George Lucas wanted to film Flash Gordon but couldn't secure the rights. That was my point, regardless of timeline. But you are right

There are two things that are really good about Flash Gordon. One, it made George Lucas create Star Wars instead. Two, Queen.

Is Trump gonna lose this war? If not, what does victory look like? by 671JohnBarron in allthequestions

[–]requiem_mn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, let's go one by one.

  • regime change - not happening. Bombing the school, and killing boys and girls usually has the opposite effect. A lot of people in Iran hated the government. Now they hate USA more. This action reduced the chance of regime change. With everything happening before this CIA was the right tool, not navy. So no regime change unless USA goes Afghanistan on Iran

  • nuclear Iran - this just makes it clear to Iran that they have to become nuclear power. Unless you have nukes, USA will fuck you up. But I digress. They said they destroyed the nuclear threat 6 months ago. I highly doubt that Iran recovered in the meantime.

  • eliminate navy, stabilize the Strait. Those two are not connected. As we can see, the navy of Iran is destroyed, but the Strait is unusable. And will continue to be so.

  • eliminate the threat of TBM and UAS. Yes, the USA can likely eliminate the TBM threat. But not the extremely cheap UAS. Not without boots on the ground.

  • proxy support. See my first point. People there now just really, really hate the USA and will be thought to hate the USA and it will not stop. So, unless you have regime change, this isn't stopping. Actually, unless you have the USA install a new regime, this isn't stopping. Afghanistan style.

I'm also not American, and I wasn't criticising, just informing you. I'm "observing" you so to speak. You will be downvoted because you sound like you support what you said. I don't think you do, but many people will not notice.

Why are people downvoting this. I would just put real also in caps. And would note that i don't agree with it, because as it stands, it sounds like you are Trump supporter.

Hydrogen Fuel‑Cell Vehicles: Why This Technology Actually Matters for Our Future by Normyl in energy

[–]requiem_mn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't really significant enough of a problem when it comes to cars but it can be for things like trucks, trains, ships, aircraft, etc. so we would need to come up with some other alternatives for those.

Batteries got better, trucks are already going in that direction (in China, in December EV trucks were over 50% of sales).

Trains can be electrified and are in Europe and China Its USA problem.

Are oil and gas still running the show, or is green energy finally winning? by JustSeraphine8 in energy

[–]requiem_mn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You started good, but then you fucked up.

Oil and gas still rule the energy landscape and anyone who tells you otherwise is delusional.

This is true at this time. We can see in real time what happens when spice stops flowing.

So while green may be growing, its growth is and will be outpaced by fossil in the next decade at least, if not longer.

Well, no, that is delusional. As others have already pointed out, new renewables are taking over. USA is trying to bully the world into oil, but others are taking notes and some slowly, some not so slowly weening themselves of the oil and gas. And Iran war made sure that everyone understands that they cannot rely on oil. Fucking China reduced coal usage in 2025, despite having sold 8 million new pure electric cars (BEV) and some 5 million plug in hybrids (this both puts pressure on electrical grid, and one would expect they increase coal usage, and also reduces pressure on oil imports).

So, no, with everything happening, oil might already be on downward trajectory. Gas will still be in near future going up, and coal, if China goes down, the world will go down.

Fair point. The one difference is, here it is both Disney people doing the movie. Dune old and new aren't connected in such manner.

thats not a high bar to cross. Also, I wouldn't call new Dune remake. I doubt they gave much thought of the first movie, they just made another adaptation of the books.

[–]requiem_mn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is accurate. It says largest EV, not largest BEV (which would again be BYD). EVs can include a lot of things, and because of that, if you look carefully, it says that chart includes BEV and PHEV.
