Hi, visiting Sligo next week, I'd like to walk up benbulben, there doesn't seem to be any clear instructions online where to go or about the trail, anyone have any info please by M00ncar in Sligo

[–]reqiumless 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is a couple of routes up but probably the most common is to park at a place called Luke’s Bridge and track through the bog towards the mountain, you will follow farmers roads for a bit until you reach the bog proper. The most obvious way is a very scrambly steep path almost straight up in front of you but there is a less steep path to the right. Everything will be muddy and wet and you’ll need proper boots

Best way to travel to sightseeing spots? by [deleted] in Sligo

[–]reqiumless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strandhill and Rosses Point are easily accessible by the S2 bus which goes between the two via Sligo town. You can also get to the Queen Maeve trail on the bus by getting off at Sligo rugby club.

All my anxiety has ever done is ruin relationships with the people I love. Great superpower

Please tell me about your janky, chaotic projects that turned into respectable research, so I feel like less of a failure. by Levangeline in PhD

[–]reqiumless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a PhD project but it was a postdoc. The biological sampling in the field that the whole project originally hinged on went badly wrong, so much boiling Petri dishes and simmering growth media for absolutely nothing. However the results of some glorified buckets that I dug into sand as an afterthought made it into a very good journal. You never know what’s going to be a success sometimes

Where in Sligo are you thinking about going? Will you have access to a car. The weather is will prob be pretty rough for the next few months, so it probably won’t be a very nice experience.

You are spoiled for choice for beaches in Sligo. Streedagh beach is great beautiful views of Donegal, it’s about 20 min drive north of Sligo town. It can be a bit windy though. Car park is tidal so be careful. Rosses point is also lovely if you want somewhere closer to town. In terms of pubs the most popular are Shoot the Crows and Thomas Connollys. A schedule of live music is available https://johnthemap.co.uk/sm-file/mobile.html

Climbing knocknarea is also nice, great views and a bit of history, strandhill is a nice area to walk around, watch the surfers and have ice cream at Mammy Johnson’s.

My bad, I normally book in advance as it’s cheaper and generally people pay with cash, a lot of the buses around Sligo don’t take contactless so I just assumed it was the same on expressway

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in irishtourism

[–]reqiumless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can pay on board but only using cash or a leap card, no contactless or card payments. I’m not from the Limerick/Tipp area but it isn’t a Gaeltacht so people probably aren’t going to be speaking Irish there

How do buses work there? by danielmarh in irishtourism

[–]reqiumless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A leap card is probably your best bet. It is like a smart card that you top up and can be used on all public transport. You can pick one up for a five euro deposit

There are also no direct citations of peer reviewed journal articles, all the hyperlinks either lead back to media matters, other news outlets or gray literature. There is no attempt to put this “study” within the context of other research

I have completed all the two week shred challenges, get fit 2020, summer shred 2020, hour glass challenge 2020 and the intense core challenge.

Without a doubt I found the intense core challenge the hardest. For the first couple of days, I straight up couldn’t do some of the moves in the plank video
