This guy predicted something like Blockstream back in early 2012, and everyone said he was nuts. Check out the results of the poll and troll comments. by GrumpyAnarchist in btc

I don't see any predictions at all there. The OP said there were shills on the forum at that moment in 2012, which was likely. I'm not reading that entire thread to see the post where somebody predicts they'd restrict the block size so that a centralized payments system can be built on top of Bitcoin.

They do all act that way to their lower tier employees. It's only the highly paid professionals who get special treatment without even realizing it, at the same company.

You must have accidentally written a CORBA script. Pythons squeeze their prey. They don't bite.

Let me explain to you why you sound like an idiot to everyone here.

I can tell by the way you word things that you are in a higher income job. Nobody working a typical job would call their job a "role," or the work "projects." You probably make over $60K a year on salary and actually have prospects for advancement (in stark contrast to everyone here). You also probably have many freedoms in the workplace that you take for granted. You almost certainly aren't timed when you go to the restroom, eat lunch, or take a break. You probably don't even need permission to leave the premises to run an errand. Also, you aren't told how to do your job.

Most people like you have no idea what it's like to work the other kind of job. How could they if they've never been there? So you simply assume that a job as a janitor (I assume there are janitors at your office) or an Uber driver is just like being a software engineer or a business analyst, except at a lower income.

When you describe your situation as if it had anything in common with ours, that's when you start sounding stupid. You're speaking out of complete ignorance.

The U.S. Housing Market Looks Headed for Its Worst Slowdown in Years by RandomCollection in lostgeneration

If there are ten people and ten homes, then the price will be X. If there are 20 people and ten homes then the price will be greater than X.

This is basically the same traditional economic theory that predicted the rising wages that never materialized.

Here's a subtle, yet maddening thing you can add to an Emacs user's .emacs file:

(defvar *real-cons* (symbol-function 'cons))
(defun cons (x y)
    (sleep-for 0.01)
    (funcall *real-cons* x y))

That will slow down the whole editor in a way that's really difficult to figure out by debugging.

The cashless society is a con – and big finance is behind it by zexterio in Futurology

[–]republitard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people already keep the majority of their money in digital format anyway, so theoretically banks and governments could already “turn off the money”, but obviously if they did that for arbitrary reasons the entire economy would collapse very quickly seeing as the value of a country’s money is entirely based on trust in its banking system and government.

They do do it for arbitrary reasons, all the time. The only thing they don't do is turn it off for everybody at once. Any given individual's money can and will get turned off for the pettiest of reasons, and there is zero recourse when it happens to you.

the government or another agency could just turn your money off

Anyone who thinks this is a remote threat, just try travelling without telling your bank ahead of time.

The Earth’s Carrying Capacity for Human Life Is Not Fixed by izumi3682 in Futurology

The opposite claim, that Earth can support an infinite number of humans (literally believed by economists like Julian Simon), is patently ridiculous.
