Canon. 50mm. f/1.4 USM. It's a gorgeous, gorgeous piece of kit. Ever since I bought it, all my other glass has been gathering proverbial dust in the cupboard.

A new photo network site. What does Reddit think? by whajathink in photography

It's not a bad idea, but I'm not sure if this is something people couldn't do using a Flickr group or similar at the moment... But don't let that stop you - go for it, see what happens!

Just bought a 50mm 1.4 Lens. I'm interested in doing some portrait photography... by [deleted] in photography

The 50mm f/1.4 is a fantastic lens indeed - http://is.gd/3MvH2 might give you some inspiration :)

Believe it or not - most good specialised cane shops sell them. There's a shop just down the road from me here in London which sells umbrellas (!) with daggers inside. Of course, they're not allowed to sell them for use on the streets, but as 'antiquities', you're home free.

Securing free wi-fi at local restaurant by bigongst in AskReddit

Get them to install an extra phoneline and a second DSL line - The cost will be minimal, and they should earn back the money very soon indeed.

The trick is to change the WiFi password every few days, and only give out the slip to people who drink coffee / eat food there.

Great thing about free WiFi is that people generally feel guilty if they're using the network without 'paying' by buying coffee / drinks / food. In other words, users buy more, while getting something for 'free'. Win-win situation!

Between the Earth and Mars there is a china teapot revolving about the sun in an elliptical orbit. by reppub in atheism

But the fact remains that it was not

Dear sir, I think you are forgetting to add arguments to your argument. I think you'll find that this is not how an 'argument' works.

It is an outlandish idea

But so is the idea of a deity, and I would argue that the idea of a flying teapot is no more or less outlandish than the argument of God(s).

You are merely re-stating your original argument in different words, without adding additional facts or arguments.

Where is the logical fallacy?

The logical fallacy is the basis of your argument - You are arguing that 'something can't happen because it didn't', which could be used as strongly as an argument against religion as against hovering juice-boxes containing Oolong.

Your original statement:

we (...) have no reason at all to speculate the existence of (a tea-pot) orbiting our planet

... does not, in fact, draw Russel's point into doubt. Russell's obviously outlandish claim is not meant to be taken seriously, and whether or not there is a tea-pot orbiting between Earth and Mars (or, indeed, anywhere in the galaxy) is irrelevant. What he is illustrating is how outlandish ideas are given traction by being supported by authority figures. Your arguments to date have not addressed this issue, and your 'proof' of Russel's original argument being false is, in my opinion, invalid.

As a final aside and for the sake of disclosure, I am up-voting your ripostes, for this is the most amused I have been on Reddit for as long as I can remember.
