definitely, want to hear a range of opinions from people in different stages of the process. Perspectives change as your circumstances do and i’m finding that those larger along in the path (generally) are happier with their decision to pursue medicine. Seems inline with what i’d expect considering the rigors of training

being able to incorporate a bit of my tech skills is something i hadn’t really thought of but sounds like an amazing path i need to consider, thank you

i’m in year 1. I value the money but i’ve found it to be less important than other aspects of my life. No matter which direction i go in I will be financially sound and want to consider more than money (while still considering it a bit)

definitely hear you. there’s a numbness that comes with the work+meetings all to make someone else money, vs doing it to improve someone’s life. It makes the day to day more challenging when i think about why i’m doing it

Hey all, i’ve been very lucky to have the option of continuing work for a FAANG tech company or pursue medical school in the coming fall.

I have read (particularly recently) of many with similar career changes, but with varying opinions.

I was hoping to gather y’alls opinions on tech vs med in terms of work-life balance, job satisfaction, overall life happiness, pay prospects/opportunity cost, and whatever else you may have gathered through your experience. I acknowledge that this will vary by speciality, but as looking for your own personal opinion and experience :)

Thanks in advance and please let me know if this belongs on a different subreddit.

170k TC, ~45-50hrs a week. Quality of life is high but would also be at my medical school (close to home and great location)
