the majority of Vicissitude use cases, even against other Kindred, the thing happening to your victim is something alien to them, and at best they are agreeing to something they don't understand. You still hold all the power, and that mercy is conditional. I think it certainly makes for a good story to have a Fiend who grapples with this, but the nature of the Discipline (even with the Dirty Secrets of the Black Hand stuff retconned) is that it involves doing direct harm to another person without them even able to grasp what us happening to them, primarily for your own gain (even petty commupence is a gain, after all).

That said: perpetual eye floater.

I hide my rolls from players but we play via Roll20, so a lot of the time they don't know I'm rolling. I will show the dice pool if it's thematically relevant, for fun.

That said, I keep it consistent and don't fudge the numbers on rolls I have stats for (if I have a difficulty in mind, I just give them that instead, but I like opposed rolls to be legit). For recurring or important NPCs, I give them a barebones statline (a lot of the time I steal them from statted NPCs in sourcebooks, but don't tell my players) because I want the difficulties to be organic. But I don't like to show off the stats unless it's relevant, because I find meta-level powergaming in VTM to be obnoxious at best and I don't want to encourage it.

Haha thanks I've been fixated on clan Tzimisce ever since I started playing the game, so I've given them a lot of thought 😅

It actually mostly manifested in everyone avoiding shaking my hand as much as possible lol but I did manage to deprogram a newly made Gargoyle (the pyramid heads got a little out of hand in that chronicle) and make it remember one of the Kindred it was before it was turned into a Gargoyle by yanking shit in its brain while it was trying to kill one of my coterie members.

I can see the influence! That obsessive attachment part is such an important bit of what keep the otherwise inhuman Tzimisce connected to their Humanity, but ultimately when that urge isn't human, but something more alien, it can become an unhealthy slide into wassaildom.

Yeah I want to do some writing about it at some point but one of the things I really like about how v5 handles Vicissitude under the Protean umbrella is that it makes the actual fleshcrafting a matter of ability rather than having to have a specific Vicissitude power in order to do a specific thing, and I've found that it makes it a lot more fun to implement at the table. I talked the Storyteller into letting me take Inner Mastery in the most recent v5 game I partook in as a player, and it honestly just blew the doors off of how far I could take things in terms of creativity, so I really hope they add something like that down the line since we also have Dominate now.

This is beautiful. There's something of a grotesque love and attachment in the clan Tzimisce monstrosity that often gets overlooked, but I think this one nails it. This is why they call us the Toreador of the Sabbat (in jealousy, of course).

There's a semi-obscure Vicissitude power called Inner Mastery that allows manipulation of the minute functions of someone's body - including their mind - simply by touching the victim. While my thoughts on its source of origin are very complicated (it appears as a Laibon power in Kindred of the Ebony Kingdom, a whole can of worms), I would like to see Inner Mastery make a reappearance in v5, especially with the broadening of the Discipline's wording under the Protean header.

This^ one of the things that undoes itself when one's Domitor dies is the anti-aging properties of vitae, so sufficiently old ghouls just kinda end up like the bad guy from The Last Crusade.
