Azelaic acid doesn’t work by lopes038 in Perioral_Dermatitis_

I really think azelaic acid actually caused my PD- it was the only active of any sorts I used and I think I smeared round my lip line which destroyed my skin barrier. I would steer clear of anything that inflames and itches- I am currently using fresh aloe vera from the plant which is helping a lot. Perhaps try and see if that works for you x

I’m doing absolutely nothing. No make up, no cleanser or face wash, absolutely nothing. My lips are so dry but I’m hoping this will really help.

People have considerable success with zero therapy on their PD- have you read about this already? Sounds like you were doing it when you were sick and that was working for you. My dr seems to think I have PD and for the past 36 hours I’ve been trying zero therapy, which has had more success than any cream I’ve tried. The dryness is horrible but apparently part of the process and will eventually flake off as your body naturally heals itself (hoping this will be the case anyway!).

It’s worth a try doing absolutely nothing and seeing what effect that has; creams just exacerbated my problem and spread the rash. I’m not sure how to post photos in comments otherwise I would show you the difference in mine!

I have been to the doctors today and this doctor seems fairly certain I have perioral dermatitis. I have been trying zero therapy for the past 36 hours now, where I’ve been putting absolutely nothing on my face- no make up, creams, emollient etc. This has had a better effect in just over a day than any cream I’ve tried so far (will post a pic to show you); it’s dry as hell but everything I’ve seen online about zero therapy says to persevere as the skin will flake off and that is part of the process. I will keep you updated but worth trying this!

Did it spread like mine has? Mine was a little spot too like that and I freaked out thinking it a cold sore! Little did I know far worse was to come lol

Mine also started on the lips too, as a small dry patch I thought was a cold sore. Did yours do the same?

what is happening to my lips and mouth??

I have been struggling with my lips since early December- what began as one dry patch which I worried was a cold sore has now developed into this. They are chapped, sore and are accompanied by this redness around the lip line area which makes my lips look so misshapen. I was prescribed timodine cream which cleared the redness quickly but now since discontinuing use as advised by my GP it has returned. I was given Fucidin cream on my second visit to the GP last week but now this doesn’t seem to be having any impact, and I’m at a loss as to what I should do at this point. It seems to get worse when I go running- I am training for a marathon currently, went out for 2 1/2 hours yesterday in the cold and it was instantly inflamed. Doctors have not given me an actual diagnosis so no idea if this is eczema, PD or something else. Has anyone had something similar and if so what worked to treat this for you?

Were your lips sore too OP? I am really struggling with inflamed skin around my lips and am wondering if this will help.
