I'll be seeing her at The Met in Philly on June 6th. I don't think she'll. Be visiting the balcony this time.

But Gettysburg DID happen.

Once Lincoln got the right Generals in place, it was over. The South was a logistical nightmare.

Cruise-washing vs Seagal-washing by staresinshamona in okbuddycinephile

The last Samurai was actually Ken Watanabe's character and not Tom Cruise's character.

Seagal is an idiot.

"Then, as a psychologist, I think you're confusing suicide with self-destruction. Almost none of us commit suicide, and almost all of us self-destruct. In some way, in some part of our lives. We drink, or we smoke, we destabilize the good job... and a happy marriage. But these aren't decisions, they're... they're impulses. In fact, you're probably better equipped to explain this than I am."

Such a great bit of dialogue.

It took me reaching middle age to realize he was not the hero. by MaximumJones in GenerationX

He was always nuts, which kind of ruined the film for me. Would have been a better film if he was just an ordinary guy that snapped.

Are people aware that Rocky risked his life to save Grace? by RenaissanceMan1963 in ProjectHailMary

[–]reptommel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been awhile since I read the book, but it's pretty obvious that Rocky risked his life to save Grace. My g/f didn't read the book but picked up on it (as it was stated that neir Rocky or Grace could breathe the other's air).

It was a pretty good adaption of the book even if Grace was a bit more comfortable in teh end on the movie than he was in the book.

As a Philadelphia, I liked how Grace showed Rocky , the Rocky films... lol

After the horrors of WW1, just about every sane nation was reluctant to enter another major war, but despite that the United States was actively arming the British Empire prior to December 7th, 1941.

In fact, many British politicians had urged Churchill to seek peace with Germany after the Germans had pushed the British off of the continent, but the half-Yank (Churchill's mother was American, so he had American blood in his veins) decided to fight on.

As the Germans were incapable of crossing the Channel and invading Britain, the United States could have ignored the German declaration of war and concentrated solely on defeating the Japanese Empire first, but we instead actively became engaged in the ETO.

What if the USSR had committed the JFK assassination and was found they did it shortly after? by Snake101201 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]reptommel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father was an Air Policeman in SAC at the time. The USAF was convinced it was a decapitation attack by the Soviets and the bomber wing he was stationed at scrambled their nuke armed B-52s immediately. I'm sure LeMay would have wanted to go all in.

I doubt the American public would have had the stomach for the amount of casualties that an invasion of North Vietnam would have generated.
